WELLNESS
Niloofar’s Weekly Wellness Tip
How you feel about the person when you speak to them is as important, if not more important, than what you say to them.
Last week I had a few conversations with people about being mindful of their energy when they're dealing with others. Even if you use all the "right" words and keep your
tone calm and collected, if your insides are screaming or if you lack faith in the person you're speaking with...they will feel it. They say 98% of communication is nonverbal, and most of us actually pay more attention to how we feel about a communication than
to the actual words.
I'll give you a personal example. I was dealing with someone this week who felt very needy. It felt like they were being clingy and my natural ego response was to want to run away from that neediness and to feel a bit "grossed out" and frustrated by it. Even
though I was using nice words in dealing with this person, I recognized it still didn't feel good inside of me nor did our interactions likely feel good to the other person. I was
able to recognize that my rejecting this energy was a reflection of me rejecting the need in myself, and feeling grossed out by my own neediness which I try to repress. So, instead, I tried to not just use nice words, but actually change how I feel about this person. I saw the need as my own, forgave it, and moved toward it. Amazing how
healing that can be! ~ Niloofar
