Instrumental jazz groups to perform

Summary: UMM's renowned student instrumental jazz groups will perform during two public concerts on Friday andSaturday, Oct. 10-11. Each evening’s performance, under the direction of Dr. James “Doc” Carlson, will begin at 7:30p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.

(September 30, 2008)-The renowned student instrumental jazz groups at the University of Minnesota, Morris, willperform during two public concerts on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 10-11. Each evening’s performance, under thedirection of Dr. James “Doc” Carlson, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Humanities Fine Arts Recital Hall.

Admission for each performance is $4 general and $1 for students and seniors.

Cougar Jazz I and II and Jazz Ensemble I and II will perform both evenings. The following student jazz groups willperform on Friday: Cat and Mouse, Here’s to Jeff W, Benjamin Cook, Science Has Cure, DS al Fine, Rather Well-BredT.Sax and Mariah’s Combo. On Saturday, Minor Mishap, Dixie, Nick Champeau, The Jets, Mariah and Nick,Skapocalypse Now and ABCD will perform.

Concert goers will enjoy jazz classics from Charlie Parker’s “Blues for Alice,” Thelonious Monk’s “Epistrophy,” andBilly Joel’s “The Longest Time” to Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia,” among other selections.
