Editor’s NoteDear Rotarians, Anns and Annets,

I heard and read more than once the key words “Work hard, stay simple” in so many different ways. All my grownup years, say from close to 18 till now, I have followed this principle. Hard work never fails to give one adequate returns and I proved this to myself by working hard all through my life. During my many years of work, I have received immense support from many, including my colleagues, supervisors, Managers and friends. When I first joined an American Company in Dubai as their Office Manager in 1975, the life was real hard. The Company had a Project in progress in Kuwait for which all the equipment and tools were shipped from our Dubai Warehouse. With very few people to support, we had to get one Barge out of Dubai every week, packed with heavy to light construction equipment, tools and supplies. A lot of coordination and export documentation were needed to achieve this goal of “one barge every week” slogan!! This was serious task and I had to put up no less than 12 hours of work each day, including weekends, for a period of over 2 years. It was no easy sailing for me because while working in India, I never worked over 8 hours each day and that too in a comfort zone! This project execution helped to mould my career with the Company and I worked for 36 years with them. Recommendations helped me to go up the ladder to end as a Senior Procurement & Logistics Manager, responsible for its entire operation in Saudi Arabia.

Many successful people are heard saying “I am a self made man”. I do not believe them. Right from the birth, every individual is receiving some form of love, education and instructions which combined with hard work paves way to their becoming successful “self made men”. One simply cannot claim that he is a self made man without anyone’s help in his entire life. At some point in time he may have received support in whatever simple form without which no one can become really successful. I am quoting me as an example because I strongly believe, hard work always pays.

What I want to convey to our Annets is that “work hard and get successful” in whatever you do. You can never fail. Hard work in your studies which is the foundation for your success. Set your goals when you are still young and work hard to make it happen. Success do not come easily but it cannot fail you too if you have a well thought of plan for you to execute with strength and courage . Get the best education, training and strive to become over the years, upcoming young entrepreneurs and businessmen or employees and light up your lives and light up the lives of those who depend on you.

And when you are in the process of becoming a successful person in life, JOIN ROTARY AND MAKE A

WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

Dear Rotarians,

First of all, I most sincerely and very cordially thank each and every one of you, including Rotary Anns and Annets of our Club, for giving me complete support and guidance, friendship and fellowship on the occasion of my daughter’s marriage on 5th May 2015. As a Rotarian I was getting the real feel of Rotary and its solidarity during these days. Many Rotary leaders have come all the way from distant clubs in the District. I am happy that this personal function has also contributed towards the cause of Rotary.

Next week, we have another wonderful opportunity to strengthen our mutual relationships beyond borders in organizing and conducting our family-tour. Family tour is one of the most important occasions where Rotarians and their family members mingle with one another and deepen their relationships and friendship. It should be an occasion for mutual understanding and accepting one another in spite of one’s weaknesses and shortcoming. I wish that this year’s family tour achieves its genuine objectives. I invite all of you to join the tour and enjoy yourselves to the maximum with hundreds and thousands of innocent pleasures.

This week we are inducting another new member to our Club – the 7th this Rotary year. Mr.M.G.Suresh Babu is an experienced professional in structural engineering. Every new member is a message of hope and joy. It is the responsibility of the existing members to ensure that the new members enjoy Rotary in all its fullness. On behalf of the Club, I most cordially invite Mr.Suresh Babu and his family to our midst. Congratulations to Mr.Suresh Babu!

The most important highlight at the moment is the preparations being made for the celebrations of the Silver jubilee of our Club. 25 years in history is very small. But, 25 years in the story of a Rotary Club is a matter to celebrate. We are called to thank the founders, senior members and leaders of our Club and the District for what they have been to us during these 25 years. We have to plan for the next 25 years to fill the club with more meaning – service, joy, friendship, fellowship, and whatever is required to enrich us as human beings.

I am filled with joy and happiness to invite all of you to celebrate.

“World Immunisation week” declared by world health organisation (WHO) was celebrated all over the world from 24 to 30 April 2015. WHO reports that 1 in 5 children is still missing out on routine life-saving immunizations that could avoid 1.5 million deaths each year from preventable diseases. Millions of children are at risk of illness and disability because they are not getting the immunizations they need. In the World Immunization Week 2015 (24 -30 April), WHO is calling for extra efforts to get progress in immunisation (vaccination). In 2013 nearly 22 million infants(children under 1 year) missed out on the required three doses of diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis-containing vaccines

(DTP3). “World Immunization Week” creates an awareness to our collective efforts to ensure vaccination for every child, whoever they are. In 2012, all 194 WHO Member States at the World Health Assembly, started the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP). However, a recent independent assessment report on GVAP showed that all vaccines are not given to all children. Many countries worldwide have experienced large measles outbreaks in the past year,

A worldwide drive for immunization, begun in the mid-1970s - with the establishment of the Expanded Programme on Immunization in all countries - achieved dramatic results, raising vaccination levels from as low as 5% to more than 80% in many countries by 2013. WHO estimates that today immunizations prevent between 2 and 3 million deaths annually and protect many more people from illness and disability. Progress has blocked in recent years. But the use of vaccines is increasingly being

extended from children to adolescents and adults. This provide protection against diseases such as influenza, meningitis and uterus and liver cancers. As members of voluntary service organisation, our role is increasing awareness and demand for immunization by communities (social mobilisation for vaccination). The Global Vaccine Action Plan aims a world free from vaccine preventable diseases by 2020.
