DEVELOPMENT OF DEMAND FOR INNOVATION PROJECTS IN 2019

STUDY REGARDING LOW DEMAND

INTERFACE, commissioned by Innosuisse executed 40 interviews with research and implementation partners in order to determine the reasons for the low demand in 2018.

Main results: Uncertainty about funding criteria, processes, chances of success, etc. causes a “Wait-and-see-

attitude” especially amongst research partners. Greater distance to experts (decision makers) is deplored, competence of new experts in charge

is not known. Online application tool and application form offer room for improvement. Limited capacity due to ongoing projects.

MEASURES TO INCREASE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS

Improvements with respect to the application process: Dates of the meetings of the IC subgroups are published on the website (better planning for

applicants). Funding criteria are presented better and more comprehensively on the website and explained

e.g. in a video. Special calls are prepared (digitalisation, food, innovation based on “soft sciences”).

Improvement of communication: An Innosuisse Newsletter is published (first edition of 28 May 2019); registration:

www.innosuisse.ch/newsletter Roadshows are resumed, workshops organised, stakeholder contacts intensified Innosuisse is present at various events (Schweizer Digitaltag, Swiss Innovation Forum, etc.)

The goal is to promote digitalisation

Aimed at consortia comprised of companies and research institutions

Duration of the projects: 12 or 18 months (2019/2020)

The «Manufacturing technologies» impulse programme with CHF 12 millions per year

Support for digitalisation in energy and mobility via the Swiss Competence Centres for Energy Research (SCCERs) with CHF 1.5 million per year

- First call (January 2019): 46 projects submitted, 27 approved, 12 Mio.- Second call (May 2019): 29 projects submitted

TWO FUNDING SCHEMES: Proof of concept: for

young researchers, an initial step into industry practice

Discovery: for experienced researchers, implementing the innovation potential of research results

With "BRIDGE Discovery", 12 applications for support were approved.
