PLAN OF TALK
In 1925, RRIM Headquarters established in Jalan Damansara, KL. Opening of Experiment Station in Sungai Buloh.
Relocated at 260 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur on 19 May, 1937.
MRB is a government agency under the support of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities (KPPK).
Established with the specific purpose of exercising overall control of the research, technical development, market regulation and promotion work in support of the Malaysian rubber industry.
MRB include: Standard Development Agency, Academy Hevea Malaysia and GTACr

Heat build-up
Compression Stress Relaxation
Tensile Test
Hardness
Abrasion
Did a comparative test between the old and new machine. Several tests had been done including:
(1) Electrical Resistivity Test(2) Heat Build-up Test(3) Compression Stress Relaxation Test
Learnt all standard test method related to rubber.
(1) Electrical Resistivity Test
Keithley Picoammeter 485 model connected with Resistivity Adaptor 6105 and GW DC Power Supply
6517B electrometer/ high resistance meter connected with the Keithley Model 8009 Resistivity test fixture.
• Test conducted on both surface and volume resistivity depending on the appropriate electrode system.
• 2 different sample control sample electrical resistivity sample
• ASTM D257 standard test method• Nominal thickness of the test piece shall be in the range 0,5 mm to 5 mm,
preferably 1 mm or 2 mm.
Basic procedure
Thickness is measuredSizemin: 63.5 mm, max: 101.6 mm x 3.2 mm thick) greater than the annular electrode.
Put acetone mixture
Conditioned at least 24 h in desiccator
Sample put into test fixture
Volume resistivity measurement:
ohm-centimeters (1) volume resistivity of sampleV applied voltage from power supply in voltsthe average thickness of sample in inc the average thickness of sample in cm
Surface resistivity measurement:
ohm-centimeters (2) surface resistivity of sample Current outputsV applied voltage from power supply in volts
(2) Heat Build-Up Test
Doli Compression Flexometer with fully automatic system
Ueshima Compression Flexometer/Goodrich Flexometer
• exposing a rubber sample of a specified size and shape to oscillating compressive stresses .
• Check durability of rubber in finished product• Follow the standards ISO 4666/3, ASTM D 623 and BS 903, part A50
vulcanized rubber with diameter (0.15) mm and height (0.25) mm
Temperature chamber where sample was inserted into (old
machine) (a) (new machine) (b)
Basic procedure
Dusty samples is put into the silo (for
automatic machine)
(3) Compression Stress Relaxation Test
Compression Stress Relaxometer (old machine)
Compression Stress Relaxometer (New machine)
• Defines as a reduction in compressive force, expressed as percentage of the initial force.
• Accordance by international standard (ISO 3384, MS ISO 3384, BS 3384) and American Society for Testing and Material (ASTM D575)
• duration of test shall be 168 h• Stress Relaxation percentage: R(t)= - /x 100
The cylindrical shape of rubber sample with diameter 13 mm 0.5 and thickness 6.3 mm 0.3 and compressed blank jigs were prepared.
Basic procedure
Jigs placed under the load cell and ready to be tested
Has difficulties on:
Understanding and differentiate the all the unfamiliar standard methods.
Clarify on how the machine is operated Adapting in working environment Test need to be repeated many times due to
several error
Challenges
Enhance common IT subject into more programming skills (Java C++ programming, Mat lab, AutoCAD )
deepen core subject Choose the right topic that more related to the
industry The study of quality control and quality assurance
should be insert in the syllabus
