ME PROJECT 1: ADJUSTABLE SHELVES & FOLDING BAR CYLINDRICAL

REFRIGERATOR

INTRODUCTION &DESIGN: To reduce size of the outer body we use cylindrical shape along

with adjustable shelves that rotate, allowing users to easily access items that are normally

difficult to reach in existing fridges and can change the gap between the 2 successive shelves as

per the requirement. Also use folding technique which allows the user to shift shelves downward

when not in use and reduce the size of the refrigerator for better cooling with lesser power

consumption.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

Increase of 12.84% in total volume in proposed design as compared to present design.

Increase of 2.78% in useful volume to the total volume in proposed design.

Mass of material used for making body decreased by 10.69% in proposed design.

Stress concentrates and leakage reduce at corners.

Useful volume at shelves increased by 5.99% in proposed design.

Shelves can rotate, allowing user to easily access items and accessible to any area.

Shelves are capable of changing heights or say can flips up and down easily.

Save about 2340.5% of volume to access the door.

BENEFITS IN MANUFACTURING COST AND HEAT TRANSFER:

There will be 8.40% less material is used in proposed design compared to present design.

The amount of welding is reduced by 52%.

About 1.45% of less material is used in proposed design shelves.

Cost of insulation is reduced by 9.31% in propose design.

For the same thickness of insulation and same inside capacity the heat loss is lowest in

cylindrical refrigerator as compared to rectangular refrigerator by 8.50%.

INTRODUCTION &DESIGN: In some parts of the world, lighting is provided through

expensive and polluting kerosene & other fuels which are hazardous to health and environment

and constantly require replenishment. It was estimated that nearly 2.5million people in India

alone suffer severe disease from overturned fossils fuel lamps every year as well as the vast

amounts of carbon dioxide produced.Gravity light is a revolutionary new approach to store

energy and create illumination.

FUTURE PROSPECTIVE

Solar, Wind, Tidal, Geothermal are some popular examples of renewable energy sources. Yet

these sources have their own unique geographical as well as other limitations and are not

available throughout. But gravity is available across our entire planet. Thus we can use

something like electricity from gravity on a large scale to generate electricity any time at any

place. Also it will provide renewable, sustainable and cheap alternative to conventional lights.

The impact will be beneficial for the social, health and economic situations of end users.

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: For design, analysis and optimization of various vehicle

components different CAD modelling and Analysis software like Solid- Works, Pro-E, ANSYS,

Lotus is being used. Once material and component was finalized, each of them was modelled

using software. Some of our components like wheel hub and its assembly have been

indigenously designed and manufactured.

ME PROJECT 4: POWER OPERATED PORTABLE HUMAN TRANSPORTER

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: The basic requirement and reason behind the introduction of

POPORT HT is minimizing human effort and eventually the time consumption for covering short

distances and also the portability of the vehicle. User can fold it and carry it as a trolley whenever needed

and could be used as a vehicle by unfolding it. The development of the vehicle has been done keeping in

mind the basic requirements an also in a budget friendly manner. The design chosen for the vehicle

assembly is so chosen that the user has to apply a minimum effort while handling and making use of it.

The front section of the vehicle is designed that when folded and carried away like a trolley the rear wheel

does not strike the body of the user. The housing for the bearings is provided with slots so that the tension

in belt can be accordingly. The bearings with the shaft are mounted in housing which allow the bearing to

in the plane of the shaft when sudden jerks are encountered. This is done so in order to increase the life of

the bearings. The hinges in the coulomb are spring loaded in such a way that they remain in a fixed

position as placed by the user and not move under their own weight. The platform on the frame is

provided with a thick layer of foam which serves 2 purposes (i) to damp the high frequency low

vibrations developed due to road irregularities & (ii) when the user takes position to ride it, the foam gets

compressed and the resulting depression under the feet of the driver provides better grip to the driver.

ME PROJECT 5: PNEUMATIC TRIPLE AXIS LOADER

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: A pneumatic system consists of a compressor control valves

drive member and related auxiliary appliance. The air is compressed in an air compressor and

from the compressor the medium air flow is transmitted to the pneumatic cylinder through a well

laid pipe line system. Air compressor having maximum pressure 150bar and its air flow

60L/min, Current is flowing at 18amp. There are four control valve having playing role two way

control system.

INTRODUCTION &DESIGN: A GO-Kart is a type of open-wheel car. Go-Karts come in all

shapes and forms, from motor-less models to high-powered racing machines. Some, such as

super karts are able to beat racing cars on long circuits. Go-Kart is a simple four-wheeled, small

engine, single sealed racing car used mainly in United States. Go-Kart generally has no

Suspension and no Differential. They are usually raced on flat tracks.

development of mechanism and machine that facilitate working and operation by physically

challenged individual to drive and also carry their wheelchair with them. This “Wheelchair

Accommodating Three Wheeler” is specially designed to accommodate or contain a person

along with a wheelchair and also drive the vehicle, all in real time without ever bringing in the

factor of their disability.

SPECIAL FEATURES

• This “Wheelchair Accommodating Three Wheeler” allow driver to be seated in

their wheelchair and drive freely.

• They can unload the wheelchair at their destination, this help them with their

localized move ability.

• It is provided with special locking in place mechanism to provide safety to the driver.

• The floor of the vehicle is lowered with help of special mechanism for easy ramping

up the chair.

SOCIAL ECONOMIC FEATURES

This project is aimed at changing the way the disable have to be dependent on someone else for

transportation. The cost of this system is little higher than the conventional scooter, but subsidy

from the government can make it cheaper, father commercial production will reduce cost further.

ME PROJECT 9: SOLAR HYBRID VEHICLE

INTRODUCTION&DESIGN: The future is of electric and hybrid vehicles. The purpose is to

make a low cost hybrid vehicle with high fuel efficacy. Regenerative system is incorporated to

recover waist energy to the vehicle. This project is aimed at making a low cost four wheeler with

very high fuel efficiency. This type of vehicles will help to reduce the pollution and also reduce

the consumption of precious fuel. Thought the exact cost cannot be estimated in these types of

projects but commercial manufacturing will reduce the cost considerable.

ME PROJECT 10: TO DEVELOP AN INBUILT HYDRAULIC JACK IN A VEHICLE

INTRODUCTION&DESIGN: An Automobile hydraulic jack can be easily operated by hand

operated leaver provided on the dash board. The jack will be installed on both the sides of

chassis according to the weight distributions of the car. The system operates on hydraulic drive

which consists of three main parts magnetic clutch to drive the hydraulic pump, hydraulic pump

and hydraulic cylinder to lift the vehicle. The hydraulic jacks actuate separately for either side of

car as per the breakdown condition. This jack will be very useful for all the senior citizens and

especially for females (ladies) who find it extremely difficult to operate the jack manually in any

breakdown condition. The motive behind using hydraulic system instead of a pneumatic system

is the more power produced by the system and simple in design as compared to a pneumatic

design. As the hydraulic oil is incompressible so the lifting capacity is more in comparison with

the pneumatic system.

It is believed that ‘Necessity is the mother of invention’. Here the necessity lies in reducing the

human effort applied during manual operation of the jacks and hence the need of the invention.

In day to day life it is very tedious job to operate the jack manually and it is also a very time

consuming work as well. So to make it easier for everyone especially for aged person and for

lady drivers. To provide a safe and simple automatic hydraulic jacking system without manual

effort. To provide a jack system that can be operated from within the vehicle by means of a

dashboard control.

In this project we have made a digital fuel measurement device which is able to measure the

amount of the fuel in the tank at any time.

Fuel level measurement and average of the vehicle was the concept to make show the fuel level

in litres/ml and to show the average/mileage of the vehicle. This idea was initiated by us during

the increase use of vehicles on roads which further increase the consumption of fuel and to

modify the luxuries segments of the cars in low range vehicles. As the automobile industry

making an increase stagnant place all over the world this further increase the consumption of

fuel, and it is very much necessary to use the fuel efficiently so this concept was make us belief

to work which can shows the fuel measurement as well as average of the vehicle exactly so that

the driver can have an idea of the fuel in the tank.

This also increase the knowledge and idea about the fuel measurement and average which

actually guide the driver how much fuel is there in tank as well as how much is the average of

the vehicle and addition to that we also work that how much the vehicle will move with the rest

amount of fuel in the fuel tank.The main advantage of our project is that our display can show

the fuel measurement and average in both petrol and diesel engine and also in 4 stroke and 2

stroke engines.

ME PROJECT 13: PEDAL OPERATED HACKSAW MACHINE

INTRODUCTION& DESIGN

Pedal powered Hacksaw cutting machine is a manually pedal operated system which is mainly

used for cutting metals, wood and plastics. The pedal powered hacksaw setup has a simple

mechanism operated with chain and sprocket gear arrangement. During pedalling, the wheel

rotary motion is converted into the “To and Fro” motion of the cutting tool (Hacksaw). That is

the principle of slider crank mechanism. The size and shape is similar to a bicycle, it can be

operated by very low power since it requires a very low pedalling power.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

• The system also uses the flywheel which reduces the fluctuations speed caused by the

fluctuations of pedalling and also uniform cutting. The flywheel also serves as an energy

reservoirs that stores energy when it is excess and release it when there is shortage of energy

within the system.

• It will use a less effort pedalling power to produce uniform cutting of PVC pipes, metals,

wood and as the same time serve as an exercising machine for fitness. It is also done to show

the performance difference between hand driven and pedal driven hacksaw.

The treadmill bicycle is totally new way of moving. It is done by the combination of electric and

mechanical part assessment i.e. Battery and Gear. Motion of bicycle from one place to another

place will be done by human effort. The electric assist is in the combination with the gear. The

gear pair will boost your walking pace up the regular bike. If someone walks on the treadmill

bicycle, then he has to push the treadmill by his feet. The movement of the treadmill gives the

signal to the electronics device which will activate the motor.

ME PROJECT 16: VAPOUR ABSORPTION REFERIGERATION SYSTEM BY USING

SOLAR ENERGY WITH SOLAR TRACKING SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: We had hands on practise on solar operated refrigeration

cycle. In this project, we made a vapour absorption refrigeration cycle with ammonia. To operate

the cycle, we have to heat up ammonia min at 83 degree centigrade. To heating this mechanism,

we used solar energy. We used a parabolic reflector, which concentrates the sun waves in the

centre. There are water heating tubes, which are heated up by the solar energy. When the

temperature of the water reached up to 83 degrees, the ammonia in the system starts circulating

and our refrigeration system starts working. To get maximum output, we also tracked the sun’s

position. We made mechanisms which follow the sun to get the maximum output.

ME PROJECT 17: BOREWELL RESCUE ROBOT SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: The proposed system is to save life from the bore wells. Small

children slips in the open bore well; since the wells are dug too deep it is very difficult to save

life. The rescue team find it difficult to rescue children due to unknown levels of humidity,

temperature and oxygen in the depths of the bore well. The objective of the project was to supply

oxygen, water and food to the victim trapped inside the well. Safely machine is falling down

without slipping in between and save the child life and taking out the child as soon as possible.

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: Heat engines are used in teaching thermodynamics as ideas to

develop theory and real things to illustrate working thermodynamic principles. The Stirling

engine combines both possibilities. We use it as a tool to illustrate some basic thermodynamic

principles; to show the characteristics of a heat engine and interpret a p-V diagram. We also

show how the Stirling engine can be used to demonstrate the principles of operation of a

refrigerator and heat pump.

A Stirling engine is a heat engine operating by cyclic compression and expansion of air or other

gas, the working fluid, at different temperature levels such that there is a net conversion of heat

energy to mechanical work. Or more specifically, a closed-cycle regenerative heat engine with a

permanently gaseous working fluid, where closed-cycle is defined as a thermodynamic system in

which the working fluid is permanently contained within the system, and regenerative describes

the use of a specific type of internal heat exchanger and thermal store, known as the regenerator.

It is the inclusion of a regenerator that differentiates the Stirling engine from other closed cycle

hot air engines.

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN:Study of air flow around a body is an important aspect of

mechanical engineering; R/C aircraft may prove to be interesting tool for this. As they involves

aerodynamics, woodworking, composite materials, electronics, mechanics, small motors,

drafting and artistry. The first thing one must realize about a radio controlled model aircraft is

that it is not a toy. The model is a real aircraft which flies and operates by the same principles as

its full scale counterpart. The only difference is size and weight. Models can fly at anywhere

between 20 and 150 MPH with the average speed between 40 and 60 MPH. These are not so

slow vehicles, nor can they be flown in a normal backyard. They require space. And just like

their bigger brothers, they require a learned skill to be controlled properly. It is not simply a

matter of pushing a button to take off, another to land etc.

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN:A compressed air engine (CAE) is powered by using

compressed air, which is stored in a tank. Instead of mixing fuel with air and burning it in the

engine to drive pistons with hot expanding gases; compressed-air vehicles use the expansion of

compressed air to drive their pistons. Based on the air consumption rate of various air motors,

this project uses the piston-type air engine for the feasibility study for vehicle applications. With

their comparatively low air consumption rates, piston-type air engine have the advantages of

longer duration, and therefore, longer-range performance when installed in vehicles.

ME PROJECT 25: HOVERCRAFT

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: A Hovercraft means an air cushion vehicle which can travel

over all types of surfaces including grass, mud, sand, quicksand, water and ice. Hovercraft

prefers gentle terrain although they are capable of climbing slopes up to 20%, depending upon

surface characteristics. It may consist of two engines with fans. One engine and fan for lift and

other for the thrust. Thrust fan is mounted on the rear of the engine. The size of the thrust fan is

depends upon the total weight of the hovercraft.

INNOVATIONS AND CAPABILITIES

We developed a hovercraft of size of 2x1.5 m2. In our hovercraft we have decided to make a gap

of 0.10m with the help of lift. We considered that the total weight of our hovercraft will be

1666N. We have calculated the following design values:

• Air cushion pressure = 555.33pascal

• Area of air gap = 0.072m2

• Velocity of escape air = 23.52 m/s

• Air flow rate of gap =1.67m3/s

• Required engine power =6.66 h.p.

• Area of air cushion =3.001m2

• Lift force =1550 N

• Thrust force =775N

• Air pressure =482N/m2

• Aluminium ribs were used as outer structure material of our hover. Stainless steel pipes

were being used for the inner structure. For skirt we used neoprene coated nylon fabric.

This fabric is strong enough for bearing all loads and lift pressure of the craft. We joined

each component of outer structure by riveting.

• Our Hovercraft was able to run at 15 kmph and it can run on any surface like smooth

roads, mud roads and water.

ME PROJECT 26: THERMOACAUSTIC REFRIGERATION

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: This project examined the effectiveness of thermo acoustic

refrigeration, which is the theory of using sound waves as a coolant. We studied the dynamics of

sound, temperature, and the Carnot cycle, and used this knowledge to come to an understanding

of thermo acoustics. We then applied this understanding to the construction of a small thermo

acoustic refrigerator, which was built from inexpensive and readily available parts. The

experiments showed that while thermo acoustic cooling was possible, high efficiency was

beyond our reach due to materials restrictions. However, from these limitations we devised

several proposals for increasing the efficiency of thermo acoustic refrigerators. A few

suggestions for future work include using different materials, and changing the size and shape of

the parts used. While there was no time or resources for us to conduct further research to test

these suggestions, we hope our findings will encourage more research in this field.

Our Project shows that thermo-acoustic refrigeration has the potential to replace conventional

refrigeration. In addition to the lack of toxic refrigerants, thermo-acoustic refrigeration also

requires less maintenance and is less expensive, because there are few, if any, moving parts, and

most of the components can be produced inexpensively. We proved this by achieving a cooling

effect, if only slight, using only household materials.

Thermo-acoustic refrigeration also has a broad range of applications, including computers and

nanotechnology. It will likely be employed by the military and space.

INTRODUCTION & DESIGN: Project involves the complete system design and construction

of a sentry gun to replace an armed guard. We aimed to develop a compact and highly mobile

defence system that allows operational flexibility. The sentry gun can autonomously track and

shoot at moving targets, while also allowing a user to remotely access and control the gun via

computer. The mobility, hardiness, and functionality of this system allows a reliable replacement

for human beings in harsh and hostile environments; ultimately sparing a life.
