Indiana University East grew out of an extension established at Earlham College that was operated by Earlham and Indiana University. In 1967, the arrangement was expanded to include Purdue and Ball State universities and the extension became the Eastern Indiana Center of Earlham College.
In 1969, reflecting the community’s response to this opportunity to take state university courses at home, Richmond citizens formed an association known as Eastern Indiana Community College, Inc., to raise funds for the construction of a new campus. Following a successful campaign in which they raised over $1 million, members of the community col-lege organization, with the consent of the four education institutions involved in the center, requested Indiana University to establish a regional campus in Richmond to assume responsibility for the operation.
The Indiana General Assembly approved this plan, and on July 1, 1971, the East-ern Indiana Center for Earlham College became Indiana University East, the sixth campus in the Indiana University regional system. On October 3, 1972, ground was broken at the new campus site north of Richmond. The first building, an all-purpose academic facility named Whitewater Hall, was completed in late 1974 and dedicated February 23, 1975.
Ground was broken for a new library/classroom build-ing on August 8, 1990. It was dedicated as the Brice E. Hayes Hall on June 12, 1992.
The third classroom building on the IU East campus was completed in May 1995. The building, which was dedicated as Middlefork Hall on June 12, 1996, houses the fine arts program and classrooms and
laboratories for the School of Education and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. In 2009, the building was renamed Tom Raper Hall in recogni-tion of the largest gift in IU East’s history.
The fourth building, dedicated as Springwood Hall in November 1999, houses the Graf Recreation Center, University College, the Chancellor’s and Campus Life offices, as well as general and spe-cialty classrooms. Additionally, the IU East Henry County Danielson Learning Center was dedicated in May 1999 to serve the citizens of Henry County. IU

Tiernan CenterThe Indiana Univer-
sity East men’s bas-
ketball team plays
its home games at
the Richmond High
School Tiernan Cen-

The Tiernan Center
seats 8,100 people
and is the
fifth-largest high
school gymnasium in
the country.
The Tiernan Center opened in
1985 and became the home court
for IU East basketball in 2007.
The Red Wolves have a 31-12 re-
cord in four seasons at the Tiernan
Center, including a 28-7 mark over
the last three seasons.
IU East has access to a private
locker room on the northwest
side of the facility, giving the Red
Wolves’ players and coaches a true
“home court” environment.
IU East conducts daily workouts
in a full-court practice gymnasium
on the north side of the Tiernan
Center facility.
The Richmond High School Tier-
nan Center is located at 380 Hub
Etchison Parkway in Richmond,
just a few miles from the IU East
campus.

It’s a different year. It’s a
different team.
Different, of course, can
mean better.
The 2011-12 Indiana
University East men’s bas-
ketball team definitely is
different from the one that
went 23-10, won a share of
the Kentucky Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference regular
season title and advanced
to the NAIA Division II
Men’s Basketball National
Championship in 2010-11.
The Red Wolves lost three
starters, including the
program’s career scoring leader, Tyler Rigby, and four-
year letterwinner Brent Burris.
However, the Red Wolves also return three double-
digit scorers, some markedly improved returnees,
and newcomers recruited specifically to fit IU East’s
efficient offense and versatile defense.
It will be a challenge to match the accomplishments
of the 2010-11 Red Wolves.
But the ingredients are there to do even better.
“It’s a different year, a different team,” IU East
coach Mark Hester said amidst preparations for the
program’s fifth NAIA season.
“This team has to create its own identity, and that
will only come through playing games and being suc-
cessful.”
The rosterIU East returns nine players who thrived in the Red
Wolves’ efficient system last winter. IU East also
added seven newcomers recruited specifically to fit
the system.
“We will be able to shoot it again, but I don’t think
scoring will be our calling card,” Hester said. “It was
a new system last year, and now we’ve had another
year to recruit to it and acclimate to it.
Season PreviewWill ‘different’ mean ‘better’ for 2011-12 Red Wolves?

Back row from left: Cody Banet, Huston Clark, Jordan Weatherford, Brandon Muncie, Ian Enriquez, Josh Cook, Bakari Smith, Matt Trimnell and Trevor George
“If you love unselfish, poetic basketball movement of-
fensively, we will be fun to watch. On defense, we will
have more versatility this year with our size.”
Senior David Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove
High School) enters his fourth season as the Red
Wolves’ starting point guard.
Sanders already holds the school record for career
assists. The leadership qualities and intangibles he
brings to the court mean just as much to the Red
Wolves as his 11.5 points per game scoring average.
Sophomore guard Matt Trimnell (Seymour, Ind./Sey-
mour High School) is the top returning scorer. Trim-
nell set an IU East freshman record with 17 points
per game. He becomes the primary scoring option on
this IU East team.
“Dave and Matt are worth the price of admission
themselves if you want to watch guys that are fast
and guys that can shoot it,” Hester said.
Junior guard Marcus Isaac (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue
North Central) played a key role in the Red Wolves’
late-season surge.
Isaac averaged 13.8 points per game and made 50
percent of his 3-point field goals after joining the
team in January.
Senior forward Devon Niehoff (Rushville, Ind./Rush-
ville High School) and senior guard Terry Weathers (East Chicago, Ind./Oakton Community College) both
were key cogs in IU East’s rotation.
Both can defend multiple positions and both can
play inside and outside on offense.
Sophomore forward Josh Cook (Gas City, Ind./Mis-
sissinewa High School) might emerge as the Red
Wolves’ most improved player.
Cook posted impressive per-minute statistics as a
freshman and will play an expanded role as a sopho-
more.
Three more sophomores return with a year of college
basketball experience.
Guard Cody Banet (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Cen-
tral High School) averaged 4.7 points per game and
made some key baskets against tough competition.
Forward Ian Enriquez (Lake Station, Ind./Lake Sta-
tion Edison High School) and guard Bakari Smith
(Indianapolis, Ind./George Washington High School)
both were limited by injuries in 2010-11. Both re-
turn healthy and ready contribute in 2011-12. Both
are lanky, versatile players who can take the floor at
multiple positions.
IU East added another recruiting class filled with
players with winning histories.
The Red Wolves’ seven newcomers combined for a
116-59 record during the 2010-11 season.
Guard Trevor George and forward Jordan Weatherford join the IU East program as juniors after playing for
successful junior college programs.

George (Princeton, Ind./Wabash Valley College)
helped his Wabash Valley College team to a district
championship and a spot in the NJCAA national
tournament last winter. He was the top scorer on
Princeton High School’s 2009 Indiana Class 3A state
championship team. George gives IU East another
physical perimeter player who can guard multiple
positions.
Weatherford (Indianapolis, Ind./North Platte Com-
munity College) helped North Platte advance to the
NJCAA Division I national tournament in 2010. He
made 57 percent of his shots at North Platte and
gives the Red Wolves another big-time athlete on the
front line.
Hester looks for immediate contributions from fresh-
man guards Tyler Fangman and Huston Clark.
Fangman (Fort Mitchell, Ky./Beechwood High School)
was the Northern Kentucky Boys Basketball Coaches
Association Division III Player of the Year as a senior
and could have some big scoring nights for the Red
Wolves as a freshman.
Clark (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo High School) helped Ko-
komo reach the Indiana Class 4A state championship
game in 2011. Hester expects Clark to get better and
better as he transitions from a high school post player
to a college perimeter player.
Another freshman, Brandon Muncie (Indianapolis,
Ind./Lawrence North High School), won an Indiana
track and field state championship in the long jump
and has enormous potential on the basketball court.
Two more freshmen likely will redshirt the 2011-12
season - forward Robby Howell (Sharpsville, Ind./
Tri-Central High School) and guard Bryan Schlatter (Avon, Ind./Avon High School).
The scheduleA national tournament rematch and several more
intriguing matchups highlight the 2011-12 IU East
men’s basketball schedule.
The Red Wolves open the 2011-12 season on Oct.
29 at Indiana Institute of Technology.

David Sanders enters his fourth year as IU East’s starting point guard.
The 31-game schedule includes a Dec. 7 rematch
against Indiana Wesleyan University, the team that
knocked IU East out of the 2011 NAIA Division II
National Championship.
“It’s the hardest schedule we’ve ever had,” Hester
said. “Part of that is a result of having a good team.
When you have a good team, you attract the attention
of other good teams.
“We feel with this schedule we can get better and be
more prepared to play at the national level.”
Notable matchups include:
* Oct. 29 at Indiana Tech. IU East’s season opener
matches two teams that were on the bubble for a bid
to the NAIA Division II National Championship. IU
East got the last at-large bid to the national tourna-
ment. Indiana Tech was one of the first teams left
out.
* Nov. 1 at IUPUI. The contest against the NCAA
Division I Jaguars will count as an exhibition for IU
East.
* Nov. 8 vs. Mount Vernon Nazarene. It’s the first
of eight home games in the Richmond High School
Tiernan Center for IU East.
* Nov. 11 and 12 at the IU/PU Challenge at IU Southeast. The annual event brings the Indiana Uni-
versity and Purdue University NAIA Division II re-
gional campus programs together for a pair of double-
headers. IU East is 4-0 all-time in IU/PU Challenge
contests.
Season Preview... Season Preview, continued from Page 12
* Nov. 18 vs. Ohio State-Mansfield. It’s the home-
coming game for IU East.
* Dec. 7 vs. Indiana Wesleyan. The Red Wolves get
their chance for payback against the Wildcats. Indi-
ana Wesleyan topped IU East 95-92 in the opening
round of the 2011 NAIA Division II National Champi-
onship.
* Dec. 29 and 30 at the University of Dubuque Holi-day Tournament. It’s a homecoming trip for IU East
assistant coach Tyler Daugherty, who was one of the
top scorers in Dubuque history.
* Jan. 10 vs. Asbury University. The Eagles handed
the Red Wolves their only home loss of the 2010-11
season.
* Jan. 19 at Mountain State. The Cougars were the
NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Champion-
ship runners-up in 2010-11.
* Feb. 16 vs. IU Southeast. It’s the home finale for
IU East against an opponent that has won at least a
share of the last four KIAC regular season titles.
The KIAC tournament starts Feb. 25 with quarterfinal
games at campus sites. The tournament semifinals
and finals will be played Feb. 27 and 28 at Berea
College.
IU East will play six games against teams that re-
ceived votes in the final NAIA Division II Men’s Bas-
ketball Top 25 Poll of the 2010-11 regular season.
Continued on Page 14
“The great thing is, when you talk about nationally
relevant programs in this area, we are in that conver-
sation,” Hester said. “We want to play better teams
to improve our strength of schedule, and they want to
play us to increase theirs.”
The goalsIU East came up just short in the KIAC tournament
championship game and its opening game at the
NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball National Tourna-
ment last year, but the Red Wolves gained lots of
respect in those near-misses.
That respect translated to IU East placing second in
the KIAC preseason poll and 21st in the NAIA Divi-
sion II Men’s Basketball Preseason Poll.
“If we do have preseason accolades, they are based
on last year - not this year - so they mean nothing to
this team,” Hester said.
The Red Wolves had few specific goals last year - just
a mission to get better every day.
The mantra is even less specific this year.
A different motto for a new year, a new team.
“We are focusing on doing things right. Not the end
result,” Hester said. “We know if we do things right
the majority of the time - or preferably all of the time
- the end result will take care of itself.”

Coach Mark Hester is in
his fifth year at the helm
of the Indiana University
East Red Wolves athletic
program.
Hester serves as IU
East’s athletic director
and men’s basketball
coach.
Hester led IU East’s transition from club sports to
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics
(NAIA) membership in 2007. IU East has grown from
three varsity sports in 2007 to 12 varsity sports for
the 2011-12 school year.
Hester oversees the largest NAIA athletic department
in the Indiana University system.
Hester quickly put together an exciting team for IU
East’s first NAIA basketball season in 2007-08. IU
East finished second in the nation with 92.6 points
per game. IU East also led the nation with 22.1 as-
sists per game. IU East was third in the nation in
3-point field goals per game and fourth in the nation
in blocks per game. The foundation for a success-
ful intercollegiate men’s basketball program was in
place.
Hester led IU East to one of the biggest turnarounds
in the NAIA during the 2008-09 season. The Red
Wolves finished 23-9. IU East’s 14-win improve-
ment was the second-best turnaround in the NAIA.
The Red Wolves received votes in the NAIA Top 25
Coaches poll, the first IU East team to do so. IU East
finished second in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Ath-
letic Conference regular season standings. The Red
Wolves also finished second in the KIAC tournament
- just one win away from advancing to the NAIA
National Championships.
Hester’s 2008-09 team also earned recognition for
its off-court accomplishments. IU East received the
Buffalo Funds Five Star Award for Division II men’s
basketball. The award honors teams committed to
the NAIA Champions of Character program’s five
core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, ser-
vant leadership and sportsmanship.
The Red Wolves continued to earn respect at the
national level during the 2009-10 season. IU East
received votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches Poll
throughout the first half of the season. The Red
Wolves defeated a team ranked the NAIA Top 25
Coaches Poll for the first time when they beat then-
No. 3 Indiana University Southeast on Feb. 20.
Hester guided the Red Wolves to a banner year in
2010-11. IU East went 23-10 and won a share of
the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
regular season championship for the first time. The
Red Wolves capped the season with the program’s
first trip to the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball
National Championship. IU East also won the Buf-
falo Funds Five Star Award for Division II men’s
basketball for the second time in three years.
Hester also served as the Red Wolves’ track and field
coach during the 2009-10 school year. IU East’s

Hester came to IU East from Bethel College in McK-
enzie, Tenn. Hester spent six years with the men’s
basketball team at Bethel, serving as the assistant
coach, head junior varsity coach, intramural director
and instructor. Bethel made it to the NAIA Division
II National Tournament and advanced to the “Sweet
16” in 2002. Bethel had winning seasons from
2001-2006.
Hester is originally from Glasgow, Ky. He is a 1992
graduate of Barren County High School. He earned
a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from
Western Kentucky University. Hester received his
Master of Arts in Education from Bethel College in
2003. He is currently pursuing a second masters
degree in Sports Management from the United States
Sports Academy.
Hester was part of the Western Kentucky University
Hilltopper basketball program for two seasons. WKU
won Sun Belt Conference Championships and earned
berths to the NCAA Tournament in 1994 and 1995.
He served as an assistant boys basketball coach for
Warren East High School under legendary Coach
Tommy Compton. Hester has also worked as a finan-
cial representative for National City Corporation in
Lexington, Ky., where he resided until 2000.
Hester and his wife, Rebeckah, and their son, Bryson,
reside in Richmond.

a shot and he usu-
ally makes it count. He
proved it during his bas-
ketball career at the Uni-
versity of Dubuque. And
he is proving it again at
Indiana University East.
Daugherty is set to
begin his second season
with the IU East men’s basketball program. He also
coached the Red Wolves track and field program and
oversaw the school’s Graf Recreation Center during
the 2010-11 school year.
Daugherty is a native of Bellevue, Iowa. He holds un-
dergraduate and graduate degrees from the University
of Dubuque (Iowa).
“I wanted to coach, and the (position) asked for three
things - basketball, track and running a recreation
center - where I had experience and passion,” Daugh-
erty said.
“Sports is my passion. I don’t see myself doing any-
thing else. It’s what I want to do and what I’ve want-
ed to do since I was a young kid. It’s always been a
part of my life.”
Daugherty previously served as an assistant coach for
the University of Dubuque men’s basketball team and
as boys track and field coach at Bellevue (Iowa) High
School during the 2009-10 school year.
Daugherty helped Dubuque, an NCAA Division III pro-
gram, to an 18-9 record during the 2009-10 season.
It was the school’s best season in almost 20 years.
“I’m a younger coach, so I can relate to the athletes.
I’ve been on the floor, been on the field recently,”
Daugherty said.
“I can offer another view of the game, how to get
better and prepare.”
Daugherty enjoyed a productive playing career for
Dubuque’s basketball team. He started at guard dur-
ing all four of his college seasons. He led the Iowa
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in scoring as a
junior and as a senior.
He finished his career as Dubuque’s all-time leader
in career 3-pointers made with 255. He is second
on Dubuque’s all-time career assists list with 354
assists and fifth on the career scoring list with 1,724
points.
He was a two-time D3hoops.com All-West Region
selection. He was Dubuque’s Athlete of the Year as a
senior.

A day-by-day look back at the 2010-11 Indiana
University East men’s basketball season. The Red
Wolves went 23-10 and won a share of the Kentucky
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season
championship. IU East capped the season with the
program’s first trip to the NAIA Division II Men’s Bas-
ketball National Championship.
October 30 - The opener that never happened.Matt Trimnell scored 13 points and grabbed 12
rebounds in his college debut as IU East made its
first public appearance of the 2010-11 season with
a 93-58 homecoming win against Temple Baptist
College. The NAIA later ruled Temple Baptist a non-
countable opponent, so the game was wiped from the
Red Wolves’ record books.
November 2 - Big Shot BanetFreshman Cody Banet knocked down a 3-pointer with
0.6 seconds remaining to lift the IU East to a 115-
113 double-overtime win against Ohio Christian Uni-
versity in what was retroactively the season opener for
the Red Wolves. Banet’s shot lifted the Red Wolves
to a win in the program’s first double-overtime game.
“This is best feeling I’ve had in a long time,” said
Banet. “I’ve never hit a shot like that, not in a big
game like this.” IU East got a win against a team that
went 28-8 the previous season - but only after yield-
ing a 19-point second-half lead. The Red Wolves’
Tyler Rigby posted a career-high 36 points.
November 6 - No scoreboard, no problemIU East improved to 2-0 with an 81-73 victory at
Union College (Ky.). IU East led by as much as 23 in
the second half.
November 9 - Winning a dogfightIU East continued the best start in the program’s
NAIA history with a 118-95 win against the Univer-
sity of Michigan-Dearborn. IU East went on a 16-0
run that took just three minutes to build a 49-29
lead late in the first half.
November 12 - Up to the ChallengeIU East stayed unbeaten with a 106-95 win against
Purdue University North Central on the opening day
of the IU/PU Challenge at Purdue University Calu-
met. Tyler Rigby matched his career high with 36
points and Matt Trimnell added 22.
November 13 - Comeback winIU East won at Purdue University Calumet 96-90
in overtime to conclude the IU/PU Challenge. Matt
Trimnell scored a career-high 29 points, including
a pair of 3-pointers in the final three minutes that
helped IU East erase a six-point deficit and another
trey in overtime that put IU East ahead for good.
November 16 - Seventh heavenTyler Rigby scored 27 points to lead IU East to
90-84 win against Wittenberg University. The 7-0
Red Wolves extended the best start in the program’s
NAIA history against a Wittenberg program that has
more wins than any other program in the NCAA’s
Division III.
November 19 - First lossIU East fell 85-82 against Huntington University in
a matchup of unbeatens in the opening round of the
Davenport University Panther Invitational. The Red

Wolves had two shots to tie the game in the final 10
seconds but missed a pair of 3-pointers.
November 20 - Bouncing backIU East concluded the Davenport University Panther
Invitational with an 88-73 win against Calumet Col-
lege of St. Joseph in the tournament’s third-place
game. Brent Burris and Tyler Rigby led IU East with
19 points apiece.
November 27 - Boarding BishopsIU East fell 72-64 against Ohio Wesleyan University
in the opening round of the Mike Rokicki Commu-
nity Versus Cancer Challenge at DePauw University.
OWU outrebounded IU East 50-35 - resulting in a
44-28 advantage in points in the paint - and went on
a timely 9-1 run in the last three minutes to put the
game away.
November 28 - Consolation prizeIU East beat Rockford College 87-67 in the third-
place game of the Mike Rokicki Community Versus
Cancer Challenge at DePauw University. Matt Trimnell
scored all eight points in IU East’s 8-0 run that gave
the Red Wolves an 80-63 lead with 4:07 remaining.
Trimnell finished with a game-high 23 points and
nine rebounds. He represented IU East on the all-
tournament team.
November 29 - Closer than it lookedIU East dropped a 103-80 decision against NCAA
Division I opponent IUPUI. The game was considered
an exhibition for NAIA Division II No. 26 IU East.
The Jaguars finished the game with a 20-9 surge to
make the final score somewhat deceiving.
December 4 - Conference openerIU East opened KIAC play with a 78-69 win against
Cincinnati Christian University. Both teams entered
the game ranked in the NAIA’s top five in points per
game at well over 90 points per contest, but IU East
used a deliberate approach to slow down the high-
scoring Eagles. Josh Cook came off of the bench and
sparked the Red Wolves with 10 of his career-high
14 points in the first half.
December 6 - Rising in the rankingsIU East is 20th in the NAIA Division II Men’s Bas-
ketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll. It’s the first top 25
ranking for any Red Wolves team.
December 7 - Exhibition lossIU East fell 102-71 at NCAA Division II power
Northern Kentucky University. The game was consid-
ered an exhibition for IU East.
December 10 - A cold KnightIU East fell 78-69 against Marian University on the
opening night of the Bethel College Gates Automo-
tive Classic. The difference: IU East had a six-min-
ute stretch with one field goal late in the first half
and an eight-minute stretch with one field goal to
start the second half. The Red Wolves also made just
1 of 19 shots from 3-point range.
December 11 - ‘Biggest win by far’Matt Trimnell scored a career-high 35 points and
David Sanders hit a shot in the lane with less than
three seconds remaining to lift IU East to a 94-92
overtime win at 35th-ranked Bethel College on the
final day of the Bethel College Gates Automotive

coach Mark Hester said. “To walk around and see the
tradition here and the (three) national championships
they’ve won, to come out here on this floor and win is
really big.”
December 17 - Lanced by GraceIU East fell 96-67 against 17th-ranked Grace College
in the opening game of the Malone University Com-
fort Inn Tournament. Grace outrebounded IU East
47-18, shot 62 percent from the field and enjoyed a

the second half to go ahead 72-63 with 2:45 re-
maining.

Technology. The Red Wolves led by as much as 16 in

versity Southeast. IU Southeast sank 63 percent of
its field goals, including 73 percent of its two-point
field goal attempts and 15 of 30 3-point attempts.

career rebounds during the game. “I would rather
have the win,” Burris said, “but it’s nice to have a
place in the record books.”

to lead six IU East players in double figures as the

regular season title with an 87-81 league win at
Cincinnati Christian University. The Red Wolves got
all they could handle from the Eagles, who whittled a
15-point IU East lead to five in the second half. Tyler
Rigby made sure IU East stayed on course for a title
shot by scoring 11 of his 24 points in the final seven
minutes.
February 19 - A banner dayIU East celebrated Senior Day for Tyler Rigby and
Brent Burris with a 101-96 win against No. 17
Indiana University Southeast. The 27th-ranked Red
Wolves forced a three-way tie for the KIAC regular
season championship. It’s the first regular season
conference title for IU East’s basketball program. IU
East also earned the program’s second win against
a team ranked in the NAIA Division II Top 25. David
Sanders delivered an emotional pregame message
about “doing it for the seniors” and then backed it
up with a career-high 32 points. “He gave us a little
speech about doing it for the seniors, and he kept his
word,” Burris said. “We owe him.”
February 22 - Secret weapon strikes againMarcus Isaac scored 21 points off the bench to lead
No. 2 seed IU East to a 91-68 win against No. 7
seed Cincinnati Christian University in a KIAC quar-
terfinal in the Earlham College Athletics and Wellness
Center.
February 24 - On to the finalsIU East advanced to the KIAC tournament champion-
ship game with an 87-63 win against Berea College.
Five players scored in double figures for IU East, led
by Marcus Isaac and Brent Burris with 17 points
apiece.
February 26 - Just shortJazzmarr Ferguson scored nine of his 31 points in
the last two minutes as 21st-ranked Indiana Univer-
sity Southeast held off 24th-ranked IU East 91-83
in the KIAC tournament championship game at the
IU Southeast Activities Building. Ferguson scored
the last nine points for the Grenadiers after the Red
Wolves had grabbed an 83-82 lead with just over
two minutes remaining. “That’s why (Ferguson) is
the conference player of the year,” said Hester. Tyler
Rigby scored 17 of his 30 points in the second half
to lead a determined IU East comeback bid.
March 2 - We’re in!IU East learned it will face Indiana Wesleyan Uni-
versity in the opening round of the NAIA Division II
Men’s Basketball National Championship in Point
Lookout, Mo. It’s the first nationals bid in IU East’s
NAIA basketball history. The Red Wolves joined the
NAIA in 2007. The Red Wolves nabbed the last
at-large bid in the 32-team field based on the final
NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball Coaches Poll. The
Red Wolves were ranked 23rd in the poll, also an-
nounced March 2.
March 9 - So close!IU East fell 95-92 against No. 9 seed Indiana Wes-
leyan University in the opening round of the NAIA
Division II Men’s Basketball National Championship.
The Red Wolves had a chance to force overtime, but

we were one of the better teams here,” said Hester.
“This was the best game of the day played here by
far and a great game to be a part of, though I would
have much rather won the game.” A reporter who
covers two-time NAIA Division II national champion
Oregon Institute of Technology said it was the best
performance he had seen from a team making its first
appearance in the NAIA Division II Men’s Basketball
National Championship. The game featured 13 ties
and 17 lead changes. Neither team led by more than
six.
April 8 - Character counts!IU East is recognized as the 2010-11 Buffalo Funds
Five Star Champions of Character Award for NAIA
Division II men’s basketball. IU East’s men’s basket-
ball program also won the honor during the 2008-09
season. “To be recognized as the Champions of Char-
acter ‘national champion’ in sportsmanship and com-
munity service twice in three years speaks volumes
about the players in our program,” said Hester.
Spring/Summer - They made the gradeBrent Burris and Devon Niehoff earned Daktronics-
NAIA Scholar-Athlete recognition, the NAIA an-
nounced March 14. Burris and Niehoff are the first
student-athletes from the IU East men’s basketball
program to earn Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete rec-
ognition. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete
must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5
on a 4.0 scale and must have junior academic status.
