***Have you heard your child read today? We encourage all students to
practise their reading at home about 5 nights per week. Therefore, by now,
most students should have read at least between 35-40 nights. Well done if
you have kept up!
***We can all work together to
rid the community of any chance
of Head Lice. Let’s check our
heads once per week!***

Happy Birthday to Lily
Tippett, Logan Malik and
Jacob Herring who are all
having their birthdays this
week. On behalf of the
Puckapunyal Primary School
Community, we wish them all
a very Happy Birthday!
Easter Raffle fundraiser: What a
wonderfully generous community we
have; donating prizes and purchasing/
selling tickets! This is one of our
major fundraisers and we appreciate
your support. Keep them coming!!
Sports for Schools: We have 14,990 vouchers! This
promotion finishes early in April, so make sure we
have all your vouchers. Thanks so much!!
Healthy lunch tip: Veggies! Experts tell us that we
should be eating two pieces of fruit and five serves of
veggies daily. This can be challenging, but eating
some of those serves at lunchtime and throughout the
day certainly makes this easier. Here are a few
suggestions.
Raw vegetables, including bean sprouts, beans,
broccoli, carrots, cauliflower, celery, mushrooms,
snow peas, tomatoes etc. Perhaps have your child try
cucumber – it is amazing how many children love this.
Salads: using leftover rice or pasta, boiled egg, canned
corn and your choice of vegetables. Use whatever
flavourings your child enjoys (a little soy sauce,
mayonnaise, nacho sauce, even BBQ or tomato sauce).
Vegetables are also great in or with dips, and can be
included in cakes, muffins and scones.
Have a terrific week!
Sue Ranger, DSTA.
POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR REWARD UPDATE
Keep up the positive behaviour everyone!! We
will have a term 1 house winner next week! CURRENT SCORES Bradman - 596 points
Melba - 556 points

**REMINDER- Pucka News is a growing interest in the school and our community. You can
see each episode live at our school assemblies at 9am on Monday mornings. Everyone is
encouraged to come along and watch each episode. If you are unable to attend, you can follow
Pucka News by watching each episode on our Facebook page. **
Our Year 6 Jackets and School Shirts have
arrived!
The students are very excited now that they can
wear their special jackets and shirts for 2018!
Our school captains, Harry Fletcher and Abbey
Kendell make great uniform models!
Thursday 29th March is the last day of the term. All
students will be dismissed from school at 1:30 p.m. The
students will only require a morning play lunch as they can
have their lunch once they are home that day. We will
finish off the term with a 1:10 p.m. assembly which all
parents are invited to attend. We have some awards to hand
out, some presentations and some performances for
assembly. Please come along.
It will be an Out of Uniform Day on this day as it always
is on the last day of term.
There will not be any afternoon school buses available
for our children on the last day of term. Good luck to all
students and their families during the term break!
* The first day of Term 2 is Monday 16th
April, 2018.*
Ride2School and school breakfast!: THIS
Friday (23rd March) is National Ride2School day.
If you can, come to school in an active manner;
walking or cycling. If you live “off base”, perhaps
see if you can be dropped off a couple of blocks
from the school for some early morning exercise.
Then at 8.30am, enjoy eggs on toast cooked by our
chef, Mr. Warne. Please contact the office if you
have any allergy concerns and we can work
together to provide an alternative. Then to finish
off, at 9am all families are invited to join us for a
walk around the school.

The School Canteen is open for Lunch Orders this

different each week. Please ensure that a paper bag
comes with the order. Please indicate on the lunch bag
if the money is in another sibling’s bag
This week the menu is - Ham & Pineapple Pizza - $2.50 each
250ml Chocolate or Strawberry milk - $2
Apple/Orange Juice Popper - $1.50
No charge for tomato sauce
At assembly this week Caring was announced as our School Value of the week. That means teachers are
looking for students who are demonstrating ‘Caring’ to be eligible for the Student of the Week award.
We encourage parents to talk to their students about our values throughout the year.
What is Caring? Year 5 student, Blake Cooper read out the meaning of Caring. Well done, Blake!
‘Caring is paying attention to the things that matter to you. You can care for yourself, for other people, for pets or
for special things. When you care for something you treat it with respect and concern.’
***Reminder – the SCHOOL BUS STOP is not
a car park or a drop off zone. Please do not park
there. Let’s keep everyone safe!***
Did you hear Zara
Marini read her opinion
piece about ‘Why I like
Vegemite and Butter’ at
assembly this week? We
did! She was amazing!
Come along and see who
reads next week.
Every Day Counts!
Please don’t forget – going
to school every day is the
single most important part of
your child’s education.
Students learn new things at
school every day. Missing
school puts them behind. We
all want our students to get a
great education. The building
blocks for a great education
begin with students coming
to school each and every
day.
Each week at assembly, SRC representatives remind
our students of a few important school rules. This
week, SRC representatives, Rohanna Murphy,
Jonathan Duna and Yarah Tennant-Andrew
reminded our students of a few rules to follow when
you see the chickens in the school yard:
- Do not chase them
- Do not pick them up
- Do not throw things at them
- Make sure you cover your food if it is outside
as they are very cheeky and will eat it
Please discuss these rules with your children to help
ensure that they understand.
Rory Kennedy and Ned
Kendell again, would like to
strongly remind us about saving
those Coles ‘Sports for Schools’
dockets!
Thank you to the parents who attended the Family
Chat Group after assembly on Monday. It gave
parents and staff the opportunity to talk openly about
many direct and indirect community topics.

Each week in the newsletter, we will give families a summary of the Teaching/Learning Focus for the week.
That can help families by: being aware of what classrooms are covering; with discussion topics at the dinner table when
discussing school (eg. ‘How are you going with addition in Numeracy this week?’); helping their children study at home,
etc. Parents have indicated that this information would be very useful. We also ask families to be aware that schools are
very busy places and events can be unpredictable at times. We therefore must remain flexible. That means, we can plan to
cover certain topics at particular times and have to change them according to arising needs.
Junior School – Preps/Foundation Rooms 6, 8 & 10 Literacy: We are looking at the letters ‘e and b’. We are learning the difference between a letter and a word. We are also
looking at capital letters and full stops.
Numeracy: We are learning about the numbers 7 and 8. We are looking at 2D shapes.
Junior School – Year 1s Rooms 3, 4 & 10 Literacy: .We are revising the letters e and b. We are looking at recounts and nouns.
Numeracy: We are continuing to look at simple addition and learning how to tally.
Junior School – Year 2s Rooms 3, 4 & 9 Literacy: We are revising the letters ‘e and b’. We are focusing on common and proper nouns. We are continuing to work
on persuasive writing.
Numeracy: We are working on addition and subtraction skills. We are continuing to practise skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and
10’s and learning how to tally.
Middle School Years 3/4 Rooms 9, 11, 12 & 13 Literacy: Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on persuasive writing and the VCOP components.
Numeracy: We will also be working on the four processes, as well as chance data in Numeracy.
Senior School Years 5/6 Rooms 1&2 Literacy: Over the next two weeks we will be focusing on persuasive writing and the VCOP components.
Numeracy: We will also be working on the four processes and fractions, as well as chance and probability in Numeracy.
Anzac Day is on Wednesday the 25th of April
(during 2nd week of Term 2). We hope that all families
enjoy the day. On Tuesday 24th April, at a special 9am
morning assembly, we will have a commemoration to
pay respect to the ANZACs. Some of our senior
students will be conducting the commemoration. There
will also be performances from our school choir. We
encourage students to bring wreaths to school and any
child in cubs, scouts, guides, etc, can wear their
uniforms for the commemoration. All parents are
welcome to attend our commemoration. It will be held
in the school’s PC Centre.
As in previous years, our school choir will also be
attending the dawn service at Memorial Park on
ANZAC Day. We will be performing 2 songs at 5:45
a.m. We would encourage all school community
members to attend the service.
At both ANZAC commemorations, our school captains
will be laying wreaths on behalf of the school.
Ms O’Connor has begun choir rehearsals for the Dawn
Service.
The Years 2-6 students in the choir have been
practising during some lunch eating times.
As with last year, we have again applied for a
Term 2 Sporting Schools Grant from the Federal
Government. If we are successful we will again
have an opportunity for students to participate in
some Before School Sport.
We are looking at offering basketball, cycling and
tennis. Please stay tuned!

I really liked the cooking last Friday. I was the leader of my group, which was Bella, Sam and Lachie O. It was
mostly very fun, but sometimes there were things that were NOT fun, like when I opened the packet and it spilled
all over me. It was some kind of powder that was supposed to be sour cream and chives, but it smelled absolutely
HORRIBLE! I definitely needed to wash my shirt that night. Anyway, I loved the rest of it. It took a while to cut
and peel all of the potatoes, and then mix the gross powder with some milk. It was fun to do all that, and my team
was cooperative. The only really bad thing was getting the powder everywhere. After lunch, we got to taste
everybody’s recipes. I liked the three cheese potato bake the very best, but I liked them all. Just not the eggplant
very much. Overall, cooking on Friday was really, really fun.
Rohanna Murphy 5/6 D
Last Friday (16th of March 2018) our class did a cooking lesson with some potatoes and eggplants that we had
grown in the veggie garden. We all were sorted into groups. We all made something. The people in my group were
Harry E, Jack E, Mackenzy and Aiden G. The things we made were a three cheese potato bake, sour cream and
chives potato bake, a garlic potato wedge and some eggplant. After lunch we ate our food. I wasn’t fond of the
eggplant, but I loved the three cheese potato bake.
