Big Weekend Penwythnos Mawr
A one stop shop for everything in Sailing, Windsurfing and Power in Wales! The RYA
Cymru·Wales Big Weekend offers a packed programme of workshops to benefit
individuals, instructors, coaches, Race Officials, Club Officials as well as clubs and
organisations.
Join the RYA Cymru Wales team for weekend, the day or the Mexican themed dinner on
Saturday evening.
The prices for the weekend are below, there is an early bird discount of 15% if you book
before 12th February.

‘Green Scheme’ - RYA Cymru Wales ‘Green Scheme’ is designed to help volunteers who are travelling over 120miles (round trip) to attend the conference.
If you have a round trip journey of 120miles or more within Wales and are bringing 3 or more people in your car
(including the driver); your mileage will be paid at a rate of £0.15p per
mile!

Matthew, Archery GB Senior Physiotherapist is no
stranger to the sailing scene having come up through
the squad pathway, worked for the RYA and has been
a regular speaker at the RYA Suzuki Dinghy Show.

Advanced Rules Clinic Latest updates on any minor alterations to the rules before the next
Olympics with David Battye, North Wales Regional Rules Adviser.
Shorebased Teaching Techniques Here Andy Wright will look at session planning, teaching spe-
cific navigation topics and ways to motivate a group of people with different learning needs.
Making Short Promotional Videos Bring your smart phone or tablet along to this great workshop
run by TV Conwy and find out how easy it is to film, produce and edit your own short videos to
promote your club or centre using these tools. During the course of the workshop you will make
a short video that will be entered in the Big Weekend Video Competition!
Community sport going forward; the opportunities. The funding of community sport is chang-
ing, come along to this update session with Sport Wales to find more about the opportunities
any organisation engaged in community based sport can now engage with.
Rough Water Boat Handling Rough water handling at Intermediate and Advanced Powerboat
level, including deciding on operating areas, reading waves, safety and injury prevention.
Social media; Promoting your activity Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and more; social media is
an ever changing landscape, come along to this exciting session to find out more about the
different opportunities this medium provides.
Chatty Ali and Friends Join Ali Yates, RYA Cymru Wales Windsurfing Coach for an entertaining
session with some exciting and well known faces on the Windsurfing scene in Wales. Ali is
joined by Farrel O’Shea who smashed the British speed windsurfing record, and Louis Morris,
British Raceboard Champion 2015.
Fitness and Posture for Sailing with physiotherapist Matthew McGovern. Learn sailing focussed
exercises and stretches.
Challenging Racing, New styles and a Champions League What’s new and current on the rac-
ing scene; what are the opportunities here in Wales? Come along to this update workshop with
Mike Butterfield, North Wales Race Management coordinator to find out more.
Corners! Roll Tacks & Gybes Those pesky corners can really slow you down. Let’s break it
down into simple steps to find more about these key manoeuvres, to not only enhance your
own skills, but also how to teach them.
Windsurfing Kit Review - what’s out there? With so many different types of opportunities in
windsurfing it can be a bit over whelming. Come along to this session to find out the differences
and what is new or up and coming in the world of windsurfing.
Sailing Kit Review- what’s new with the trade? Chat with the trade; Hartley Laminates, RS Sail-
ing and more.
Advanced Race Management Clinic Already a RYA Race Officer? This session is for you! Bring
along your thoughts and questions.
Meteorology Penny Tranter lifts the fog surrounding meteorology for dinghy, windsurf, personal

to the Recreational Craft Code and its progress.
