NGO’s

Now that you’ve begun to see the positive change you

can affect as individuals through the difference project, it’s time to see what can happen when groups of people unite with a common cause.

Non-governmental organizations are at the heart of the democratic process, acting as the voice of society… the voices of global citizenship. They exist because groups of citizens ban together to do something about an issue.

NGO’s

After examining several websites that list many examples of global NGO’s, you will select one Canadian based NGO and one internationally based NGO to focus on and research.

Your research will be presented as a PWPT

presentation (remember to visually enhance your pwpt presentation) that clearly outlines your answers to the following questions:

NGO’s

For each NGO focus your research on:

• What is the mandate or purpose of the organization?• What is the history of the organization?• Who belongs to this organization?• Where do they get their funding?• Where in the world does the organization work?• What are some detailed examples of the kinds of

impact this organization is having on the world?• Why should I/others join this organization or

donate/contribute to their cause?• What rules do NGOs typically abide by and rely

upon?(*Hint: You may want to watch the video link on ‘What is an NGO’.)

* Develop your answers by going into adequate detail!!
