NGO

NGO is the abbreviation for Non-Governmental Organization.Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are legally constituted corporations created by natural or legal people that operate independently from any form of goverrnment.

In the cases in which NGOs are funded totally or partially by governments, the NGO maintains its non-governmental status by excluding government representatives from membership in the organization.

In the United States, NGOs are typically nonprofit organization. The term is usually applied only to organizations that pursue wider social aims that have political aspects, but are not openly political organizations such as political parties.

Being an NGO means partly that you organize, collect and distribute donations you need to run your projects.

NGO CLUBHOUSE: EXAMPLE 1

Canefields Clubhouse offers a psychosocial rehabilitation program for adults with mental illness. The program is designed to assist its members to lead socially and vocationally satisfying lives within their community. Canefields Clubhouse is one of over 340 Clubhouses internationally.

ADAPTIVE RE-USE: EXAMPLE 2

The Trond Clubhouse by Bjørke Arkitektur recently received the 2013 Trondheim Architecture Award. The project was initiated and partly built by the local community, and it aims to establish a year-round meeting place for young people near the center of Trondheim. The jury awarded the project especially for establishing an informal meeting place, for local integration and for architectural quality in a low -cost project.

ADAPTIVE RE-USE: EXAMPLE 2

Outdoor Activities in Middle Norway are often influenced by rough weather conditions. The protected outdoor area increases the usability and extends the season of football tournaments, training and other activities. The new clubhouse contains two stories with assembly space , wardrobes and a covered outdoor gathering space. The project is located in a park area in the center of Trondheim/Norway.

ADAPTIVE RE-USE: EXAMPLE 3

The Newark Clubhouse brings together NYC’s downtown flair and Virgin Atlantic’s warmth and individuality. A constellation of sparkling pinpoint lights draws you into the sculpted entry passage. Punctuated by a sky lit receptionist at a specular desk, the entry sequence creates an extended decompression zone between the busy terminal and the relaxed luxury of the clubhouse; a dramatic immersion into the Virgin Atlantic experience.

ADAPTIVE RE-USE: EXAMPLE 3

The Clubhouse is organized around a faceted bar in the center of the lounge, culminating in a crystalline bottle display under the central skylight. The geometry of this object ripples across the ceiling; an abstract geometric canopy that spills up into the two skylights. A series of distinct spaces pin wheel around the bar. Each space references an iconic downtown typology- cafe, theater, art gallery, restaurant, club, bar, lounge.
