Quilt Retreat took place last

week. It was held at Camp

Harmony. Thank you to

everyone that attended and

helped make it a huge suc-

cess. We all have memories

that we’ll cherish for weeks

to come. There were many

completed projects, lots of

great food, and loads of fun.

Plans are already in the

works for next year.

Check out the Classes and

Events sections and mark

your calendars for the next

few months. They’ll fly by,

just like Summer did!

When the rain finally quit at the be-

ginning of July, summer seemed to

just fly by! Somehow I’ve missed the

“dog daze” and canning season and

berry picking. When I was young my

“elders” always said the older you get

the faster time flies. I’m beginning to

understand that all too well. I hope

your summer has been rewarding and

you’ve seen it come to a close with

health and blessings. In the end, isn’t

that what really matters?

Diane and I had the opportunity to

attend Moda’s annual Open House in

August. Visiting Dallas, Texas at 99°

is an experience in itself. But the

What a Whirlwind Summer! Moda Warehouse was cool and

huge! We navigated through the

many isles of

fabric racks with

large carts.

Moda’s owner,

Mark Dunn,

joined the atten-

dees for a Texas

dinner in the

evening. He is

very personable

and has a great

passion for the

quilting indus-

try. He’s pictured here in the

purple tie.

This year’s Summer Get Away

The Fabric Rack

Holly Taylor is one of Moda’s

most popular designers. She

has teamed up

with Doug Leko

from Antler Quilt

Deigns and cre-

ated another hit

called Winter’s

Song. Most of you

remember last

year’s sensation, Through the

Winter Woods. Well, Winter’s

Song has just as many pat-

terns and coordinates. You’ll

love it!

Quilting Treasures has re-

leased several panels for

Christmas

this year—

Jolly Old

St. Nick,

Rejoice,

Christmas

Bell, and

Rejoice. They each have co-

ordinating fabrics and free

download patterns. QT is

also well know for their out-

doorsy designs. Bear Coun-

try is

just

what

the

man

cave ordered. There are kits

available, as is the case for

most every sample on dis-

play.

Northcott’s Christmas re-

lease this year is Reindeer

Prance. As with

the previous

years (tree &

wreath) we are

featuring the

blue color way.

Doesn’t every

little girl dream

of princesses, ponies, and

magic castles?

With the help of

a panel you still

have time to

make her dreams

come true. Little

Princess with its

coordinates will

make a quick project for that

special little girl.

Are there any folk art fans in

the crowd? Red Rooster

had you in mind

when they de-

signed Christ-

mas Whimsy.

There’s a free

pattern that

incorporates the panel blocks

with pine-

apple fram-

ing. Gotta

see it!

Need some fresh inspiration?

There’s no lack of projects in these

great new books that have been

released in the quilting world. Are

you one of “those” quilters that

love precuts like charm squares,

jelly rolls, and bundles but don’t

have a clue what on earth to do

with them? I know many of you

just like to look at them, but really,

wouldn’t it be better to admire

them in a quilting project? Any

one of these new books can help

you get your creative juices flow-

ing. Stop in and take a look.

Shannon Fabrics is the industry

leader for that soft “cuddle cloth”

so many children fall in love with.

Their latest kit is Ella-Nor. It’s an

adorable appliquéd elephant in

gray and

yellow.

The size

is 52”

square,

just

right for

wrapping, dragging, and cud-

dling!

Patrick Lose is well know in

the quilting industry for his

unique appliqué designs. His

Snow Day kit will tempt all

you snowman lovers. It’s a

table runner that can be used

all winter long. And as we all

know, win-

ter can be

long in our

area!

Another kit that’s been added

to the

woolfelt

series we

carry is

Frosty &

Friend. It

joins Owl

Family,

Spotty Hen, and Ham & Eggs.

If you’re a hand sewer or a

hand quilter and don’t like

wearing a thimble, you’ll love

Poke-A-Dots. They’re em-

bossed rubber dots with adhe-

sive on the back. Stick one on

the finger you

use to push the

needle through

your project.

You’ll love ‘em!
