The design philosophy of the symbol is derivedfrom the Devanagari script, a traditional scriptdeeply rooted in our Indian culture. Thesymbol also seamlessly integrates the Latin
script which is widely used around the world. This amalgamation traverses boundaries acrosscultures giving it a universal identity, at thesame time symbolizing our cultural values andethos at a global platform.
Simplicity of the visual form and imagerycreates a deep impact on the minds of thepeople. And makes it easy to recognize, recalland represent by all age groups, societies, religions and cultures.

The symbol is designed using the Devanagariletter Ra and Roman capital letter R. Theletters are derived from the word Rupiah inHindi and Rupees in English both denote the
currency of India. The derivation of letters fromthese words conveys the association of thesymbol with currency rupee.
The symbol straightforwardly communicatesthe message of currency for both Indian and
foreign nationals. In other words, a directrelationship is established between the symboland the rupee.

The use of Shiro Rekha (the horizontal topline) in Devanagari script is unique to India.Devanagari script is the only script whereletters hang from the top line and does not
sit on a baseline. The symbol preserves thisunique and essential feature of our Indianscript which is not seen in any other scriptsin the world. It also clearly distinguishes itselffrom other symbols and establishes a sign ofIndian origin. It explicitly states the Indianess
of the symbol.

The horizontal lines also denote the arithmeticsign equal to. For a common man, a quickindicator of his/her countries economy is thecomparison of currency values. In other words,
a countries economy is defined with respect tothe currency value.
One always compares once economy (currencyvalue) with the other nations currency, it isalways relative to the other. The arithmetic
sign denotes that relationship of comparison ofcurrency values. The equality sign also signifiesa balanced economy, our economy should besecured and stable forever.
