select the correct topics for the systembeing constructed.

• A II couplers, connectors and \vires arecolor coded. You may find it easier thanyou think to assemble the cassette andcomponents.

• Careful handling of the preCISion Hi-Ficomponents is important.As a rule of thumb you should handletheir cables and wires with greatest care.Remember that rough handling can leadto broken insulation and a host of other

malfunctions.

2) Remove the left fairing pocket and con­trol box cover. Discard the switch and

switch cover.

3) Remove the seat and shelter.

NOTE : To remove the shelter, it IS

necessary to remove the inner coverby lifting its end up by hand.

1) Remove the right and left side covers.Disconnect battery negative cab Ie fromthe battery negative terminal.

INSTALLATION

4) Remove the right and left rear viewmirrors.

-1 Slide the boots off the mirror stays.

-2 Rotate the mirrors as shown, andremove the two mount bolts fromeach. To gain access to the mountbo Its, it is necessary to invert theboots.

NOTE: Do not let the mirrors fall.

NOTE: Use added care when removingthe windshield garnish to avoiddistorting "it. To remove, push it upalong the contour of the windshieldby applying equal force on both sides.

Remove the head light.

-1 Screw off the mount bolts and pullthe headlight out. Disconnect thewire harness connectors inside theheadlight case.

7) Remove the windshield.

-1 Remove the fou~ bolts and removethe windshield and retaining plate.

NOTE: Do not let the windshieldfall.

Remove the right and left blind grillsby pulling them out by hand.

-2 Remove the four 6 x 20 mm screws/washers.

NOT E: 0 iscard the four cl ip nuts.

9) Remove the instrument cluster.

-1 Remove the four nuts from thecl uster studs; si ide the cl uster back­ward.

NOTE: Use caution when sliding thecluster back not to force the wireharness from the cluster into thefairing.

-2 Route the 4-P white coupler (stored inthe fairing behind the meters) throughthe hole, along the meter harness, tothe clock mount.

10) Remove and discard the instrumentcluster holder. I nstall the radio mountingbracket in place of the cluster holder.

1 Slide the cap © onto tab of the radiomou nting bracket.

2 Remove the instrument cluster holderand install the radio mountingbracket.

11) Reinstall the instrument cluster on thefairing.

cluster, check that all harness wiresare routed and pulled out through thefairing opening as shown.

3) Store the end of the taped wires (largestbunddle of vvires} of the audio harnessin the fairing at the location shown inF ;g. 19.

NOTE: Do not insert the other harnesswires with the taped wires.

15) I nstall the power amplifier.

-1 Remove the two seals from theamplifier mount stud holes of thefairing.

-2 Position the amplifier in place in thefairing pocket and install using a5 mm nut and washer (19) on eachstud. Tighten the nuts securely.

={emove the four tapping screws attachinghe coupler bracket; slide the bracketaward the center.

17) Route the antenna feeder into the fairing.

-1 Remove the grommet from thecoupler holder, and route the end ofthe feeder through the large hole inthe holder, then trough the smallhole, into the fairing.Reinstall the grommet.

NOTE: Route the feeder over themain amplifier and secure with thewire clamp as shown.

18) Install the auto volume control unit.

-1 Position the bracket on the con-trol unit ® and install using a 5 mmflange nut Tighten the nutsecurely.

-2 Install the control unit on thecover using the hardware shown inFig. 24.NOTE: Install the plain washers with

ra ised ends facing out.-3 Connect the audio harness 0 f N

connector (red banded, Fig. 22) to theauto volume control unit 0 I Nconnector (red banded, Fig. 24).

-4 Connect the audio harness 0 INconnector (blue banded, Fig. 18} tothe auto volume control unit DlNconnector (blue banded, Fig. 24).

-5 Connect the fairing harness white/black coupler to the auto volumecontrol unit white/black coupler.

-6 Position the cover (see Step-2) on thefairing and install using the 5 x 22 mmscrews retained in Step 2. Tighten thescrews securely.

-7 Press the caps into the recesses ofthe socket bolt heads.

19) Install the clock~l and lock 'lJ on themeter visor.

Remove the blind covers from themeter visor by pulling them out byhand.

NOTE: Discard the blind cover forthe clock. Retain the blind coverfor the radio as it is used as a coverwhen the rad io is removed.

-2 Remove the' nut from the clock (~)

-3 Position the clock !~; and lock (l~ onthe visor and install using the bracketand nut removved in Step-2.

20) Install the seapkers @ and meter visor onthe fairing.

-1 Slide the four clip nuts @ onto theedge of each speaker mount openingof the fairing as shown.

-2 Install the seapkers using the hardwareshown in Fig. 27.

NOTE:• Insta II the spacers @ with the

sponge ends on the fairing side, andthe thick sides of the screw surfacesfacing out.

• Connect the clock a nd speakerharness wires noting the sizes ofthe speaker wire terminals.

• Align the locating tabs on themeter visor with the holes in theradio mount bracket.

• Install the speakers with the drainholes facing up and down as shown.

21) Install the radio switch and connect theswitch wires to the wire harness.

-1 Drill a 1.5 mm hole through the turnsignal switch at the location shown(center), and install the turn signalswitch using a tapping screw @,and spacer ® .NOTE: When installing the switch

® on the turn signal switch, alignthe locating tabs on the spacerwith the holes in the signal switch.A total of four holes is provided toallow for adjustment of switchangle.On some models, only tow holesare provided on the right side. Toinstall the radio switch ® , it isnecessary to break off the left tabon the spacer ® .

-2 Route the switch harness wires asshown in Fig. 29 and 30.

Attach the wires with the wire bandswith the handlebar turned extremeright or left, so they are not pulledtaught when the handlebar is rotated.

Position the antenna assembly on thetravel trunk stay as shown in Fig. 33.

NOTE:Discard the grommet which isremoved from the motorcycle.

• To ease installation, it is recom­mended to remove the travel trunk.

23) Connect the antenna feeder to the wireharness.

-1 A ttach the feeder connector (F ig. 25)to the frame using a wire band @positioned where shown.

-2 Connect the feeder @ to the wireharness as shown.

24) Check operation of each compoents asfollows:

-, Check that the wire harnesses andcables' are routed properly and are notpinched, twisted or pulled taut in allsteering positions.

·2 Check that the radio is secure in itsmount, and that it can be removedand installed easily with the key.

-3 Connect the battery negative cabie tothe battery negative terminal.

-4 With the ignition switch in the ACeposition, turn on the radio switch.Check the radio and cassette deck forproper operation.

-5 Recheck the harness and cable rout­ings if there is any abnormality.

25) Check all bolts, nuts, screws and otherfasteners for security. Retighten ifnecessary.

26) Install the headlight.

-, Refer to Step 6 and Fig. 14.

NOTE: Check that the headlightaiming gears are engaged properly.

27) Install the windshield and windshieldgarnish.

28) Install the left fairing pocket.

NOTE: Re-arrange and secure the har­nesses with the harness clamp on themain amplifier, if difficulty is en­countered in installing the pocket Inthe fairing.

29) Install the shelter, seat and side covers.

30) Install the inner cover.

NOTE:

Follow all safety nots and precautionsdescribed in the owner's manual andcaution label on the back of the case.

-1 Arrange the excess of the two 0 INconnector cords (connected to theterminal component @ on top of thepower amplifier (1 and secure withthe wire clamp.

HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

• Use only the handlebar switches whileriding.

• Before riding l make sure that the radio islocked in its mount securely.

• The radio l transceiver and cassette areprecision equipment. When washing themotorcycle l use extreme care not toallow water to enter the equipment ortheir mounts.

• Follow all safety and other notes andprecautions described in the owner'smanuals.

• Do not bring a magnet or metal parts ortools such as screwdrivers and wrenchesclose to the cassette deck heads or tapes.

• Remove the tape cassette from the deckand store in a safe place when the motor­cycle is to be left standing for a longperiod of time.
