ince announcing its plans to contract forensic firm Oritain Global, Supima cotton has been leading the way in helping to educate the industry on the importance of transparency. In a window of three months, Supima’s VP of Marketing and Promotion, Buxton Midyette, has been invited to participate in three conference roundtables to discuss the company’s efforts to promote transparency.

Hosting denim industry trade shows in New York and Amsterdam, the Kingpins Transformers sum-mit series focuses on social, environmental and economic challenges facing the denim industry. Be-lieving that product accountability is a growing concern for retailers and consumers, this year’s events shined the light on transparency. Joining Midyette on the podium where industry leaders from across all areas of the supply chain included: Roberto Candiani, Candiani Denim; Tricia Carey, Lenzing, Direc-tor Global Business Development; Frouke Bruinsma, G-Star Raw, Corporate Responsibility Director; Helen Sahi, Avery Dennison’s Global Senior Director of Sustainability; and Ben Tomkins, Oritain Global, to name a few.

The 2018 Innovation series was another summit held in New York on May 15. Cohosted by Core-sight Research together with TrendSeeder, 24 Seven and law firm Davis & Gilbert, the evening was focused on exploring “The Profile of the New Consumer”. Panelists including Supima’s Midyette; Paul Blum, former CEO of Henri Bende, Fred Segal, Juicy Couture, Kenneth Cole and David Yurman; Mike Karam, Head of Strategy, Laird+Partners discussed how consumers are shopping, how they are using different technologies and what factors value when choosing among brands with trans-parency leading the way.

From Amsterdam to New York, Midyette has been reinforcing the story of American-grown Supima cotton and its new partnership with Oritain Global to authenticate and verify Supima cotton. Being able to trace the premium cotton back to famers in America is a big step in providing transparency to the industry and ultimately the consumer.

includes working as a Strategy Consultant specializing in the

retail and apparel for Kurt Salmon Associates (KSA). Previous to working at KSA, Buxton was

the Director of Latin American Operations for COTTON USA. Buxton has an MBA from the

Wharton School of Business,an MA in International Studies

from the University of Pennsylvania and a BA in

Economics and Latin American Studies from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.
