    A large number of women around the world have set up and managed their own

     businesses. It was not easy for these women to succeed in business. They had to

    face a lot of difficulties and overcome a number of barriers to become

    successful in their ventures. They had to deal with discrimination and withstand

    the skepticism of society, and also put in more effort than men to prove their

    credibility to others.

    Studies have revealed that women focus more on intuition and relationships for

    Telefilms. kta #apoor is the daughter of $eetendra, the legendary Indian actor

    and Shobha #apoor. The actor Tusshar #apoor is her brother. kta kapoor is the

    former student of )ombay Scottish School and +ithibai ollege.

    !er family wanted her to enroll in an +)A program but she was not interested

    in a theoretical education and had no clue about what she wanted to do in her

    life.

    -I was fat, lazy and absolutely aimless in life. I had no direction or focus. I didnot believe in ecellence or hard work/ she said. !er only interest was watching

    television, which she did whenever she could. She says she feels guilty about

    disappointing her parents, but was not able to do much to rectify the situation.

    0n completing her higher secondary education, she *oined 1A2 productions, an

    advertising agency, and worked as an assistant model coordinator for a short

    tried her luck attending the shoots of #ailash Surendranath, the ad and feature

    filmmaker 7 but failed.

    Then with the advice and financial help of her father kta started off with her

    own business of T97serial production by the name of )ala*i reations. She

    made si pilots and three episodes but to her bad luck all of them were re*ected.After great hard work she became successful in creating the serial !um

    :aanch .ver since she has been working industriously acquiring the skills

    required to succeed

    kta #apoor has produced and co7produced many soap operas, television series

    and films. !er most popular television endeavor has been #yunki Saas )hi

    #abhi )ahu Thi, which started airing on STA2 :lus in the year ;444. She has

     produced more than eight television soaps for STA2 :lus.

      I wasn3t much of dreamer initially. I started dreaming only

    when my work started happening. @hen I was &?, all I thought about was

    eating good food, basically *ust relaing. I was like other youngsters who arelooking to make around ;4,444 a month, so that I could have a happy fun

    disco7pubbing lifestyle. @hen I was & we planned our venture. +y dad said

    this is a big opportunity to put a lot of money in this company. That was in

    &''B that we set up )ala*i Telefilms. The company was losing money

     because I had made some pilots and they didn3t go on air. +y pilots were ok,

    not really amazing. +y first si pilots were not approved. +oney got

     blocked. +y dad3s career at the time was not peakingC they were his last few

    acting years. +oney was important to us and here I was losing more money.I kept telling myself D@hat have I doneE I3m not good for this. I3m not good

    for anything in life3.

    First breakthrough…  I decided I had to do something. +y mind used to constantly

    think of ideas. I used to think I3ll tell it this way, I3ll tell it that way.

    Sometimes I3d come up with concepts, sometimes with stories. I knew we

    had lost a lot of money. I had to do something and win back our money. Sothat was the time I had my first dream. I *ust wanted to get back ?4 lakhs that

    had gone down and wanted to make a hit T9 show. I always dreamt in

    installments. I never dreamt at that time that I would start a big company. I

    never even could dream of that. It was *ust too far. As I said I had so many

    ideas in my mind, every week I had a new idea. I had only two lakhs left.

    That3s when we made !um :aanch. Two channels vied for it and eventually

    it came on one of them. !um :aanch was smooth sailing. )y the eighth or 

    ninth episode it was a hitF Then three months later when +ano Ga Ha +anowas aired even that was a big hit.

    Dreams give you hope and if hope is alive everything is alive… !owever, again my career slowed down for a long time.

    That3s when I was hoping another show of mine would be on air. +y friend

    Savree, now wife of Sameer Hair, met me. She told me her channel had big

     plans. She said if you can manage to make your show #yunki Saas )hi

    #abhi )ahu Thi popular and match its T2:s to your show #oshish k 

    Aasha, Sameer will show you the stars. I remember I was walking up

    Tirupati and praying to =od that #yunki... becomes a hit. 0f course the

    thought of its T2:s matching #oshish seemed impossible. )ut I was hoping.

    I was dreaming. I looked up to the skies and kept telling =od D:lease please

    =od if this show gets high T2:s I3ll get a lot of work3. It happenedF

    #yunki... became a big hit. reams give you hope and if hope is alive,

    everything is alive. In ;444, I had this dream that we should have a foreign

    investor investing in the company. If that happened I knew I3d be able to

    make % to shows at one time. @hen later we got foreign investors I was

    ecstatic. +y dream had come trueF

    Support unlimited…

      All this has been possible because of the support that I

    got. +y mum, who took over with me when things were going bad in the

    company. +y dad who gave us the initial investment and was the face of the

    company... mum and I at that time didn3t look like people who could do the

     businessF +y brother Tusshar has been a constant support to me. Also,

    #ishen :remnarayan, my dad3s friend, who at a time when I was not getting

    a chance to make any inroads in the industry gave me a lot of help. Adhikari brothers who actually shot, after being producers themselves, for me because

    they are my dad3s friends. They actually directed an episode of +ano Ga Ha

    +ano for me which could be aired. That time there was this kind of 

    camaraderie in the industry among producers. I credit my friends, my family

    and of course my team. There are four others I3d like to mention. Subhash

    =oel who gave me my first big break. And eventually #unal asgupta,

    Sameer Hair and Shaila*a #e*riwal.

    Future Dreams…  +y dreams have always been work7related. They have

    always been achievable. I wouldn3t cry if they didn3t happen. )ut I believe in

    striving hard to achieve them. 0nce I have a set of dreams before me, I don3t

    look beyond them. I try to reach these dreams, make them reality and then

    move on to the net set of dreams. As far as my future plans go, currently we

    are making software in Indonesia and ubai, but I want them to become as

     big as our +umbai office. @e are starting a South channel soon. I want us to

     become big in events and reality T9. This is one set of dreams. The net setwhich, of course, I3ll take up after these, is international presence of Indian

    television, have Jatin American tie7ups, make !ollywood films. I dream of 

    making a company which is creatively independent with the best creative

    talent in the country all housed under one banner 5smiles6.

    !oping "ith inse#urities…

    I believe that anything that goes up has to come down. )ut I always remember

    what my dad said< DThis too shall pass3. =ood, bad, ugly...everything will pass.

    Although these are strong logics when things happen to you they do affect you.

    )ut life is after all a lot of eperiences put into one. Any kind of shakeup is an

    eperience that you will cherish all your life. As far as insecurity goes, I am

    quite insecure as a person. +y insecurity fuels a sense of determination, a sense

    of passion and that passion is what takes you forward. I try to work on my

    insecurities and make it work for me. The base is insecurity

    weekly episodes were the order of the day. @hen kta first made a foray into

    television software development, most of the serials were telecast on a weekly

     basis...

    En!e5ene6+,l S!7lekta was a completely hands7on manager. She was closely involved with every

    aspect of her serials, be it the script, cast, sets, the dress and make7up of the

    characters, or the marketing of serials. As the creative head at )TJ, she

     provided all the story ideas.

    She did not actually write the scripts of the serials but supervised a team ofassociate creative directors and eecutive producers, who wrote them.

    of an ogre and most of her subordinates were reluctant to approach her cabin...
