TILES STORAGE
Avoid exposing tiles to direct UV radiation
and do not leave the material
OUTDOORS. The tiles placed on A-frames or
packed in crates must be stored indoors.
Slabs should be stored in a manner to prevent
warping, use at least two support beams.
INSTALLATION GUIDELINES
Preparing the screed
The supporting surfaces or foundations
(screed) must be absolutely dry (residual
moisture should not exceed 2,5% measured
using carbide hygrometer), stable,
solid , resistant to compression, sufficient-
ly level and free of dust, grease, wax,
paint, dismantling agents and anything
else that could impair adhesion.
The maturity of screeds is calculated as about
6-8 days per cm of thickness, unless special
quick-drying cements are used. Any pre-
existing concrete, tiled, ceramic or marble
foundations must be solid, free of cracks, well
attached to the base, resistant to the
expected loads and complete with
adequate structural joints.
For further information about any different
type of screed please contact our
commercial offices.
How and when to lay the tiles
The environmental temperature must be
between +5° and +30°C; the residual
humidity of the foundations (screed) must
be maximum 2,5%; the difference in even-
ness of the foundations must be no greater
than 3 mm/Lin m. A diamond disc or dia-
mond water cutter is required to cut tiles. We
recommend positioning large-sized tiles with
the help of a hand suction lifter. In order to
ensure contacts with the foundations, it is
advisable to tap tiles with a rubber hammer
to avoid the formation of air bubbles and
empty spaces.
A good laying and the correct alignment of
the tiles requires the use of open and uniform
joints using specially made nylon spacers.
Recommended adhesives
For Stone Italiana slabs and tiles the traditional
laying using sands and cement is not advised.
It is recommended to use C2F class S1
adhesives (EN: 12004, EN: 12002), such as
Granirapid-Mapei. For the installation of large
sizes (from 60x60 cm up) and in hot weather
conditions it is recommended to use a C2FTE
class S2 adhesive (EN: 12004, EN: 12002), such
as Elastorapid-Mapei. We suggest the use of
a serrated spatula to apply the adhesive, in a
way that the quantity extended onto the
screed ensures coverage/soaking of at least
80% of the Stone Italiana product. For the
laying of large sizes (from 60x60 cm up) we
recommend the double spreading system.
Stone Italiana tiles are supplied finished and
ready to be laid. They are calibrated,
squared, polished and chamfered. Stone
Italiana materials have minimum water
absorption qualities because they are
manufactured using high pressure vacuum
industrial procedures. This results in a high level
of compactness, accentuated by the
minimal percentage of structural polyester
resin subjected to hot catalysis. Their com-
pactness and minimal water absorption
means that, the traditional system sand and
cement (mortar) installation method for Stone
Italiana - requiring the use of large quantities
of water - is not recommended. If the water
cannot escape from the screed or from the
joints, the tiles could warp uncontrollably.
For INTERNAL floorings and wall claddings
we recommend the two-components adhe-
sives (Granirapid by Mapei and/or
Elastorapid by Mapei), composed by compo-
nent A (bag of powder) and component B
(drum of latex).
5
The laying mixture is obtained by mixing
A+B with a mechanical agitator paying
attention to pour the powder into the latex
and not vice versa:
for Granirapid 25 kg component A with 5,5
component B,
for Elastorapid 25 kg component A with
6,25 component B.
For special uses or on particular screeds, we
recommend a high performance adhesive
such as Keralistic T by Mapei (two-compo-
nents polyurethane adhesive). This allows
adhesion to PVC rubber, metal, wood, etc.
especially in situations of humidity, with the
use of large sizes and in environments with
wide ranges of temperature (with conse-
quent risks of expansion), such as in sunlight
exposed areas. The adhesive is made by
pouring the hardener B into the mixture and
then stirring with a mechanical mixer to
obtain a perfectly homogeneous paste.
Please follow Mapei technical and safety
instructions for the use of products.
Visit www.mapei.com
The use of Stone Italiana materials
OUTDOORS is not recommended except
for some limited cases: ventilated wall
claddings using proper mechanical
anchoring systems.
Use of adhesives
A correct use of the adhesive ensures the
good bonding of Stone Italiana materials.
We recommend applying the adhesive with a
serrated spatula, ensuring that the amount
spread onto the foundation (screed) covers
at least 80% of Stone Italiana tiles.
For laying larger sizes (from 60x60 cm up)
and for areas subject to intensive use (hospi-
tals, shopping centres, etc ), we recom-
mend the double spreading system,
(adhesive spread also on the back of the tile)
which guarantees the soaking of 100% of
the surface. Once tiles are laid, it is advis-
able to put a 18/20 kg weight on top of
the 4 corners of tiles for few hours, until
adhesive gets hard. This will avoid the
curling of the corners.
To use the adhesive effectively, the tiles
dosages and instructions must be followed.
The size of the serrated spatula should be
chosen according to the size of the tiles and
the state of the foundation (screed). We rec-
ommend the spreading of a small quantity of
adhesive at a time, making sure that the tiles
are laid within the laying time of the adhe-
sive.
Instructions for use spatula

How to calculate kits
(Granirapid - Elastorapid)
The computation of the kits
Granirapid Grey A+B and Elastorapid Grey
A+B is as follows:
(sqm x 7 kg) : 25 kg
sqm = laying surface
7 Kg/sqm = average adhesive consumption
25 Kg = weight for bags Granirapid Grey /
Elastorapid Grey
The result rounding up is the equivalent to the
numbers of the needed kits (A+B)
I.e.: laying area = 150 sqm
(150 sqm x 7 kg) : 25 kg
=
No. 42 kits (A+B) Granirapid Grey/Elastorapid
Grey
A kit is composed by 1 bag 25.0 kg (A)
+ one drum latex 5.5 kg (B) Granirapid Grey
+ one drum latex 6.25 kg (B) Elastorapid Grey
Please note that a kit is composed by: 1 bag
25.0 kg + 1 drum latex 5.5 kg
How to calculate kits for (Keralastic T)
The computation of the kits Keralastic T
is as follows:
(sqm x 7 kg) : 5/10 kg
sqm = laying surface
6 Kg/sqm = average adhesive consumption
5/10 Kg = weight for plastic drum Keralastic T
Joint fillers
Installation of floor tiles without joints
is to be utterly avoided.
The width of the joints depends on the size
of the tiles according to European Standards
( minimum values from 3 to 6 mm):
• 3 mm for: 30x30 cm, 40x40 cm
• 4 mm for: 30x60 cm, 60x60 cm
• 6 mm for: 30x120 cm, 60x120 cm,
120x120 cm
Joint fillers could be made by using high
performance cementitious mortar ready to
use, in the desired colours (such as Ultracolor
Plus by Mapei). It is forbidden to use epoxy
joints. Here following the consumption
quantity:
• Sizes: 30x30 cm and 30x60 cm
0.50 Kg/smq
• Sizes: 40x40 cm, 60x60 cm, 30x120 cm
and 60x120 cm
0.30Kg/smq
• Sizes: 120x120 cm
0.20 Kg/smq
Please follow Mapei technical and safety
instructions for the use of products.
Visit www.mapei.com
Expansion joints
Expansion joints must be done once the floor-
ing is installed, dividing up the flooring area
into 4x4 lm squares.
It is advisable to leave joints wide enough
to allow filling with one-component silicon
sealant (Mapesil AC by Mapei) around
the perimeter and at walls, pillars and
steps etc.
Floor tiles must be laid minimum 7 mm
detached from perimetrical walls. The
installation of Stone Italiana materials
outdoors is not recommended.
Please follow Mapei technical and safety
instructions for the use of products.

Structural joints
Structural joints must be respected, clearly
visible on the screed and specified in the
project; in new constructions they must be
done in the areas where ground settlement
took place and “natural” openings occured
throughout the years.
Installation in areas subject to direct sun
radiation
For those areas subject to considerable sunlight
exposures (i.e.: through windows, direct
sunlight) provide STOPSOL (UV BLOCK) glass,
and it is necessary to use a R2T (EN:12004)
adhesive, such as Keralastic T-Mapei, up to
the fractionation (dilatation joint) of the area
not exposed to the sun. The use of an
adhesive such as Keralastic T is recommended
for those specific situations where the
engineered quartz is installed in demanding
conditions and on special supports.
Please follow Mapei technical and safety
instructions for the use of the above mentioned
adhesives. Visit www.mapei.com
Underfloor heating
In floors with underfloor heating the biggest
size usable is 60x60cm and the correct
adhesive type to be used is C2FTE class S2
(EN: 12004, EN: 12002), as Elastorapid-Mapei
(otherwise Kerabond T + Isolastic). Should
there be a floor area receiving direct sunlight
the correct adhesive type to use is R2T (EN:
12004) as Keralastic T – Mapei.
The use of Stone Italiana materials OUTDOORS
is not recommended, unless as ventilated all
cladding with mechanical anchoring.

in high-trafficated areas
Products needed:
STONE CLEANER (neutral detergent),
STONE TILE CLEANER (slightly acidic
detergent).
• STONE CLEANER
Dilution Ratio: 30 g (3 tablespoonfuls) of
product to 5 L.water
Coverage: 25 to 35 sqm (at the above
recommended dilution ratio)
• STONE TILE CLEANER
Dilution Ratio: 1 part product and 2 parts
water (1 L. to 2 L. water)
Coverage: 70 to 100 sqm (at the above rec-
ommended dilution ratio).
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
• Clean the surface with the neutral
detergent STONE CLEANER or slightly acidic
cleaner STONE TILE CLEANER, at the
recommended dilution ratio.
• Always rinse thoroughly after washing.
IMPORTANT NOTE
There are many different products for the
initial cleaning and regular maintenance
of the floorings available on the market,
but not all of them are suitable. Avoid all
basic and alkaline products, those containing
waxes or solvents, ammonia, sodium
hypochlorite, Marseille soap or silicones
(usually referred to as Polysiloxane on the
product labels).
If, due to very high traffic, the colour of the
flooring appears to be changing to a greyish
tone (in the case of light coloured surfaces),
we recommend that you alternate washing
the floor with STONE CLEANER, a neutral-ph
detergent, and STONE TILE CLEANER, at the
recommended dilution ratios, and then
proceed to rinse. By using STONE TILE
CLEANER and STONE CLEANER in turns, you
will be able to keep your floor clean
effortlessly.
NOTE FOR HARD-TO-CLEAN MATERIALS
In case of light-coloured flooring materials, it
may be necessary to clean them periodically
with STONE TILE CLEANER undiluted; always
rinse thoroughly.
HOW TO SOLVE
COMMON PROBLEMS AT JOBSITE
1) Hazy surface when viewed
with the light coming from behind.
Floor gets stained easily
In most cases, this type of problem is due to
the use of unsuitable cleaners that leave a
thin coat on the surface, which gets dirty
more easily than the surface itself.
Product needed: STONE TILE CLEANER
(slightly acidic detergent)
Dilution Ratio: undiluted
Coverage: 20 to 30 sqm/L.
Recommended cleaning implements:
Adjustable mop pad holder + soft white mop
pad.
15
CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
• Apply a thin and uniform coat of STONE TILE
CLEANER and leave it on form 15 to 30 minu-
tes, scrubbing the area periodically.
• At the end of this time, rinse thoroughly
with clean water. Repeat the process if
necessary.
2) The colour differs from the original
one and the floor does not clean easily
Generally this problem can be traced to
incorrect or lacking cleaning at the end of
installation. To solve it, please see the
instructions in Section “INITIAL CLEANING
AFTER INSTALLATION”. Alternatively, clean
the surface with STONE TILE CLEANER undilut-
ed and rinse thoroughly with clean water;
then apply a thin coat of JAIPUR STONE WAX
undiluted over a clean and dry surface. Allow
to dry for at least 2 hours before walking on
the floor.

FAQ - STONE ITALIANA TILES - GLOSS AND
TEXTURED
Section IV
Faq – frequently asked questions on
STONE ITALIANA TILES
Is the initial cleaning after installation really
important for STONE ITALIANA quartz-based
materials?
Yes. The initial deep cleaning after installation
is essential for Stone Italiana surfaces. It
affects the performance of the flooring.
How should the floor be cleaned to achieve a
workmanlike result?
To clean the floor properly after installation:
• you should follow attentively Stone Italiana
cleaning and maintenance instructions;
• use a single-brush machine, where possible;
• any residues should be vacuumed, rather
than swept up or dusted;
• the floor must be rinsed with clean water
and any residues must be vacuumed up.
What kind of inconvenience may occur if the
initial cleaning is not performed properly or if
it is not performed at all?
The problems due to an improper initial
cleaning or to the fact that the floor was not
cleaned at all can result in:
• hazy surface, that does not clean easily;
• dull and “washed-out” appearance;
• formation of opaque spots, although the
material is stain-proof;
• hazy appearance when the surface is
viewed with the light coming from behind.
The above problems are all more evident on
matt finishes.
Can it happen that a quartz floor with irregular
textured surface JAIPUR14.15, GRAIN,
ROCFACE appears discoloured after the initial
cleaning, especially along joint lines?
How can this problem be solved?
Yes, this problem can occur and it is mostly
due to the installation process itself. Probably,
the grout used to fill the joints was left on the
floor too long and thus reacted with the
quartz surface.
In this case, after an initial deep cleaning with
STONE TILE CLEANER (or CEMENT REMOVER for
Rocface) you should treat the surface with
JAIPUR STONE PROTECTOR* (*upon demand)
however, this is an uncommon circumstance,
in which the original colour of the surface
needs to be restored.
Once the floor has been treated with JAIPUR
STONE PROTECTOR, we recommend that you
do not apply JAIPUR STONE WAX over it,
because the surface becomes extremely
water repellent, making it difficult to apply
the wax product.
What are your suggestions to solve the
problems caused by an improper initial
cleaning?
Use STONE TILE CLEANER in pure or diluted
form, depending on the amount of residues,
stains and hazy spots (except for materials
containing mother of pearl and marble
inserts, on which you must use STONE
CLEANER). Always rinse thor-oughly after
applying the product.
What is Jaipur Stone Wax intended for?
(for JAIPUR14.15, GRAIN and ROCFACE
finishes only)
JAIPUR STONE WAX is used to level out
irregularities on quartz stone surfaces, without
altering their original appearance. As a result,
a floor protected with JAIPUR STONE WAX will
be easier to clean: it is sufficient to use the
neutral detergent STONE CLEANER instead of
aggressive detergents that might damage
the surface in the long time.
17
Should JAIPUR STONE WAX always be used on
JAIPUR14.15, GRAIN, and ROCFACE floors?
Yes, it must always be used on light-coloured
JAIPUR, GRAIN, LUNARE and ROCFACE
finished floors and it is strongly recommended
for darker shades.
How to remove coloured stains or grease
from the floor?
To remove coloured stains or grease from the
floor, you can use Coloured Stain Remover
and Oil & Grease Remover, both by Faber
Chimica. www.faberchimica.com
What are the criteria for a correct
maintenance of Stone Italiana materials?
To have performed properly the initial
cleaning after installation, following Stone
Italiana instructions, using the detergents
STONE CLEANER and STONE TILE CLEANER
(CEMENT REMOVER for Rocface) and
protecting the surfaces with JAIPUR STONE
WAX where needed (JAIPUR14.15, GRAIN,
ROCFACE).
