There Is - There Are:• We use there is/are to say that something exists or does

not exist.

There is + singular noun There is an apple.

There are + plural nounThere are some apples.

There is + non count nounThere is some apple juice.

Count – Non Count Nouns• A “count noun” can be:Singular Pluralapple apples

• A “non count noun” is a noun that is impossible to count and it has only singular form:

Singularapple juice

A – An - Some• We use “a” with a singular noun that begins with a consonant:

There is a carrot.

• “An” is used when the singular noun begins with a vowel:There is an apple.

• We use “some” with count nouns in plural form and with non count nouns:

There are some apples.There is some apple juice.

Activity 1: Food VocabularyLook at the images and write down the correct food word on your notebook. You can use the words from the list below.

Activity 2: Honey or honeys?Look at the list of food words once again. Decide if they are “count” or “non coun nouns”. Place the words in the correct cathegory.

Activity 3: What’s in the fridge?Look at the fridge and complete the sentences with the appropriete word: is – are – a – an – some.

Activity 5: Now is your turn!

1. Take a picture of your fridge at home and make a list of the things (food, fruits, vegetables, drinks) there are.

2. Write down some sentences saying what there is/are in the frigde. Remember to use: a, an, some.

3. Read aloud your sentences, practice as many times as you consider necessary to do so.

4. Go to http://vocaroo.com/ and record your sentences.5. When you are done, download or share the file in the

discussion board of the class.6. Hope you enjoy it.
