n Winter/spring 2012 registration begins Wednesday, december 28 at 8am onLine for residents of independence twp only. you must have an online account and user name to use online registration.

n all other registrations will be taken Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 8am unless otherwise stated in the program description you are registering for. all registrations not done in person will be processed after walk-ins on 1/4/12.

n all registrations are taken on a first come, first serve basis and will not be accepted onsite at a class/program.

n Proof of age required for new customers, under 18 by providing a birth certificate.

n in order to confirm the status of a class/program, a deadline is listed with each class description. if space still exists and registering after the registration deadline, a $10 late fee will apply.

clintonwood Park is our largest park consisting of 120 acres. it backs up to independence oaks, an oakland county Park. the park is open every day with the exception of new year’s day, christmas day and thanksgiving day. hours are 7am-dusk in the summer and 9am-5pm in the winter unless an activity is being held at the park. the park features a walking trail, picnic pavilions, basketball, 4 square, tennis courts, volleyball courts, the renee Przybylski spraypark Memorial (open Memorial day-Labor day), baseball, softball and soccer fields, an inline rink and horseshoes. there is handicap parking available throughout the Park. all restrooms are handicap accessible and accessible picnic tables are located throughout the park. the spraypark is handicap accessible. all fields and courts are accessible; however Field #3 and some soccer fields do not have paved pathways.

Clintonwood Park Rental Facilities:

n North Pavilion: seating for approximately 50 people, limited summer availability.

n South Pavilion: seating for approximately 125 people

The Senior Center and Carriage House are located within Clintonwood Park.

the senior center offers sports, trips, classes and activities to adults 50 & over. daily services include: on-site lunches, ‘Meals on Wheels’ deliveries for homebound seniors, transportation for resident of clarkston, independence and springfield. the senior center is open Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, closed when clarkston community schools are cancelled and on holidays. Both the senior center and carriage house are accessible, have handicap Parking and ada restroom facilities. For carriage house rental information, contact the senior center.

Can I do the paperwork, but use someone else’s check? yes, however, the person who provides payment for the rental must be a resident in order to get the resident rate.With a Room Rental, can we come early to set-up? your rental should include enough time for set-up and clean-up time. if you need more time, you will need to add it to your rental.With a Pavilion Rental, can we come early to set-up? Pavilions, unless rented, are first come, first serve. your exclusive time begins at the time of your rental. your rental choices are: 9am-2pm, 3-8pm or 9am-8pm. if you choose to rent a ½ day rental, the pavilion cleaning times are between 2-3pm. With a Room Rental, can we have more people that the allotted amount in our contract? no. room capacities are determined by the independence twp Fire department.With a Pavilion Rental, can we have more people that the allotted amount in our contract? no. seating and parking capacities are factored in to that number.Are picnic tables included with my rental? yes, picnic table seating comes with your pavilion rental for the number of persons indicated on your contract. Are there electrical outlets at the Pavilions? yes. sorry, no generators are allowed.Are there grills are all Pavilions? not all. grills are located at sashabaw Plains’s pavilion, Bay court Pavilions (both) and clintonwood Park’s south pavilion. there is not a grill a clintonwood’s north Pavilion. there are grills in the grassy areas of sashabaw Plains park.Are there grills at the Beach? there are two grills in the grass at deer Lake Beach. Is the Spraypark or Beach included in my rental? no. there are separate fees to use the spraypark. Bay court Beach is however free.Can I rent a moonwalk or inflatable? all third party contracts for moonwalks, etc are subject to approval at the time of your rental. if approved, a certificate of insurance will need to be provided within ten days of your signed contract.Can I bring in my own tent? all third party contracts for tents, etc are subject to approval at the time of your rental. if approved, a certificate of insurance will need to be provided within ten days of your signed contract. Bay court Park is a wonderful historic landmark that has been designed to meet the growing needs of the community. the park features a community built playground, 9 hole Frisbee disc golf course, picnic shelters, an indoor room and restroom facilities. Bay court is also home to a small very picturesque beach on greens Lake, sWiM at your oWn risK, open Memorial day-Labor day. the Beach closes one hour before dusk. there is no charge to use the Beach. aLL Bay court amenities are handicap accessible, including the Beach Front; however the Frisbee disc golf course and Walking trail are located on rough terrain. handicap parking available at the Building and Playground. the Park is open every day with the exception of new year’s day, christmas day and thanksgiving day. hours are 7am-dusk in the summer and 9am-5pm in the winter unless an activity is being held at the park.

Bay Court Park Rental Facilities:

n Lakeside Pavilion: seating for approximately 40 people

n Cedar Grove Pavilion: seating for approximately 125 people

n Gazebo: Bench seating for 12, perfect for an outdoor wedding.

How far in advance can I rent? you can rent up to one year in advance from your event date.

Can I reserve a date over the phone? you can get availability of the date you are inquiring about over the phone, but you must come in to make the reservation.

Is a Security Deposit required? yes, a $100 security deposit (in the form of a check) must be left for each facility rented.

Can I get a refund or transfer my date? if the cancellation/transfer request by the applicant occurs more than fourteen days (14) prior to the event: all transfers are subject to a $20 administrative fee, pending the new date is available. all transfers must be done in person, unless payment is made by Visa or Mastercard. call (248) 625-8223 for more information and to have a transfer Form faxed to you. in the case of a refund, the rental fee minus $20 will be refunded along with the deposit. see above for details. if the cancellation/transfer request by the applicant occurs less than fourteen days (14) prior to the event: the entire rental fee is forfeited and the deposit will be returned in full, regardless of the reason for the cancellation,

including inclement weather. absolutely no transfers.

Disc Golf at Bay Court Park will be open this winter! tee pads will be maintained by: Up In the Air Disc Golf.

What We Dothe purpose of the clarkston community garden is to create a sustainable organic garden and nursery for meeting the community needs while engaging community participation in an outdoor, life long activity. We give visitors a place to escape their hectic worlds and enjoy a slower pace of life; working alongside their families to grow real food that didn’t come shrouded in wax paper. We keep our community fed and healthy, donating produce to those friends and family in need.

Sponsorship Opportunitiesif your business is looking for a way to get involved in the community, the garden is currently seeking sponsors to help make our gardeners’ experience outdoors more pleasant and productive. sponsorship opportunities include: benches, signage, a tool shed, a play structure just to name a few. unique recognition accompanies all sponsorship levels.

Share Garden Program10x10 plots are available to rent on an annual basis. Whatever is grown in this space belongs to the share gardener. open registration is now ongoing and is first come, first serve. cost is $25 res/$35 non per plot. new gardeners will be required to attend an orientation in the spring of 2012. share gardeners will be required to donate 10 hours in the community gardens before october 31, 2012. VolunteerWould you like to volunteer in the garden this summer? individuals can volunteer, or come as a family or even a group! Volunteers will be arranged to work a weekday, weekend or on a special project. Volunteers are also needed to work the Farmer’s Market booth on saturday mornings (choose one date or a few!), starting the end of July-october. New this summer, volunteers will be needed to cut bouquets of flowers to be delivered with the senior center Meals on Wheels program. email Kelly at [email protected].

Fundraiseron Friday, May 4, 2012 at 6:30pm, please join us for a one-of-a-kind culinary experience! your evening will include lecture style training, printed recipes and, of course, tasting of the culinary accomplishments. ticket holders will have the opportunity to learn more about the community garden & slow Food detroit. there will also be a screening of urban roots, a documentary about the detroit urban farming movement.

ticKet inForMation: to purchase tickets, go to http://slowfooddetroitclarkstongardencooking class.eventbrite.com. tickets are $45 per person which includes a full dinner, wine/beer, coffee, tea, water and cooking instruction. this is a great opportunity to learn about the importance of supporting of our local community and urban gardens all while enjoying a fun cooking demonstration & great food. the Clarkston Community Garden is a Plant A Row for the Hungry site. Volunteers are needed to make the garden a success.

in 2010, more than 1200 volunteer hours (valued at $20,700) were recorded and over 9,000 pounds of food (valued at $24,325) donated to local food banks, including Lighthouse right here in clarkston.

Sanchin-Ryu’s Karate for Kids! For ages 4-14 (kindergarten-8th grade). our program combines two crucial courses into one, sanchin-ryu Karate & self-defense and Project: secure child (child safety). students will be trained with proven, age-appropriate techniques that are necessary for kids to protect themselves from attackers. this program is set in a fun, yet structured, environment which will give your child a positive outlook on learning a martial art. We focus on healthy attitudes versus perfection! Participants will achieve great self confidence and leadership through the physical techniques, mental strategies, drills and exercises they are led through.

Sanchin-Ryu’s Karate for Families!a Parent and child program for all ages! set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program allows parents to learn alongside their children. Physical techniques will be instructed along with drills and exercises, to help you have a positive experience with your self defense education. sanchin-ryu will teach you how to use your whole body, rather than just certain muscle groups, so size and stature are not an issue.

“Grace Under Pressure” Women’s Self-Defense! For ages 14 and older. Learn to act on stressful situations rather than being controlled by them in a fun, go-at-you-own-pace environment. our program, titled “grace under Pressure”, is a hands-on study of personal protection at home, school and at the workplace. We’ve designed street-wise techniques so that size or strength, age or athletic ability are not factors in defending one’s self.

Sanchin-Ryu’s Karate for Adults! For ages 14 and older. set in a fun, non-competitive and informative atmosphere, this program is designed to empower today’s adults with knowledge that can save your life! students will learn a broad range of techniques including individual strikes, advanced combinations and more. you will also receive training on how to deal with, get out of and counter different grabs and other attack scenarios. sanchin-ryu will teach you how to use your whole body, rather than just certain muscle groups, so size and stature are not an issue.

Safety ClassesSafety Classes

Snowmobile Safety Class have snowmobiles or do you plan to go out this winter? snowmobile safety training is recommended for all snowmobile operators but if you are 12-17 and want to operate a snowmobile without direct adult supervision, this class is required. the certificate also gives a 12 year old the privilege to cross the street by themselves. class will be two nights, including an exam. students must attend both nights. upon successful completion of the program, students will be issued a snowmobile safety certificate. registration is now ongoing. registration deadline is 1/16. if spaces still exist after the registration deadline, a $10 late fee will apply. students 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. held at township offices.

January 23 & 25 (Monday & Wednesday)

ORV Safety (Off Road Vehicle) safety is a must with any motorized vehicle. open to persons of all ages who wish to operate an orV (atV, motor cycle or related 2-wheel, 3-wheel or 4-wheel vehicle) without direct adult supervision. Must be 12 years of age by april 1, 2012 (or be 8 years of age by april 1, 2012 to drive an 2 wheeled motor cycle). class will be two nights, including an exam. students must attend both classes in order to receive a certificate. upon successful completion of the program, students will be issued an orV safety certificate. registration deadline is 3/12. if spaces still exist after the registration deadline, a $10 late fee will apply. students 15 and under must be accompanied by an adult. held at township offices.

March 19 & 21 (Monday & Wednesday)

sunday evenings at clintonwood Park. the season runs from april 22th through June 24th. the format

is 10 vs 10 (6 guys and 4 girls) with a maximum roster of 12 players. all teams
