The International Centre for Hydropower, Norway (ICH) is an international capacity building center focused on providing the transfer of knowledge through organizing training programmes, workshops, seminars and conferences designed to develop competencies for the energy sector and promote the sustainable development of hydropower resources. The ICH is a non-profit organisation based on institutional membership. The ICH develops and effectuates most of its programs independently, but also in partnership with other companies.
Hydro Lab Pvt. Ltd. is a well-equipped independent hydraulic laboratory, established in 1998 with the objective to assist in the achievement of national development goals by providing an effective base for research and development, training and consultancy services in the field of water resources development in Nepal and internationally.
SEDIMENT SENSITIVE OPERATIONS IN HYDROPOWER SYSTEMSDate: 20 – 27 September 2015, Nepal
The International Centre for Hydropower (ICH), Norway and Hydro Lab Pvt. Ltd., Nepal proudly invite you to a Workshop on Sediment Sensitive Operations in Hydropower Systems in Nepal. This workshop offers you, within the framework of lectures, laboratory demonstrations and field excursions, better insight in the sediment sensitive operation and mitigation of sediment problems in the hydropower systems. Senior professionals involved with sediment management in Run-of-River type projects will share experiences through lectures, field visit and laboratory demonstration. The knowledge gained is expected to be beneficial in the operation of hydropower systems in sediment-carrying rivers.

TIME AND VENUETARGET GROUP ADMISSION CONDITIONS PRELIMINARY PROGRAMME
APPLICATION
The main target group is experienced professionals in hydropower planning, design and operation from the Himalayan Region as well as other regions with similar sediment related problems. Candidates should have a minimum of B. Sc. or BE degree in civil engineering or have an equivalent background in the fundamental engineering aspects of hydropower systems, and have relevant job experience.
The workshop will start on Monday 21 September and end on Saturday 26 September 2015 in Kathmandu, Nepal. Participants are expected to arrive in Kathmandu on Sunday 20 September and will be departed on Sunday 27 September 2015.
The participants will be accommodated at a hotel in Kathmandu for the first few days for lectures and group works. Demonstrations of physical hydraulic models and the relevant laboratory experiments for acquiring practical knowledge on sediment management will be done during the workshop. The laboratory demonstration of physical hydraulic models will take place at Hydro Lab in Kathmandu. The participants will then be transported by coach for technical excursion. During the excursion, the participants will be taken to one of the hydropower plants which is in operation in order to have the opportunity to get familiarized with the sensitivity of sediment to the plant operation.
The workshop is sponsored by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD). There will be a nominal registration fee of USD 200 for participants from developing countries abroad and NPR 15,000 for Nepalese participants. If seats are available, participants from developed countries may also be considered for the workshop by paying a registration fee of USD 1,200. The fees include accommodation, all meals, transportation for field trips, a social Programme and documentation.
The number of workshop participants will be limited to 25. Application deadline is set to 30 June 2015. Candidates are kindly requested to apply with in the deadline through e-mails given below.
