ADHESIVESWOOD
SYNTHOS SA grew from the chemical companies:Dwory S.A and Kaucuk a.s. The current name of the company SYNTHOS is a combination of two words of Greek origin - synthesis (combination) and orthos (proper). The nam reflects the mission of the company, which is the production and supply of chemical products for further processing, used first of all to enable the development of our customers. Our name also relates to the nature of operations of the company in the field of chemical synthesis. SYNTHOS S.A. manages production plants in Poland, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and France. The activity of SYNTHOS S.A. concentrates on five main groups of products: synthetic rubbers, styrene plastics, specialist products (acrylic and vinyl dispersion, and latex and dispersion adhesives), plant protection products and liposomes.
Synthos offers adhesives including WOODMAX®(wood adhesives) and PAPERMAX® (paperadhesives).
SYNTHOS S.A. is the largest European manufacturer of synthetic rubber and expandable polystyrene (EPS). Dynamic development of the company in recent years has resulted in us becoming an enterprise which is able to compete with world chemical corporations, launching modern products of top quality.
INTEGRATEDMANAGEMENTSYSTEMSYNTHOS S.A. places particular emphasis oncontinuous improvement of the quality of its productsand fulfilling the growing demands of our customers, therefore we have implemented and have beenimproving our Quality Management System accordingto the requirements of standard EN-ISO 9001:2000.
In order to protect the environment the company has undertaken several pro-ecological initiatives. One of them was implementing and perfecting the Environment Management System according to the requirements of standard EN ISO 14001, which was achieved and confirmed by obtaining the relevant certificates.

APPLICATIONS
Wide range of our adhesives based on modified poly (vinyl acetate) in D1, D2, D3 and D4 water resistance classes allows effortless product match.
TECHNOLOGICAL CENTER
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CENTER
We have our own research center in a form of an application laboratory, in which our experts develop and test new adhesive recipes. It makes it possible to add new products to our portfolio and offer innovative solutions to meet the growing demands of our customers.
We offer adhesives of prime quality, comparable to products of the largest European manufacturers, which has been proven by numerous test carried out by the renowned Polish packaging manufacturers.
Your cooperation is welcome:
• Undertaking joint research projects related to adhesives, decorative and protective products and others
• Developing new adhesive products, tailored to the customer’s requirements
• Assistance in implementations and technical tests of new adhesives
• Support in solving technical problems• Product testing
DURABILITYWOODMAX® products are designed using advanced technologies which translates into very good physicomechanical properties and guarantees durable bonds and safe use for many years.
BOND RESISTANCEVery good resistance parameters of WOODMAX® adhesives result in the final bond resistance being higher than the resistance of the bonded wood.
ECOLOGYWe examine our products influence on the environment. WOODMAX® adhesives are environmentally-friendly agents among wood adhesives, they do not contain substances harmful to health and they are easy to use.
In our Technological Center we provide complex technical tests and develop new adhesive formulations. We also prepare special recipes of our products according to our customer’s requirements.
PVAC based adhesives
Synthetic adhesives are an almost exclusive agent used to bond wood and wood-based materials. Among a large number of adhesives based on synthetic polymers, adhesives based on poly(vinyl acetate) dispersions, also referred to as white adhe-sives, belong to the most important ones. PVAC-based aqueous adhesives are thermoplastic adhe-sives, which become elastic at higher temperatures (above 50 °C) and subsequently become plastic.
Modification
The possibility of modifying PVAC adhesives using various additives makes it possible to obtain water- and heat-resistant bonds. Such bond areas may also show higher resistance to long-term loads. The basic classification for thermoplastic adhesives is PN-EN 204 (classification based on water-resistance), which defines weather conditions and areas of application for materials to be bonded.
Preparation of the surface for bondingSurfaces intended for bonding should be appropriately matched, so that their entire surfaces were adjacent after bonding. Elements with a very smooth surface can be polished and carefully dedusted.
WOODMAX® wood adhesives applicationAfter applying the adhesive - without exceeding the “open time” - the surfaces being bonded should be pressed together so that excess adhesive is removed. The drying time depends on the kind of wood, its porosity, moisture content and temperature. The open time depends on the humidity and ambient temperature, the material and the application size.
Cleaning toolsAfter finishing work, wash the tools in cold water. Dried adhesive should be soaked in water for several hours and removed mechanically.
Bonding parameters (recommended):- Temperature of the bonding process 15 ÷ 25 [°C]
- Relative humidity 40 ÷ 70 [%]
- Wood moisture content 8 ÷ 12 [%]
- Amount of adhesive applied 90 ÷ 180 [g/m2]
Storage conditions
Store at temperatures ranging from + 5°C to + 30°C. When stored in such conditions and in their original packagings, adhesives keep their properties 6 - 12 months following the date of manufacture.
Classes from D1 to D4
Adhesives with higher waterproof class (D3 and D4) should also have higher heat resistance according to WATT 91 (DIN EN 14257). This parameter describes the bonding strength at elevated temperatures. The gluing process and the quality of the bond are determined by not only the type of wood and adhesive used, but also such gluing conditions as temperature, humidity, application, pressure, press-ing, open time. Due to high wood and wood-based products adhesion, quick bonding, no negative environmental impact and easy application, PVAc adhesives are used mostly in door, window, stair and furniture manufacturing.
In addition, they are easily removed from applicators.
