DESCRIPTION

In vitro study was carried out for screening of wheat genotypes for drought tolerance on the basis of callus induction by usins.different stress medias. 18 LI M L-'2, 4-D was standardised for callus induction and callus was obtained from wheat seed and stem segments. The results revealed that AKW-381 and AKDW¬2997-16 gave response towards callus induction from wheat seed in polyethylene glycol (PEG-6000) stress media at -8 bar, whereas no genotype gave response towards callus from stem segments in PEG stress media. In case of sucrose stress media, out of five earlier screened genotypes based on germination performance, only two, genotypes viz., AKW-381 and AKAW-3717 gave response towards callus at -8 bar. Besides that, sucrose stress media also responded towards callus induction from stem segments of genotype AKW-381. Amongst all twenty one wheat cultivars, only AKW-381 was found to be the drought tolerant under both the stress medias.
