Coachair provide HVAC solutions to the Bus and Coach Industry throughout the world. We are an Australian Engineered Company using only the highest quality components, with support services including Engineering, Research and Development, Technical Assistance, Spare Parts Management, Service Agents and Branch Networks. Our Head Office is located in Sydney Australia with Manufacturing and Assembly currently undertaken in KL Malaysia. Quality and customer satisfaction is what drives our organization. Main product is bus air conditioner.The biggest project for now is design the

XT unit air conditioner for bus for Iranian company in Iran.

INTERVIEW PERSON BACKGROUND AND DETAIL

His name is Azrul Azizi bin Hud.From Negeri Sembilan, live in Kuala

Lumpur.Graduated Diploma in Electrical from

Polytechnic Sultan Azlan Shah.Further his study at UTM, major in

Engineering Design.Winner of Young Designer competition for

design the futuristic innovation.

His now as a Design Engineer at Coachair Sdn. Bhd. and also as a Assistance Manager.

His been working here for four years and his job is to design and upgrade the air conditioning system for a bus and coach.

He choose this company because the environment and he want to learn something new from the multinational company. With less than 40 people working there, he can learn faster than every where else.

He also working with other engineer (from Australia) to design the new air conditioning system for the new Iran buses.

He said, ”Anyone can be like him, as long you working hard and willing to learn from others and teach to others”. A good advice to who want to be like him as a Design Engineer.

He thought maybe in a few years, the company can improve and achieve more and more.

RESEARCH FOCUS

Before the designing process started, there are few thing to take into consideration, such as:◦Where it is used◦What is the client specification◦Budget or costing◦How many power that the system want to used◦Material that will used

Sometimes client want different design or custom design for their air conditioning system, the designer has to makes changes and modification from the standard design to the client want.

In standard design, item will be used:◦ Fiber glass material to make the body◦ Stainless steel for bracket◦ Evaporator coil◦ Condenser coil◦ Control panel◦ TX valve◦ Dryer◦ Copper pipes◦ Motor◦ Compressor◦ Temperature prob

Safety precaution for designer to take into consideration is:◦No sharp edge◦Fault indicator◦Earthing for electrical wiring◦Seal form(water seal, prevent outlet water to

enter the bus)◦Follow the regular testing method

Problem Problem will occur in any ways. From the

designing process until the installation process.

In designing process, certain things that the designer have to deal is difficulties in assembling the component when the drawing is to small. Than the designer have to follow the client specification, but, if the specification that client want is different from the standard design, the designer has to do some changes and modification to the drawing.

For the installation team, several problem appeared. For example, leaking, fiber glass cracked and mounting and bracket is not fit with each other.

Solving the problems

Designer will take safety precaution before design a system, they have to go to the bus, measure the bracket, mounting, bending, length, everything he need to do in the drawing.

The designer also need to know what is the material that he will used using the client specification

The designer will do the prototype testing assembly before the installation begin.

Installation team has bigger problem, if their installation is problem, then the air conditioning system will ruins. So they need to check all the brazing join (copper to another copper), than handled with care the fiber glass material and some other thing they have to take the consideration.
