INDUCTION AND ORIENTATION FOR STAFF PROCEDURES

    PURPOSE

CQUniversity recognises that its future success continues to depend upon the capacities of our staff and, as one

component of capacity building, is committed to all new staff participating in a comprehensive induction and

orientation program. CQUniversitys induction and orientation processes will provide the information, guidance

and support required for staff to undertake their organisational responsibilities and to develop and succeed in

their new role. This will be achieved by familiarising new staff with the Universitys significant policies, systems

and procedures, governance structure, the work location (campus), and encouraging commitment to the vision,

mission and values of the University.

    PROCEDURES

    1 Induction Procedures

New staff and their supervisors can access information on current induction processes and organisational

information on the People and Culture Directorate website. It is the responsibility of supervisors to ensure that all

new staff complete the CQUniversity Induction Program and for academic staff, theFoundations of University

Learning and Teaching (FoULT) Programhosted by the Office of Learning and Teaching.

    2 Orientation Procedures

Orientation programs are developed and maintained within the individual work units, directorates or faculties in

consultation with the relevant campus and responsibility for this process rests primarily with the staff member'ssupervisor. CQUniversity actively encourages a structured orientation process to help new staff settle into

University life. As part of a staff member's orientation, it is recommended that a comprehensive orientation to

the University and the work unit is conducted using theInduction and Orientation for Staffinformation and tools

available on the People and Culture Directorate website.

Records of participation in orientation processes should be scanned and sent to the People and Culture

Directorate via email as detailed in the New Staff Orientation Checklist, no later than six months after the

    commencement date.

    3 Academic Teaching Induction

It is mandatory for new academic staff to attend the Foundations of University Learning and Teaching (FoULT)

Program hosted by the Office of Learning and Teaching. The Program provides information on policies and

procedures related to learning and teaching, e-learning, curriculum design, the development and delivery of

flexible learning materials and information on CQUniversity students.

Records of attendance at the Foundations of University Learning and Teaching sessions provided for academic

staff, will be maintained by the Office of Learning and Teaching.

For fixed-term academic staff appointed for less than twelve months and casual academic staff, there are

resources available on theLearning and Teaching website. The supervisor of the work unit may determine that

these staff are required to undertake mandatory sessions on learning and teaching depending on work unitrequirements.
