Energy-saving tips

19

This hood operates in a very efficientand energy-saving manner. Thefollowing will help you to save evenmore energy when using it:

- Ensure that there is sufficientventilation in the kitchen whencooking. If there is insufficient air flowduring extraction mode, the hoodcannot operate efficiently, causingincreased operating noise levels.

- Always cook with the lowest possiblesetting. This produces fewer cookingvapors so that you can use a lowerhood power level and thereforebenefit from reduced energyconsumption.

- Check the power level selected onthe hood. A lower power level isgenerally sufficient for the majority ofcooking. Only use the booster levelwhen necessary.

- When a large volume of cookingvapors are being produced, switch toa high power level in good time. Thisis more efficient than operating thehood for longer to try to capturecooking vapors that have alreadybeen distributed throughout thekitchen.

- Make sure that you switch off thehood after use.

- Clean or change the filters at regularintervals. Heavily soiled filters reduceperformance, increase the risk of fireand are unhygienic.

Cleaning and care

20

Before proceeding with anymaintenance or cleaning task, theventilation hood must bedisconnected from the power supply, see “IMPORTANT SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS”.

Stainless steel housing

General information

Unsuitable cleaning agents candamage the surfaces and controlelements.Do not use any cleaning agentscontaining soda, acid, chloride, orsolvent.Do not use any abrasive cleaningagents, e.g., powder cleaners orcream cleaners and abrasivesponges, as well as pot scourers orsponges which have been usedpreviously with abrasive cleaningagents

Moisture in the ventilation hoodcan cause damage.Make sure that water does not getinto the ventilation hood.

Clean all surfaces and control buttonsusing a small amount of warm waterand liquid dish soap. Apply with asponge cloth.

After cleaning, wipe the surfaces dryusing a soft cloth.

Important information for applianceswith stainless steel surfaces

The surface of the control elementscan become damaged if they arecleaned using stainless steelcleaning agents.Do not use stainless steel cleaningagents on the control elements.

Cleaning and care

21

Grease filter

Risk of fireAn oversaturated grease filter is a firehazard.Clean the grease filter at regularintervals.

The re-usable metal grease filter in theappliance removes solid particles fromthe kitchen vapors (grease, dust, etc.),preventing soiling of the ventilationhood.

The grease filter must be cleaned atregular intervals.

A heavily soiled grease filter hindersair extraction and will lead toincreased levels of soiling in theventilation hood and in the kitchen.

Cleaning intervals

Accumulated grease solidifies over alonger period of time and makescleaning more difficult. The grease filtershould therefore be cleaned at leastevery 3 to 4 weeks.

Removing the grease filters

When handling the grease filter,be careful not to drop it.This can result in damage to the filterand the cooktop below.Make sure you hold the filter securelyat all times when handling it.

When removing the grease filter, donot tilt it downwards at an angle. This can damage the retaining pins.

With the fume deflector pushed in,grip the front of the fume deflectorand hold the grease filter securely. While holding the grease filter, pullthe fume deflector out as shown.

Then pull the filter downwards toremove it.

Turn off the blower.

Cleaning and care

22

Cleaning the grease filter by hand

Clean the filters with a soft nylonbrush in a mild solution of hot waterand dish soap. Do not use undiluteddish soap.

Unsuitable cleaning agents

Unsuitable cleaners can cause damageto the filter surfaces if used regularly.Do not use any of the following:

- Lime removers

- Abrasive powders or abrasive liquids

- Aggressive all-purpose cleaners anddegreaser sprays

- Oven sprays

Cleaning the grease filter in adishwasher

Place the grease filter upright orslightly inclined in the lower basket.Ensure the spray arm is notobstructed.

Use a commonly available householddishwashing detergent.

In a Miele dishwasher use the“Normal” program.

Depending on the detergent used, cleaning the filter in a dishwasher maycause the inside filter surfaces tobecome discolored. However, this willnot affect the functioning of the greasefilter in any way.

After cleaning

After cleaning, leave the filters on anabsorbent surface to dry.

When removing the filter for cleaning, also clean off any residues of oil or fatfrom the now accessible casing toprevent the risk of these catching fire.

Installing the grease filter

When installing the grease filter, makesure that the red plastic guides are atthe front and facing upwards.

Place the grease filter in the front ofthe fume deflector, press it upwardsand push it in together with the fumedeflector. It will slide onto theretaining pins at the back. Finally, push the grease filter back a littlemore.

Cleaning and care

23

Grounding Instructions

WARNING - Improper grounding canresult in a risk of electric shock.

This appliance must be grounded. Inthe event of an electrical short circuit, grounding reduces the risk of electricshock by providing a path of leastresistance. This appliance is equippedwith a cord having a grounding wirewith a grounding plug.

If there is any doubt, have the electricalsystem of the house checked by aqualified electrician.

Do not use an extension cord. If thepower supply cord is too short, have aqualified electrician install an outlet nearthe appliance.

The plug must be plugged into anoutlet that is properly installed andgrounded.

WARNING - Grounding instructions(Canada)The grounding-type attachment plugshall be connected to a grounding-type receptacle installed inaccordance with CSA C22.1-12,Canadian Electrical Code, Part I.

Air venting

WARNING: Danger of toxic fumes.Gas cooking appliances releasecarbon monoxide that can beharmful or fatal if inhaled. To reduce the risk of fire and toproperly exhaust air, the exhaustgases extracted by the hood shouldbe vented outside of the buildingonly.Do not vent exhaust air into spaceswithin walls or ceilings or in attics, crawl spaces or garages. To reduce the risk of fire, only usemetal ductwork. Please read and follow the“IMPORTANT SAFETYINSTRUCTIONS” to reduce the riskof personal injury. Follow all localbuilding codes when installing thehood.

Only use smooth pipes or flexibleducting made from approved non-flammable materials for ducting.

To achieve the most efficient airthroughput with the lowest noise levels, please note the following:

- The diameter of the vent ductingmust not be smaller than the cross-section of the vent collar (see“Appliance dimensions”). This appliesin particular when using flat ducting.

- The ducting should be as short andstraight as possible.

- Only use wide radius bends.

- The ducting must not be kinked orcompressed.

Installation

*INSTALLATION*

42

- All connections must be strong andairtight.

- If the ducting has flaps, these mustbe opened whenever the ventilationhood is switched on.

Any constriction of the air throughputwill reduce extraction performanceand increase operating noise.

Ventilation stack

If the exhaust air is to be ducted into aflue, the ducting must be directed in theflow direction of the flue.

If the flue is used by several ventilationunits, the cross-section of the flue mustbe large enough.

Non-return flap

Use a non-return flap in the ventsystem.

If the exhaust is ducted through anoutside wall, a Miele wall vent or roofvent (available as an optionalaccessory) is recommended. Both ofthese have a built-in non-return flap.

If the on-site vent system does not havea non-return flap, you can purchase oneas an optional accessory.

Condensate

If the ducting is to run through coolrooms or ceiling space, for example, thesignificant variations in temperaturebetween the different areas can causecondensate to form. Insulate theducting to reduce temperaturevariations.

If the ducting is to be laid horizontally, itmust be laid with a downwards slopinggradient of at least ³/₈" (1 cm) per meter. This is to ensure that condensatecannot drain back into the ventilationhood.

In addition to insulating the ducting, it isadvisable to also install a condensatetrap for collecting and evaporating anypotential condensate.

Condensate traps for 5" (125 mm) or6" (150 mm) diameter ducting areavailable as optional accessories.

When installing a condensate trap, ensure that it is positioned verticallyand as closely as possible to the

ventilation hood above the exhaustvent. The arrow on the casing indicatesthe direction of airflow.

Miele will not accept warranty claimsfor any functional defects or damagecaused by inadequate ducting.

Reducing Collar

(optional accessory)

If you would like to reduce theenvironmental impact of your ventilationsystem by limiting the CFM output theReducing Collar can be installed. Itreduces the air flow to less than400 CFM. Check local building codesfor max. CFM requirements.

Push the Reducing Collar on theexhaust port of the blower.

Push the exhaust hose over it.

Secure both with a hose clamp.
