Young Achievers Awards 2013Do you know an inspirational young person? Nominate them now for the 2013 Young Achievers Awards!
Our nominations are being extended from November 30th to December 14th, giving you more time to nominate inspirational young people you know!
What are the Young Achievers Awards?
The Young Achievers Awards celebrate inspirational young people aged 16 to 25 years old. The award winners are recognised for their voluntary efforts in the arts, community, environment and sports sectors.
This year, the Young Achievers Trust are proud to launch a new awards category. The Future Leaders Award will recognise and celebrate young people who meet the Young Achievers Awards criteria and also hold a governance position within a charity or social enterprise. This could be a founder or senior manager of a charity or social enterprise, or a trustee or chair of a charity. We believe that this new category complements the other Young Achievers Awards, which together show how young people are not just delivering but actually leading and inspiring the positive change within their communities through volunteering.
What criteria will the awards be judged against? •Awards are given to young people who in the last 12 months have:•Shown innovation or creativity in their volunteering•Demonstrated leadership in creating and developing projects•Used their energy, commitment and enthusiasm to raise awareness•Created something worth replicating elsewhere and inspired others•Demonstrated a willingness to develop their talents in new areasFor more information on the award criteria, check out: www.youngachieversawards.org
If you have any questions, email us at [email protected].
Donate £10 now to the Young Achievers Trust to help us run our 2013 awards event

FundingSharing HeritageSharing Heritage is for any not-for-profit group wanting to explore, share and celebrate their community’s heritage. Activities we can support include events, exhibitions, festivals and celebrations, or producing local history publications, conservation of individual heritage items, volunteer training and support.
Start-up grants will also be available to community groups taking responsibility for heritage, to create the right constitutional framework (including the costs of professional advice on legal forms and governance structures) and to assess options in arriving at a strategy for managing the heritage. They may then make a further application for a grant for a project focused on their heritage.
Grants: £3,000 - £10,000. Apply from: Feb 2013
Deadline: None. Decision: 8 weeks

Applications will only be considered from registered charities or other not-for-profit organisations, such as Building Preservation Trusts, Civic Societies, Development and Groundwork Trusts who take on historic building rescues.

Way Forward in the West WightAs you may be aware Way Forward is part of the Island charity Osel Enterprises, who have been supporting people with a disability on the Island for 28 years. We currently run our service from Downside Community Learning Centre in Newport a person centred programme offering many opportunities in the community.
We are delighted to announce that thanks to a grant from the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales, we will be offering a new service in the West Wight and would like to invite you to our special launch event on:
Thursday 10th January, West Wight Sports Centre between 12noon and 2pm. Please come along to find out how our work supports those with learning and physical disabilities, Autism and mental health problems, and our exciting plans for the future.
This new project will enable us to offer a host of new activities and reach those people from rural areas who may not currently access the full variety of support that is available to them. It is also very important to us to listen to the needs of our customers and develop a person centred programme. The launch will be the first of our new weekly drop-in opportunities, where Islanders can let us know about the activities they would like us to offer.
We hope you will be able to join us on 10th January. A buffet will be served during the event, if you want to find out more about the Way Forward programme and the launch event then please telephone 01983 520128 or 01983 523000 email [email protected]
