HOTEL NEWS

InterContinental Manila, the longest operating international chain hotel in the Philippines,

is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year having officially opened its doors to the global

community on April 11, 1969. To commemorate the event, the hotel held several activities

aimed to reward guests and members of the InterContinental community.

The 45th-year anniversary celebration of InterContinental Manila commenced with an

exhibition showcasing entries taken by select participants of the 45th Anniversary Photo

Contest where they were allowed to take photos of hotel rooms, restaurants, and other

hotel facilities. The exhibit also featured archived photographs showing the hotel’s construc-

tion phase in 1968, hotel inauguration, the opening team of the hotel and rare photographs

of the original design of guestrooms and outlets.

As part of its anniversary campaign, InterContinental Manila hosted a series of activi-

ties with the theme “45 years, 45 blessings”. The roster of activities included random

acts of kindness such as Free Ice Cream treats for hotel guests and passers-by, FREE

Stored Value MRT cards at the Ayala Station, free parking tickets at Glorietta Parking, free

snacks to taxi drivers, and free fresh bananas and water to runners at Ayala Triangle

Gardens.

Since its opening, InterContinental Manila has been known for its legacy of unparalleled

service, a landmark hotel that mirrors Filipino hospitality, history, and world class service.

Aptly called the “Grand Dame of Makati”, the hotel has been a frontrunner of

numerous accolades and awards from the past to present, including TTG Travel Awards

as the Best City Hotel in Manila for 2012, World Travel Awards’ Philippine Leading Hotel

for 2013, and as honorary awardee during the 2013 Mabuhay Awards for being the sole

surviving pioneer member of AHRM since its establishment in 1974.

While activities for the 45th anniversary have already been concluded,

InterContinental Manila continues to celebrate it solid reputation for fine service and

memorable InterContinental experience, 45 years and beyond.

INSIDER GUIDE

PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAYJUNE 12

One of the most significant achievements in the Philippine’s history is Independence

Day on June 12, 1898 as it marks the end of the Spanish rule which lasted for more

than 300 years. The proclamation was held at the balcony of General Emilio Aguinaldo’s

residence in Kawit, Cavite where thousands of people are in attendance to witness

the formal unfurling of the Philippine flag and the first public orchestration of the

national anthem.

June 12 was a declared national holiday in the Philippines.

Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival is celebrated in commemoration of the feast day of Sto.

Nino, the infant image of Christ.

Street pageantry and native folk dances of locals from Leyte and Samar sporting

artistic costumes or unique body tattoos are the main attraction for tourists flocking

Tacloban at this time of the year.
