Delegate - Allen D.

Good afternoon Area 92. Thank you again to Adam and District 4 for hosting the Agenda Review in Kennewick on May 1st. It was very informative and especially helpful for me just before leaving for the GSC. I greatly enjoyed getting our entire Area’s feedback on the Agenda items in Winthrop. Although there were a lot of updates this year, I believe we’ve done a fabulous job discussing them fully. Some stand out more than others and I am excited to see what direction they will go “...for the good of A.A. as a whole”!

Last minute planning for the upcoming Conference week has been happening a lot the last couple weeks. Interacting with Pacific Regional Delegate and answering questions from the new Panel 69 Delegates has been interesting and fun.

Last week we held our final Conference call with the GSC Grapevine Committee. On this call we discussed the order in which the Grapevine Agenda Items would be addressed during our meetings at the GSC and whether there was any other background information available to us. We don’t discuss any of any of the items.

I am happy to say I will be entering a couple of our State Correctional facilities to give our friends Behind the Walls their own Delegate’s Report-Back this year. I recently heard that they are as excited as I am about it.

I hope to see a few of you attending this year’s Pacific Northwest Conference in June in Portland OR. Information has been sent out to your District’s DCM.

On a personal note I will be having ankle replacement surgery a couple weeks after our return from New York. It’s a challenging time for this to happen but rest assured that I will still get my scheduled Report-Backs to you as best I can. I am trusting my Higher Power that all will go well, and recovery will be speedy.

Please remember that I will be posting in The Delegates Corner on our Area’s website during Conference week May 19-25. Making the time to get this done every day is very important to me.

“Clear vision for tomorrow comes from only a clear look at yesterday”!

So very Blessed to serve as your Area 92 Delegate, Allen D.

Alt Delegate - Gary P.

Welcome everyone, to Springtime in the Northwest! What a great place to live sober.

If AA’s succeed more by “attraction rather than promotion”, then surely our spring Pre-conference Assembly at the Sun Mountain Lodge set the bar for attractiveness. The setting was stunning, the weather excellent, the participation high, the fellowship palpable, the stamina strong, and the conscience widely expressed. The result -- our Delegate Allen D. parted well-informed to represent Area 92’s collective conscience at the Panel 69 General Service Conference (GSC).

Another “attractive event” I was invited to participate in was District 10’s Spring Fling held at the Senior Center in Ellensburg. It was well attended by the members in District 10 and three AA’s joined me from Wenatchee (District 5). The delightful, multi-hour AA fellowship event included a huge Italian potluck with a ton of desserts; a competitive costume party with the theme of “styles from the 60’s, 70’s, and 80’s” – and yes “tie dyes” were there. The winner was dressed as Cindy Lauper…perfect! There was a Karaoke song fest with lots of good AA talent on display and many participants on the dance floor (yes, I danced). Then everything slowed down for the AA meeting. The Wenatchee contingent enjoyed the day immensely. Thank you, Sharon H., for the invitation. It was a blast.

As noted at the Pre-conference Assembly, the GSR School “ad hoc” Committee is finalizing the materials for a comprehensive yet concise GSR Training program. Information on the program and materials will start being distributed within the next few weeks. Working with our Past Delegates on this effort has been deeply satisfying.

Thank you again for allowing me to be of service. Gary P. Chair – Debbie T.

Greetings from the sunny Yakima Valley! Thanks to all that attended the April Pre-Conference Assembly and hung in there with us – it was a long day, but we were able to discuss important issues and get all the business done! Also, thanks to District 12 for hosting the event. It was very peaceful venue and helped me to reflect and focus on the issues at hand. I am looking forward to attending the Service Workshop hosted by Districts 6 & 20 here in Yakima.

If you or your committee are considering submitting a motion for the July Quarterly, please forward it to me for review. Remember our goal is to attain an informed group conscience on the issues affecting the Area. The more people that have a chance to discuss these issues, the more “informed” our conscience will be. I hope to see you in Yakima on May 18

Hello, Area 92.

It has been a very busy month for me, especially with the sunshine. I am looking forward to going to the workshop in Yakima this month. I am also excited to be a panelist at PNC in June. Dolores sent the financial audit and after considerable discussion, she has changed the wording from audit to “review” on her addendum. The financial team will begin addressing it.

The donations have been very consistent, and I thank all of the districts on behalf of Area 92. Donations for the month of April totaled $5,623.67. Donations are as follows:

Please send all contributions to:

Washington State East Area 92 1314 S. Grand Blvd. Suite 2, Box #103 Spokane, WA 99202-1174

This report includes all monies received including: Birthday, Individual, Group and District Contributions, Seed Monies Returned, Balance of Excess Funds and Reimbursements, and includes all monies received through PayPal.

Hi, Area 92.

Loads of good news for Archives this time. As you may or may not know, the Archives Motion to split the position between an Archivist and an Archives Chair did pass, albeit at a late hour at the Assembly. Maybe now some things that need doing at the Repository will actually start to happen in a timely manner, beginning with our next rotation.

Also 74 of 75 tapes are now digitized. I had a very successful trip to Area 72. I even got

Page 5: Inside this Area 92 Newsletter Editionarea92aa.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/05may_final...2019/05/05  · Back to Basics 100.00 New Beginnings 30.00 DISTRICTS Daily Reprieve 57.09

to sit in on one of their Steering Committee meetings. I was still working on the digitizing, which I figured I’d be done with by the time they arrived for the 10:00 AM meeting, but they began arriving at 9:00. Such an enthusiastic group!

We’re having a work party at the Repository May 10th, so by the time you read this hopefully we will have accomplished a few more things.

In Fellowship, Sarah Corrections - Ben N.

Greetings Area 92 Alcoholics Anonymous!

Thanks to everyone who went through the process of getting cleared and attending the bi-annual Washington State Penitentiary AA Workshop. Much thanks to Linda F. and the WSP staff for their support! Inmates and visitors shared their experience, strength, and hope from the podium. For me, this event was evidence that the AA message of hope is everywhere, regardless of circumstances. It is inspiring to be a part of the “outside” in a meeting with the “inside” sharing a common solution, ”…on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action”. Often, I leave with more hope than I had intended to bring in.

Making the trip to Connell for the Coyote Ridge Outside Speaker Meeting April 22 without my identification, I was unable to attend. Those who did attend reported a full room and a great experience. The Fellowship is well represented at these institutions by our AA facilitators and volunteers. We thank Maggie E. and the CRCC staff for welcoming us.

On the Corrections Bridge front; Lori T. has been steady and is remarkably improving this process with her attention to detail and persistent follow up. Reminder: The bridge form available on the Area 92 website with correct address must be used for this service to be effectively provided!

Corrections Correspondence Service (CCS) is an excellent opportunity for anyone to get involved in service. CCS is also an effective method of informing our friends behind the walls of the Corrections Prerelease Request (Bridge) Form.

Looking forward to the June Standing Committee Workshop….see you there!

Grateful to serve, Ben N. CPC - Rexann H.

Greetings Area 92. Hope the sunshine is finding you well. I will be attending the service workshop in Yakima May 18th. I am looking forward to the Standing Committee Workshop in June in Ellensburg as well. Hope to see you at one of those events.

Grapevine has released another new book called, “Are you my sponsor”? It’s another joke book for the humorous side of us all.

That’s about it for now, thanks for the opportunity to serve our great Area 92.

Love Gary H. Newsletter - Rainey M.

Greetings, everyone. I’ve found a new printer that is more reliable, more accessible and more cost-effective. That’s all for now.

Yours in Service, Rainey Secretary - David R.

Hello, Area 92!

I don’t have much to report this month. The Handbook Committee has been meeting weekly since the end of January 2019 and we are making progress updating the Area 92 Handbook. We meet each week for about 90 minutes. Rad introduced me to some technological advancements that are proving to be very helpful.

The following Trusted Servants are on the Area 92 Handbook Committee: David R., Amy B. Jan R., Stan T., Paula T., Rad M., and Allen D.

I will be attending the annual Service Workshop hosted by Districts 6 and 20 in Yakima next week. I will also be attending PNC in Portland on June 21 and June 22, 2019. And I hope to see many of you in Colville at the July Quarterly!

Yours in service, David R. Treatment/Accessibility - Brian S.

Greetings, Area 92 from the Treatment/Accessibility Committee. We all had a fantastic time at the Sun Mountain Lodge in Winthrop. We also had a good turnout to give Allen the information he needed from all of the Area 92 committees and the rest of the body representing all of Area 92. We worked all day Saturday and Saturday night until midnight. All of us were a little tired and grumpy. With a few serenity prayers, we finished our work and all survived. I wish to thank District 12 for the great venue and all of the work involved in making the Assembly happen.

Thank you all for allowing me to be of service. Hope to see you all in Ellensburg on June 15

Ahoy, Area 92 from District 5! Our District GSR meetings continue to be fun and busy, with delicious coffee always at the ready (thank you Bill F.).

Vern S. and his lovely wife Julie S. put on the 2nd annual Sober de Mayo Pig Roast last weekend at their house as planned and it was awesome! Truly, the word Fellowship can also be a verb on these occasions.

Upcoming events for this month include another fundraising event for Soberfest: a Lawn Carnival. This will take place at the Three Lakes Estates’ Clubhouse, 3053 Sands, in Malaga WA, on May 18th from 11am - 4pm. Hot dogs will be available, and entry is free to this family-friendly event in which you buy tickets to play games & win prizes.

Our own Dinah L. will be telling her story this month at our monthly speaker meeting on 5/18/19, at the Mainstreeters group in the Cornerstone Church located 12 N Chelan Ave in Wenatchee. More news next time!

District 12 - Cindy H.

Happy Spring.

First, let's talk about the April Pre-Conference Assembly; I'm still smiling over it. Thanks to all who volunteered. Everyone I spoke with thanked us for a spectacular venue and fabulous time (minus the late-night business, lol). Sun Mountain Lodge never disappoints, and their staff is so helpful. Angie's, Bill W. Swedish Ivy in teacups, and photos of AA history (with the help of Sharon and Valerie) was a hit. Those taking a plant promised to make starts for everyone in their group and Districts. I'm blessed to be around creative and helpful service people. Our District should be pleased with a job well done.

With the Assembly over, I look forward to doing outreach in our District before my term ends.

At our May District meeting in Wauconda we heard Edd B.’s 50th AA Anniversary

celebrations were great. One was in Omak on a Saturday, and another at his home group in Wauconda with 45 – 50 people in attendance. The good news for Edd is he and his wife found a lovely home close to their daughter in Lubbock, Texas and they’re moving there. For our District, and the Wauconda Group, we are losing someone with a half a century of experience, strength and hope who was a mainstay of that group. He will be missed.

We have only one May birthday reported, our District Treasurer, Thomas N. celebrates four years.

YIS, Cindy H. District 15 – Neat M.

Greetings! So thankful for warmer days and longer daylight hours. I've started visiting some of the meetings I don't get to in the winter. It's always great to see the familiar faces of my recovery family again.

Friday Night Rebels in Colville was one of the meetings I attended when I started my recovery journey. It was held at the recycling center back then. I'll always remember one older gentleman that stated his sobriety in hours, minutes, and seconds. The meeting has changed location a few times over the years but keeps on going. It's now in the educational annex across from the hospital. Come check it out Friday night at 7pm. You'll find a warm welcome and some solid sobriety. A big thanks to all who keep it open, especially Dan, John, Lynn, and Mike!

District 15 is looking forward to seeing you all at the July Quarterly. Early registrations are appreciated. Be sure to reserve your motel room soon to insure availability.

Welcome to Spring everyone…things are really warming up around here!

First of all, I need to apologize and make one big correction to my last month’s writing. I was wrong about District 23 supplying 12X12’s to the jails and prisons in our area—they

were purchased for the groups that needed them and people in treatment at our local treatment center…A Big OOPS!

The April Birthday Potluck was a big success now that the treatment center folks are able to join us again. The Sobriety Countdown for the potluck attendees was 386. Members Celebrating ‘Year’ Birthdays: Maureen 21, Javier 13 and Rick with 6 years. We had several 30- and 60-day coins presented with more month chips under 1 year. $30 was collected in donations. Sherylann has reserved the parks in Chelan Falls area for the months of May, June, July and August so we are moving outdoors again! Our Birthday Potlucks are held the last Saturday of each month if you are visiting District 23’s area, PLEASE JOIN US IN CELEBRATION! Coffee is on at 4:30PM and we start eating at 5:00PM so the treatment center people can make the 7:00PM “As Bill See’s” meeting at the hospital. Here is the Birthday Potluck location schedule:

(Don’t Even Know I Am Lying)

Hi! My name is Mark and I’m an alcoholic. But…you can call me King Tut, King of De Nile.

I could be in a storm and convince myself I am dry.

I often use the “Denial/the Nile” metaphor. It occurred to me during a meeting that the

metaphor could be expanded to describe my addiction and, perhaps, my recovery.

The river is my addiction. The current drags me along in my daily struggle and tends to

drag me deeper, despite my efforts. There are quiet pools, my quit attempts. Raging rapids abound, my relapses.

Animals abound in the Nile. Hippos are triggers, barely seen. They dump me back into

the rapids. Crocodiles (and their tears) are the means by which I manipulate, lie, and deny,

to meet my selfish needs.

The shore? It’s my destination. It is sobriety, sanity, and spirituality. From the center of

the river, I can deny that a shore exists! Flailing in the rapids, I focus on staying afloat, and

lose sight of the shore altogether. From the pools, I can try to wade. As I trudge, it is so

easy to convince myself that I am not welcome. Too hard, too far, too tired. Too afraid!

A lifeline appears in the river. It buoys me, keeping me afloat. I can rest! I am too weak

to swim on my own. Kicking hard, I can resist the current and at last stand at The Landing

Place, the AA meeting I now call home. Others appear to walk beside me. AA can save me from De Nile!

2020 Alcoholics Anonymous International Convention “Love and Tolerance is Our Code”

2020 International Convention Frequently Asked Questions Registration, Housing, and Transportation

In less than two years — July 2-5, 2020 — the International Convention will celebrate A.A.’s 85th Anniversary in Detroit, Michigan. With a theme of “Love and Tolerance Is Our Code,” A.A.s from around the world will converge on Detroit to celebrate sobriety and to share experience, strength and hope in meetings, panels and workshops at the Cobo Center, the Ford Field stadium and at other locations throughout the friendly city. Members of the Fellowship are now gearing up for this wonderful event, and the General Service Office is beginning to receive inquiries. So here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding the Convention.

Registration

Q When will registration forms be available? A Registration forms will be mailed in August 2019 to all G.S.R.s, central offices, intergroups and

international G.S.O.s. Online registration will be available September 9, 2019.

Q Will I be able to register online? A Yes. There will be links to registration on G.S.O.’s A.A. website, www.aa.org.

Q What about on-site registration? A On-site registration will be set up at the Cobo Center and will open on Wednesday morning, July

1, 2020.

Q Must everyone register? I thought I didn’t have to pay to go to an A.A. event. A Yes. Everyone must register. Attendance at this special celebration is voluntary, and, as

responsible A.A. members, “we pay our own way.” The International Convention is paid for by those A.A.s who participate in it.

Q How much will registration cost? A Advanced registration for the convention between September 9, 2019 and April 14, 2020 will be

$115.00 (USD) per attendee. Registration after April 15, 2020 will be $140.00 (USD) per attendee

Q Can travel agents register groups or individuals? A No. Payments from travel agencies to register groups or individuals will not be accepted.

Housing

Q When can I reserve my hotel room? A Once you have registered for the Convention, you will be able to sign up for housing.

Q Where are the main hotels? A Our Convention hotel block of over 10,000 rooms will be in five main areas, four in Michigan —

downtown Detroit, Dearborn, Southfield and Romulus/Airport — and one just across the Canadian border, in Windsor, Ontario. Of those 10,000 rooms, only 3,000 are in downtown Detroit and within walking distance of the Cobo Center and the Ford Field Stadium.

Q Can members contact hotels directly? A No. To make the process as fair as possible, all housing requests will be processed through the

Convention Housing Bureau.

Q Can travel agents make room reservations? A Room reservations can only be made in an individual’s name. Rooms available through the

Housing Bureau, at specially negotiated Convention rates, are not commissionable to travel agents.

Q Can we request a room in the same hotel with friends? A Yes. You can reserve more than one room through the housing process as long as your friends

have registered for the Convention. You will need to provide their name(s) and be prepared to pay additional deposits.

Q If 50 of us are coming together from the same area, can we be in the same hotel? A We do make an effort to accommodate group housing requests. There is a separate procedure

for this so we can ensure fairness while still trying to meet your needs. For information on this procedure, please contact the International Convention coordinator at G.S.O. at [email protected].

Transportation

Q Will local transportation be available? A All members in housing blocked for this event will be provided with shuttle buses for a less-than-

45-minute ride to the Cobo Center and the Ford Field stadium. Some members will be within walking distance of the meeting venues.

Q What about special airline rates? A As at other International Conventions, there will be special fares available. That information will

be available with the August 2019 registration information mailing and on the International Convention Website.

Q Where can I find information about crossing the border into the U.S. for this event? A For accurate, specific and up-to-date information about visas and travel into the U.S., visit the

United States Department of State website: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas.html.

If you are coming from abroad, you may need a visa. Most Canadian citizens and many citizens of countries in the United States Visa Waiver Program (VWP) do not need a visa. However, you will need a machine-readable passport valid for at least 90 days past your date of departure. The VWP countries are: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, San Marino, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.

If you do not come from a VWP country, you must obtain a nonimmigrant visa. Plan ahead; it may take six (6) months to receive a nonimmigrant visa, depending on the demand in your country.

Please note, some of our available hotels are located in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Therefore, attendees staying in Windsor will be crossing the international border at least twice a day, when coming into Detroit and when departing. While this is handled routinely, it will require you to carry your passport at all times.

Q Where do I obtain more information about the 2020 International Convention? A More information will be available throughout 2019 and 2020 in Box 4-5-9 and on G.S.O.’s

website, www.aa.org (you can use the QR code below). All necessary information will be included in the registration packet, which will be available August 2019. G.S.O.’s website will be updated as more information becomes available.

We hope to see you in Detroit to celebrate the 85th birthday of Alcoholics Anonymous.
