mother, two brothers and three sisters. My grandparents also live with us. In India, family is very important. It is

Bob lives in a small flat in London. In the mornings, he wakes up and has a shower. Then he makes breakfast. He usually has a typical English breakfast with eggs and bacon. After that, he goes to work.
He works in an office in the center of London. He sits in front of the computer all day and writes emails. He doesn’t like his job very much, but he likes earning money. At 12 o’clock he goes to lunch and has a sandwich. After lunch, he comes back to work and writes more emails. At 5 o’clock he leaves work.
He sometimes sees his girlfriend in the evenings. She lives on the opposite side of London, so he takes the Underground.
On weekends, he doesn’t have to work. He usually goes out for a few beers with his friends on Friday night. On Saturday he goes shopping. On Sunday he goes to his grandmother’s house for tea.
On Monday he gets up early and goes back to work.

go out = salir

"Hi Cristina, I am sorry I haven’t called you for so long. How are you? How is
your new apartment? I have been very busy at work. I arrive at the office at 7 am and leave at around 6:30 pm. I just get half an hour for lunch and a five-

home so I just eat, watch some television and go to bed. In the office, I am on the phone all day, listening to
customer complaints and entering them into our computer system. At the end of the day I have to write a summary of all the calls I received during the day and
give my boss a status on the complaints that are not yet resolved. I do not know how much longer I can do this. I need a vacation, or even better, I need another

Detective Ramirez walks in and looks around the room. Detective Estevez
waits by the door. Ramirez walks up to the dead body and begins to speak.
“The neighbors called the police because of the smell. They say he was
very quiet and minded his own business. He rarely had visitors. We need a forensics team here to tell us
the exact cause and time of death.” He takes a closer look at the body and continues to describe the scene for Detective Estevez to make notes.
“I see trauma to the head and bruises all over his body. No bullet wound. Take a picture of the dining table. Someone
else was here… eating a sandwich…and it wasn’t the victim. The killer ate the
sandwich either before or after beating the victim, possibly to death. Either
way, this is not a random murder; this was personal. Let’s start tracking down relatives and friends of the victim. We need to talk to anyone who knew him. Someone has to know something. Did
you write all that down? Let’s start with the neighbors.”

This is John and Rachel’s first date. John is anxious to impress her so he brings her to an expensive French restaurant. He orders a glass of wine for each of them and exchanges a few words in French with the waiter. The waiter
compliments him on his French and returns with the wine and the menu.
“Wow, I am impressed! Where did you learn to speak French?” Rachel asks.
“Well, I took a few classes at the French Language Institute and spent a few
weeks in France after that. But it was a few years ago and my French is a little rusty” replies John blushing. “I could
order for us in French if you like.”
“That would be cool! I’ve never been to
"¡Wow, estoy impresionada! ¿Dónde aprendiste a hablar francés?" pregunta
Rachel.
"Bueno, yo tomé algunas clases en el Instituto de Lengua Francesa y después
pasé unas semanas en Francia. Pero eso fue hace unos años y mi francés
está un poco oxidado ", responde John sonrojándose. "Yo podría ordenar para
a French restaurant with someone who was fluent in the language. Order a
chicken dish for me. I don’t know much about French food but anything in a
cream sauce would be great.”
“Alright” says John. “There’s a chicken in mushroom and asparagus cream
sauce that I think you will like, and I’ll have the rack of lamb.”
“Sounds perfect!” says Rachel as the waiter approaches the table to take
their order. John speaks to the waiter in French,
who smiles and nods politely. About ten minutes later he returns with their
order. “Anything else I can get for you?” he asks after placing the plates on the
table.
John and Rachel look at their plates and then look at each other.
John looks embarrassed. “I guess my French is more than 'a little rusty'.”

oxidado'."

Adjusting to life in the United States is hard. I am in my last year of High
School and it hasn’t been easy. The language is the hardest part. I had 10
years of English in school in Mexico and my parents sent me for private classes
as well. Even with all the English I studied in Mexico, I find it very hard to understand the other kids at school. They talk really fast and use a lot of
slang. Most of them don’t bother to talk to me as they already have their own
group of friends.

Fortunately, apart from English, most of my classes are really easy. Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics
were much harder in Mexico. American history is boring. The only part I like is
the part about the First and Second World Wars. The homework is usually so easy that I finish it even before the bus arrives to take us home. When I’m at
home, I try to read books or watch the news to improve my English.

My cousin Natalia tries to help me with my English, but at home we speak

Michelle’s Weekend - Part 1 El fin de semana de Michelle - Parte 1
Michelle had a difficult week at the office. She was very glad that the

el domingo por la noche.
She woke up at 7 am on Saturday morning, took a shower and went to the gym to work out. After that, she had a quick breakfast at home, checked the
news on the internet and replied to her emails. For lunch she met some friends at a small café where they talked about the week and she gave them an update
about her relationship with Alex. She told them that she would be visiting her
parents in New Jersey on Sunday and that Alex would come with her for the first time. Her friends told her not to

In the afternoon she went to the supermarket and shopped for groceries.
She bought chicken, pasta, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and cucumber. She
also bought pasta sauce and salad dressing. Since she is trying to lose
weight, she didn’t buy any ice cream or potato chips. She bought some
bananas, oranges, apples, grapes and strawberries instead. After she got
home, she marinated the chicken and put it in the refrigerator so that she would be able to cook it in the oven
later.
pasta, lechuga, tomates, zanahorias y pepino.
At 5 pm, she met Alex and they went to their French class together. The topic of that day was the subjunctive, which is very difficult for English speakers. The only way to learn it is to practice it as often as possible, so she and Alex had been doing plenty of written exercises
using the subjunctive.

After the class they went home to Michelle’s house to watch a movie. Michelle put the chicken in the oven
and opened a bottle of wine for them to enjoy during the movie. The movie was
