A Service of Worship including the

Sacrament of Communion

For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread,

and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,

“This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.

I Corinthians 11:23-26

God’s People Gather for Worship

By God’s grace alone and to his glory alone, we exist to worship God in his greatness and his holiness with Gospel-drive passion and integrity…” (excerpted from FPC Rome Mission Statement)

Prelude “God’s Peace is Mine” Ethel Clarke Phillips Dr. Patty Nelson, organist

Invocation

Declaring God’s Praise

Call to Worship Isaiah 40:27-31

Leader: Why do you complain, Jacob? Why do you say, Israel, “My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God”? ALL: Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. Leader: He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; ALL: But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Hymn No. 33 “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise” ST. DENIO

Affirming Our Faith

The Apostles’ Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell;

the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty;

from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Sharing the Sacrament

Communion Hymn No. 309 “I Will Sing of My Redeemer” (verses 1 and 2)

HYFRYDOL Invitation to the Table

Leader: Friends, this is the joyful feast of the people of God! They will come from east and west, and from north and south, and sit at table in the kingdom of God. According to Luke, when our risen Lord was at table with his disciples, he took the bread, and blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him. This is the Lord’s table. Our Savior invites those who trust him to share the feast which he has prepared.

NEXT SUNDAY’S WORSHIP SERVICES COMBINED FOR MISSIONS EMPHASIS SUNDAY (2/11/18): Combined Worship Services in Sanctuary Guest speaker: Central Asian follower of Jesus who came to faith from a Muslim background

MISSIONS EMPHASIS WEEK WITH THE THEME, “BREAKING UNBELIEF” – Our 2018 Missions Emphasis will be held Wednesday, Feb. 7th and Sunday, Feb. 11th. See info below and in attached flyer for further information.

- Wednesday Night Family Gathering returns to our usual times of 5:15 pm meal followed by a combined

program for adults and students at 6:15 pm. Holly Lord will cater our meal which will include Beef Roast,

Roasted Potatoes, Green Beans, Bread and Pies for Dessert. The children’s menu will be the same. Reservations

are due by NOON on Monday Feb. 5th. Summit, Communicants, and Nursery will be held as usual.

Our Wednesday night program features speakers from Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) and Haven Health

(formerly the Pregnancy Center of Rome) who will share stories of how their ministries are “Breaking Unbelief”,

and what happens when a foothold is gained.

- Sunday, February 11th will begin with free breakfast and coffee at 9 am in King Hall, followed by a combined

adult/youth Sunday School at 9:15am. Combined Worship will be in the Sanctuary at regular time of 10:30am.

There will be children’s Sunday School, Nursery, and Children’s Church all as usual.

Our speaker for both the combined Sunday School and our worship service will be a Central Asian national who

converted from his Muslim background and beliefs to follow Jesus through the ministry of missionaries sent out

by the EPC, some of whom were supported by this church for over 20 years. His testimony is how the cycle of

unbelief that had stood in his family through generations was broken through the message of the Gospel

carried to his nation by families who accepted the call to go. Now, he and his wife (who also came to faith from

a Muslim background) are raising their four children to know that Jesus is the only way of salvation. Added to

that, our speaker has planted and now pastors a church, which in partnership with other churches planted by

the EPC and lead by those who came to faith through their ministries, is committed to breaking the cycle of

unbelief in the lives of their family, their neighbors, and their nation. In addition to our speaker you’ll get to

meet his wife and two of their precious children who will be a visible testimony to us of how nations and

cultures can be changed one family at a time.

FAITH PROMISE FOR MISSIONS CARDS have been mailed to you and are available throughout our church campus. Pledges will be received during the worship service next Sunday, Feb. 11th. Please be in prayer regarding your personal Faith Promise.

THE ROSE IN WORSHIP TODAY is given in honor of Master Ezeqiel Luka Sartorato, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raphael (Kaylee) Sartorato, grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Roger (Andrea) Sartorato born on January 18, 2018.

CARRY ON THE CONVERSATION (Each week we use this space to provide a glimpse into what our children are learning in Children’s Worship,

and what you might ask to “carry on the conversation” with them at home.)

Key Theme: God is never surprised. Psalm 147:5 God foresees all things because He has already ordained all things.

Ask: Is anything ever out of God’s control? Do we need to worry about what happens to us if everything is under God’s control?

Psalm 145:9 says “The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made.” What can you do to strengthen your faith and confidence in God?

“PRAY for ME CAMPAIGN” LAUNCH EVENT TODAY – “Rallying the Church around the Next Generation” - 40-50% of Students from good youth groups and families will drift from the Church after High School. In fact, research shows that adult believers are crucial in passing on faith to the next generation. And whom better to invoke to work in the hearts of our students than the one and true, living God. PfMC is a movement designed to naturally create multi-generational relationships through prayer. Three adult believers from three different generations pray for one student for one year. If you would like to join this movement, please contact the church office to register to attend the launch event TODAY after church in The Crossing (meal will be provided). Prayer guides will be available for purchase at the event for $10. If you have any questions please contact Sonny Walker at [email protected].

The 9 lessons encourage the participants to marinate on the Word of God and reflect upon God’s character...anchoring the reader in the firm foundation of the love and care of our Sovereign God. Phyllis Pemerton, of the Adult Discipleship Ministry Team, provided the following review of this study, “I am impressed with this content as a Christian woman and as a nurse who has had experience with grieving moms. I believe the Lord will use this in a very powerful way.” To register for this Bible Study, please contact Iwona Brownrigg at [email protected] or 678-901-7256. If you would be willing to pray specifically for the ladies going through this study, please contact Paula Newman at [email protected].

NEW WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY, “BIBLICAL IMAGINATIONS OF HEAVEN”, BEGINS FEBRUARY 14TH – Do you ever stop to imagine what heaven is going to be like? If you are like me, you probably do not think about heaven as much as you should. But in this upcoming Wednesday night series, we will take some time to exercise our biblical imaginations on heaven—and ultimately the new heaven and the new earth—and consider not only how amazing it will be and all the things we will do there, but also how our hope for the future will significantly impact our perspective, our attitudes, and our actions in this life today. Join Rev. Schwartz, your humble and excited tour guide, on this journey beginning Wednesday, February 14th.
