We have attained another important milestone, Base has been recommend-ed for Iso 9001: 2008 Quality certification by QsCert India. the certification will be valid for a period of 3 years. Iso 9001:2008 is the International stan-dard for Quality Management systems (QMS). It is based on eight quality man-agement principles (all fundamental to good business practice). When fully ad-opted, these principles can help improve our organizational performance:

We have been recommended for ts 16949-2009 "Letter of Conformance" from tuV India Ltd.

Iso/ts 16949:2009 is the International Quality Management standard specifically written by the automotive Industry. It is in conjunction with Iso 9001:2008, defines the quality management system requirements for the design and development, produc-tion and, when relevant, installation and service of automotive-related products.

this is a result of the great team efforts from management, the solan team, the sales and the service team who have been a part of the audit preparations, under the esteemed guidance of Mr. a.p sharma, executive director solan plant. there was not a single nCr (non-conformance report) during the audit and also few scope for improvement have been suggested by them.

a special appreciation for the tireless ef-forts of Mr. sandeep Krishna and Mr.Vinod thakur (Mr team) in aligning our systems in accordance to the ts 16949-2009 stan-dard in a very short span.

as you know that Base has selected sap enterprise system as the business transformation tool for solan manufacturing, hosur manu-facturing, head office, and all India sales and service networks. sap is a brand of enterprise resource planning software collection, designed to meet common objectives of a given business sector. It aims is to produce standardized enterprise software solutions where business-to-business integration is commonplace to reduce cost of ownership of the software, improve security, and speed up production, monitoring etc.

We have also formed sap core team called sap foCus teaM.

Our com-pany provides effective and logical promotional scheme solutions to facilitate different promotions offered on our products.

the tsM (territory sales Manager) and rsM were given the responsibility to promote these (BCL-1) schemes, they have done an excellent job and have achieved new heights in sales. one of the star performers of BCL-1 was Mr. harshad Bajaj, tsM ankola, who has achieved 100+ target under BCL-1 scheme.

1. Tell us about yourself. Name and a brief about your fam-ily.My name is harshad Bajaj, born in ankola, Maharastra. I did my Graduation from Lrt College, akola. I live in joint family setup with my retired father, my brother his family, and my wife & daughter. 2. How long have you been associated with Base? What is your position/ department?I am associated with Base for the last 18 months and my desig-nation is t.s.M3. You have recently topped all India in BCL-1 with refer-ence to number of qualifiers? What was your strategy for achieving this sales target?I was confident that by proper planning and execution I will be able to achieve my set targets. I carefully strategized, by moni-toring placement of stocks from distributor at all vacant counters in every tahsil. then I networked with big dealers who are lead-

ing competitor, due to which small dealer also automati-cally associated with us.4. What do you consider the most im-portant skills in sales?

smart working, market topography and careful analysis of all dealers.5. How do you build rapport with the dealers in your region? Good product pricing, best after-sale services, excellent credit facilities for distributors, regular stock monitoring, and quick product delivery will automatically built a good rapport with the dealers.6. Describe a typical day at work. Describe a typical sales call.the basic mantra for typical sale calling is to do permanent Journey Plan (PJP) of all day, and resolve each of the queries very sincerely. 7. What obstacles get in your way at work and what do you do to overcome them?the greatest obstacle comes at the time of service and availabil-ity of stocks on time which lead to panic among all dealers. I took rapid action on each complain and simultaneously did a proper planning for stock.8. Your relationship with the company? 1. The First Batteriesthe first battery was created by alessandro Volta in 1798. the first rechargeable battery has been around since 1859, when french physicist Gaston plante invented the lead acid cell. however, evidence of batteries dates back to over 2000 years ago. In 1938, Wilhelm Konig discovered in Iraq a 5 inch pottery jar containing a copper cylinder encased in an iron rod. this is believed to be an ancient form of battery.

2. rechargeable BatteriesBatteries work due to a chemical reaction inside the battery that causes electrons to flow from the negative to positive terminal of the battery. When all of the chemicals inside the battery have reacted, the battery is spent. When you recharge a battery, you’re essentially reversing the chemi-cal reaction using electrical energy.

3. Battery Energy Usagethe energy used to manufacture rechargeable and single-use batteries is 50 times greater than the electrical energy they produce when been discharged.

4. The Memory Effectthis is an effect that nickel-cadmium (niCad) rechargeable batteries suffer from. If a niCad Battery is recharged before being discharged fully, it ‘forgets’ that it is able to discharge any more energy.

for example, pretend a battery is capable of storing 100 units of energy. You use 40 units, then charge the battery up again to 100 units. In your mind, the battery contains 100 units again, but the memory effect means the battery essentially can only release up to 40 units of energy.

5. No Battery Lasts Foreverall batteries, including rechargeables, eventually die. this is because the chemicals inside the bat-tery degrades over time and with usage.

6. Nickel Cadmium in Batteriesone niCad mobile phone or power tool battery is enough to pollute 600,000 litres of water! that’s equivalent to a third of an Olympic sized swim-ming pool.

Maintenance and periodic check-ups of car battery are very essential as it helps in improving the performance of the battery and thus helps in smooth functioning of your car. You do not need a complete knowhow to keep the battery in the best shape without any kind of dis-turbance. Just follow some simple tips to make sure your battery lasts long and doesn’t make you stand in the middle of the road.

here we will discuss some important tips for improving the performance of your car battery and how you can main-tain it in best possible manner.

Q. How do I know my car battery is failing?ans: there are few signs, which tell you that your car battery is getting old and need a replacement. some useful signs that reflect the low or failing car battery are:• Inappropriate functioning of various electrical devices of the car• Problem in the ignition/starting • Your headlights look dim at idle and then brighten when you rev the engine • Improper cooling in the car cabin

Q. How can I maintain my car battery?ans: proper maintenance of your car battery can increase it’s life and perfor-mance. Just follow some simple but vey useful tips to maintain your car batteries are: a. Clean the dust from your car battery on regular intervals, because it can cause corrosionb. If you find any kind of corrosion in your car battery, use solution of baking soda to wipe it out c. Clean the battery surface or case on regular intervals d. periodically inspect the battery for several types of damages like fluid leaks, shell cracks, etc e. Keep you car battery always fully charged f. Keep battery connectors like the wire clean g. Keep terminals and cables tight to prevent entry of toxins in the battery and also ensure proper flow of electricity h. to lubricate cables of the battery use Vaseline and petroleum jelly on regular intervals i. switch off music system, air-condition-er and lights, when it is in idle condition j. Check the fluid level of the car battery on regular intervals to ensure full fluid level however, we recommend that you take proper caution while following any of the above tips as battery is an acidic and electrical device which may cause injuries if not handled properly.

Q. Why is it important to remove the ground wire first while replacing the battery or cleaning the terminals?ans: Before you start replacing the battery or cleaning the terminal, your first job is to check the type of ground-ing system your car has. If your car has negative ground system and you remove the positive connector first, then it may result in a spark. spark may occur if you use metal tool to remove the positive terminal connector and it touches any metal part of the car. It may also result in battery explosion. therefore it is very vital that you remove the ground wire first.

Q. How excessive heat af-fects battery?ans: excessive heat evaporates water from the electrolyte, which results in oxidizing and weakening of the positive grid of the battery. thus, excessive heat reduces the life of battery.

Q. My car doesn’t start. Is it because the battery needs replacement?ans: In addition to the battery, there may be several other reasons behind this. the best way to know that your car needs new battery is to have your battery tested. You can also judge if your battery needs replacement from some symptoms like a clicking noise coming from the car when you try to turn on the ignition, vehicle not starting at all and/or a sluggish turn over.

Q. do I receive charged batter-ies?ans: Yes, all the batteries you receive are already charged.

Q. Can driving habits cause battery failure?ans: In addition to a weak battery, driving habits is another main reason of battery failure. ac-cording to a manufacturer of luxury cars, low charge and acid stratification is the most com-mon cause of battery failure and the problem is common in large luxury cars, which are offer-ing power-hungry auxiliary options. In Japan, new car owners mostly complain about battery failure. average car in Japan is only driven 13 kms/day (8 miles) and mostly in congested cities. this causes half charged bat-teries and thus sulfation occurs. If you drive your car once or twice a week this may also cause battery failure. some other driving habits that cause battery failure are en-gine shut off, excessive stop, driving with heavy electrical demands (rear window defogger, aC or music system on), excessive idling with heavy electrical demands, etc.

take the challenges and turn them into Opportunities

take the challenge. do these words create motivation or dread when you hear them? there are undoubtedly

some people who love a good challenge, and are always ready to take the bull by the horns, and dive into uncharted waters, but these people are in a minority. Many of us are willing, in theory, to take on a chal-lenge, but when it comes to the reality, we often find any excuse- feasible or not- why we can’t tackle the daunting task that is facing us. It is a common human reaction to avoid the unknown and the difficult; even when the familiar and the easy are stifling us and making us miserable. If you want to achieve growth, fulfillment, and happi-ness in life though, you are going to have to choose to take challenges on a regular basis, rather than choosing to remain stuck in a rut created by fear and a crav-

ing for certainty. In fact, certainty is an illusion. the only thing certain in life is change and un-certainty. refusing to take on challenges does not guarantee security, any more than hiding under the bedcovers does. It simply stops us from learning, growing, and achieving our goals. We have to expect to experience a cer-tain amount of discomfort, or even pain, as we tackle the challenges that offer us the opportunities for fulfillment. Breaking free from self-imposed limitations, un-

satisfactory circumstances, fears, habits, and beliefs is not easy! What is important though, is to recognize the difference between the natural resistance we feel at stepping out of our comfort zones, and pushing our boundaries, and the mes-sage of ‘stop’ from our higher selves (the spiritual part of our beings) when we know intuitively that a certain path is not right for us. It is not necessary, or positive, to take on challenges just for the sake of it. Listen to your heart, and take action in a certain

to achieve instant success in every challenge would be sheer luck. Whatever the situation is that you are facing, there are always more ways that don’t work, than ways that do.

direction when you truly know that it the way your higher self is leading you. If something feels wrong, it probably is, but if something feels right but terrifying, then dig deep within you for courage, and take the challenge. avoiding challenges does not prevent discomfort either. Being trapped and stifled can actually be more painful, and even soul-destroying, than the brief, in-tense pain that can come when we break free from our shackles and break out of our shells. Without the challenge, it is very dif-ficult to learn and grow. We must stretch our wings in order to soar higher. If you keep doing only what comes easily and naturally, you will never develop the skills needed to conquer the more difficult tasks. this doesn’t mean that we need to leap out of the swamps of mediocrity and expect to race straight to the mountain top. one step at a time is the way to reach even the highest peak. In any game of skill, there are vari-ous stages and levels to pass through. as a beginner, if you try skipping straight through to the ultimate challenge level, you will probably fail dismally. You won’t have had the chance to develop the skills you need. the skills and know-how that you attain as you progress, step by step, through the game. In life, one of the keys to success is to be willing to attempt the next stage. don’t be afraid of failing- without failure we cannot learn what doesn’t work. to achieve instant success in every chal-lenge would be sheer luck. Whatever the situation is that you are facing, there are always more ways that don’t work, than ways that do. Be willing to experience some of those ways that don’t work- they will give you valuable insight into meth-ods that are more likely to succeed. By a process of elimination, and with persis-tence and faith, you can find the route to success. the saying goes that it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. We can expand this to under-standing that it is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried. as the saying goes, ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained.’ If you try, there is a possibility that

you will succeed. If you don’t try, your chance of success is zero. even if you don’t succeed, you will undoubtedly have learned something through your attempt. and it is never too late to try again! Whatever it is that you dream of in your life, look for ways to begin mak-ing your dreams come true. When you find an opportunity, no matter how big or small, or how scary, summon every ounce of courage you can, and dare to try. the only real failure in life is the failure to try, so make a leap of faith whenever you can, and take the chal-lenge!

Three Ways to Turn Chal-lenges into opportunities

1) Liberate yourself – accept responsibility! the first step is to recognize that we are in control. We need to accept responsibility for our responses, and recognize that they as-sert a powerful influence on our life. how many times have you heard someone say, “that’s just how I am, I can’t help it.” until we accept responsibility we won’t have any reason to change. accepting responsibility is a wonder-fully liberating experience. It puts us in the driver’s seat of our own life. that means that we are in control, and we can change direction anytime we want to. It is one of the most empowering things you can do for yourself. some people shy away from respon-sibility because it brings with it account-ability. When we give away accountability we create a state of helplessness. so, liberate yourself – accept responsibility.

2) Use leverage! Leverage means that you exert the greatest amount of control with the least amount of effort. the time to do this is during the first few moments when you are faced with a new challenge. once you start down a negative road, it is much more difficult to reverse your course. If you control your first step, you start out in the right direction, and it is much

easier to maintain that direction. this is true in all aspects of our lives. If you for instance ice-creams and you’re trying to exercise control over your cravings, where is the best place to do that? If you said, “at the store,” then you are absolutely right. If you don’t bring the ice-cream home, you won’t be tempted to eat them. If you don’t take them off the shelf and put them in your cart, you won’t be tempted to buy them. so, the simple act of leaving them on the shelf gives you the greatest leverage for controlling your cravings. In the same way, weighing a situa-tion before we respond to it gives us the greatest leverage in determining the outcome. In other words, leave the nega-tive response on the shelf.

3) Turn it into a game. When we take life too seriously, it’s easy to overreact to situations. Why not turn it into a game instead? If you tend to react negatively to challenges, try imitating somebody who always reacts positively. Make a game out of it, put yourself in character, play the role until you estab-lish a new response pattern. role-playing makes it much easier to break ingrained habits then trying to tackle them head-on. It also makes the whole process more fun. You might feel self-conscious imitating somebody else, but trust me, no one will notice. What they will notice is how you respond posi-tively to challenging situations. In return, they will respond to you in a positive way, and everybody feels better.

Ingredients• 100ml sunflower oil, plus extra for pan• Half cup caster sugar• 2 cups plain flour/ maida• 3 tbsp cocoa• 3 tsp baking powder• 2 large eggs• 1 tsp vanilla essence• chocolate sprinkles, to serve

For the chocolate icing • 100g dark chocolate, broken into pieces• 5 tbsp double cream

Method1.Grease a cake pan/ baking dish with a little oil and place a circle of baking paper/ or sprinkle dry flour in the bottom.

2. Mix sugar, flour, cocoa and baking powder in a bowl. In a jug, whisk the oil, eggs, vanilla and 100ml hot water until combined.

3. Add liquid ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix thor-oughly until you have a lump-free batter. pour mixture into the cake pan and gently tap to pop any air bubbles.

4. Microwave on full power (800 watts) for 7 mins. remove and check if the cake is cooked by poking a skewer into the middle: if it comes out clean it is ready. allow cake to stand for 5 mins, and turn out onto a cooling rack.

5. for the icing, melt the chocolate on half power (600 watts) for approximately 2 mins, stirring every 30 seconds until melted. add the cream and mix thoroughly until smooth and glossy.

6. once the cake is cool, spread over the icing and scatter with the sprinkles. the cake will keep for up to 3 days in an airtight container.

Ingredients: rolls: • 250 gms flour (Maida) • 1 Egg • Little Salt • Water to make batter

Filling:• 1/4cup Carrots (Grated) • 1/2 tsp Ginger (Minced) • 1/2 tsp Garlic (Minced) • 100 gms Cabbage (Shredded)• 1/4cup onion (Shredded) • 50gms Mushrooms (Chopped) • 3 Green Chilies (Chopped) • Salt to taste • 2 tbsp Soya Sauce • 1/2 tbsp White Pepper Powder

How to make spring roll:1. sift the flour and add salt, egg and water and make a smooth batter.2. heat little oil in a flat non-stick pan and add enough batter so that it covers the base of the pan.3. Cook both sides of the pancake till golden. repeat the same till whole batter is utilized.4. to make the filling heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a wok, add ginger,garlic and mushrooms, stir fry for 10-15 seconds.5. add onions, carrots, cabbage and cook tossing the vegetables until they are crisp-tender.6. add salt, pepper and soya sauce, cook stirring for 2 minutes. set aside the filling to cool.7. to make the spring rolls place 2-3 tbsp. of the filling in the center of each pancake.8. fold in the sides and form a tight roll, sealing the edge with a little flour and water paste.9. deep fry in hot oil until golden.10. serve the vegetarian spring roll hot.
