SYNOPSIS

In the Heights centers on a variety of characters living in the neighborhood of Washington Heights, on the northern tip of Manhattan. At the center of the show is Usnavi, a bodega owner who pines for the beautiful girl working in the neighboring salon and dreams of winning the lottery and escaping to the shores of his native Dominican Republic. Meanwhile, Nina, a childhood friend of Usnavi’s, has returned to the neighborhood from her first year at college with surprising news for her parents, who have spent their life savings on building a better life for their daughter. Ultimately, Usnavi and the residents of the close-knit neighborhood get a dose of what it means to be home.

Jacob Kaitz- Scenic Designer/Sound Engineer Jacob Kaitz plays many roles here at Diamond Bar High School, working as the staff Technical Director and Performing Arts Technician. He holds a degree in Theatre from California State University Fullerton and is also an alumnus of the DBHS Theatre Program. Jacob works mostly as a freelance sound and lighting designer and technician though he is always

ready to try his hand at any other aspect of theatre production. Some of his most recent productions include Robot Songs (Sound Design: Theatre Lab- NY, NY), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Director, DBHS), All Shook Up (Sound Design, CSUF), Moonchildren (Lighting Design, CSUF), and Rooms: A Rock Romance (Sound Design, Chance Theatre- Anaheim, CA). Eurydice (Sound Design, Ophelia’s Jump Productions, Claremont, CA) and 33 Variations (Sound Design: Ophelia’s Jump Productions, Claremont, CA), Les Miserables (Set Design & Sound Design- DBHS), Journey to the West (DBHS)

Dexter Rogers-Stagecraft Instructor/Set Construction/Prop Design and Construction Dexter Rogers is a graduate of Tulane University’s theatre program. He is a company member of Ophelia’s Jump Productions where he most recently directed A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the 2016 Summer Shakespeare Festival and A Behanding in Spokane for Ophelia’s Jump

during their 2017 season. Dexter has worked in various roles in theatre including Assistant Director and Master Carpenter.

Michael Gonzalez- Choreographer Michael is an American Latino artist, regional performer, choreographer. Regional credits include: In The Heights (Candlelight Pavilion, Performance Riverside)  Footloose The Musical, Oklahoma!, West Side Story (Candlelight Pavilion). Choreographer credits include: In The Heights (Pasadena City College) The Full Monty (Chaffey College). So proud to be working with the

Beatrice Casagran Director Ms. Casagran is a theatre educator, veteran actor, and director, She is Founding Artistic Director of Ophelia’s Jump Productions. Her most recent directorial credits include The Electric Baby, Tribes, Honky, Ruthless! the Musical, and Titus Andronicus. Favorite past work at DBHS includes Journey to the West, Les Miserables and Into The Woods. Ms.

Casagran holds a Master of Arts degree in Theatre from CSUSB and a Juris Doctor from UCLA School of Law. She is thrilled to be working with the talented and spirited students and supportive parents of Diamond Bar High School and looks forward to leading DBHS students through many exciting theatrical adventures to come.

Andrew Orbison- Music Director Andrew Orbison is a Los Angeles based freelance music director, composer, actor, and arranger. Currently, he serves as Assistant Music Director for the Luther Burbank Middle School VMA in Burbank, CA and is one of the resident Music Directors at the Candlelight Pavilion in Claremont, CA. Currently, he is gearing up to go on tour (starting this June) across the

US with his original show The Final, Final Farewell Tour of Dick and Delores Del Rubio (Composer/Actor) after a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this past August where the show won multiple awards including Best Cabaret Show. He currently is also writing music for a new hit web series The UnPop Podshow.. Favorite musical direction credits include Sister Act, 25th Annual... Spelling Bee, In the Heights, Godspell, Avenue Q, and Les Miserables. Enjoy the show!

Jaden Campbell- Usnavi This is Jaden's second production at DBHS theater. Jaden is a senior at Diamond Bar High School and would like to thank his family for supporting him.

Ariana Gonzalez- Nina Ariana Gonzalez is honored to be working with such a brilliantly talented cast and crew. A senior at DBHS, this is her first and final performance with this department. Outside of this production, she serves as president and dance captain of the DBHS all women’s show choir, Solitaire. She thanks her family and friends for being supportive of her endeavors, and expresses her gratitude for the support she’s received from within drama.

Daniel Durkee- Kevin Rosario Daniel Durkee is a Senior at DBHS and this is his sixth production at the school. His credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream (Flute), Into the Woods (Baker), The Skin of Our Teeth (Fitzpatrick), Les Misérables (Javert), and Journey to the West (Bajie). He has also been in several productions with MET2 including Bye Bye Birdie (Hugo) and The Music Man (Tommy). All he has to say is “I’m a Baker”.

Pilar Alcazar- Camilla Rosario Pilar Alcazar is a junior at Diamond Bar High School. She has played bass in two productions, but this is her fourth time acting in a show at DBHS. She would like to thank her family and friends for their support, and hopes you enjoy the show!

Riley Mawhorter- Benny Riley Mawhorter is a Senior at DBHS and is an experienced actor in DBHS's drama program and he is very glad and very excited to be a part of "In the Heights". He plays as Benny, and he thanks everyone who has supported him in his acting career.

Amanda Revillia- Abuela Claudia Amanda Revilla is a senior at Diamond Bar High School. Previous roles include Fantine (Les Miserables) and Titania (A Midsummer Night's Dream).

Amelia Anijelo- Daniela Amelia Anijielo is a Junior at Diamond Bar High School she has been in four other  DBHS productions, including Into The Woods, The Skin Of Our Teeth, Les Misérables, and Journey to the West. She has worked with OJP productions and is Secretary of Drama. She thanks  you,  her family, and the Theatre department so much for coming. She also  hopes you enjoy the show. 

Nicholas Azurin- Sonny Nick is a senior at Diamond Bar High School. This is his last show, and he's excited to be a part of it. His most recent credits include Sun Wukong, from Journey to the West, and Joly in Les Miserables. Not only is it his last year, but it has also been the most physically demanding, so Nick feels he's going out with a bang.

Chloe Reyes- Vanessa This is Chloe Reyes's very last Spring production with the DBHS theatre department. Since her first role as "Isabel", in "The Pirates of Penzance", back in 2014, her passion for performing has flourished. She would like to thank her friends, and family for their endless support during her four years with this program, and hopes you all enjoy the show. 

Mary Thomas- Carla/Vanessa Understudy Mary  is a Junior and  is very excited to be apart of In the Heights.  This is her 8th production, 6th at Diamond Bar High School.

Niamh Veloso- Piraguero Niamh Veloso is excited to jump into a wonderful play as the Piraguero for her first year at DBHS and is looking forward to future productions. 

Matthew Lee- Graffiti Pete Matthew Lee is a senior in Diamond Bar High School. He's spent the last 4 years in theater and is grateful for every moment of them. He's glad to be playing the role of Graffiti Pete, and he hopes you enjoy watching him dance.

Ashley Barela- Ensemble Ashley Barela is a freshman at Diamond Bar High School. This is her very first production at DBHS and she could not be more excited! Ashley loves drama, and she loved working with the cast of In the Heights. She hopes to be in some upcoming performances here at DBHS.

Julianna King- Yolanda/ Carla Understudy This is Julianna's fourth and final musical at DBHS. She has been in multiple productions at DBHS and has been Thespian President for two consecutive years. Her favorite credits include Baker's Wife in Into the Woods, Maggie Antrobus in Skin of Our Teeth (DBHS), Cobweb in A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Robert/Simple in Merry Wives of Windsor (OJP). She hopes you enjoy the show!

Isabel Tuason- Ensemble/ Yolanda Understudy Isabel is a junior at Diamond Bar High School and previously starred in last year's production of Les Miserables. She'd like to thank everyone who has supported her and hopes you enjoy the show.

KT Wirth- Ensemble Kt Wirth is a freshman at Diamond Bar High School. This is her second production at this school. Her first production was "Journey to the west". She is very excited to be in more shows.

Arvind Singh- Doming Arvind is a sophomore at Diamond Bar High School, and this is his third production with the drama department. Previous Shows include Les Miserables and Journey to the West.

Troy Hazama- Jose Troy Hazama is a Sophomore at DBHS. This is his first performance, and would like to thank his friends and family for supporting him. Troy would like to dedicate his performance to Riley, Bobby, Bessie, Yosh, Nobie, and his family.

Allison Santogrossi- Ensemble Allison Santogrossi attends Chaparral Midd le Schoo l . She has been in productions like Bye Bye Birdie and Willy Wonka and has played Hunk in The Wizard of Oz and Mrs. Potts in Beauty and the Beast. She thanks her parents and her friend Catherine for pushing her to achieve more.

Miranda Tejeda- Ensemble Miranda Tejeda is a Senior at DBHS. This is her 7th and last show here at DBHS.  Her credits include Skin of our Teeth (Broadcast Official), Les Miserables (Madame Thenardier), Journey to the West (Green Orchid), and Songs of a New World (Singer).  She would like to thank her family for supporting her in Theater.  

Jolynn Zhang- Ensemble Jolynn Zhang is a freshman at Diamond Bar High School. After misguided stints in the band and visual art programs of her middle school, she is happy to have found a place in the DBHS drama program. This is her first show with the company.

Ellie Desmond- Ensemble Ellie Desmond is a junior at DBHS. She loves drama and being apart of the shows and hopes you enjoy In the Heights!

Aunicca Dionisio- Ensemble Aunicca has performed with the DBHS cast in Les Miserables. She is honored to be able to perform with this talented cast again in this years play "In The Heights".

Luke Teerling- Ensemble Luke is a junior at Diamond Bar High School and this is his fourth performance with DBHS Drama. He hopes you enjoy the show.

Jenna Wong- Ensemble Jenna Wong is grateful for this opportunity to perform in her second theater production, "In the Heights." Outside of drama, you can find her spending her time playing in band and basketball.

Jeremiah Reyes- Ensemble This is Jeremiah's very first production. He's very grateful to be in this production. He'd like to thank all of his friends and family for supporting him. He'd especially like to thank his mom and dad. Outside of drama he can also be seen in band and track.

Most people have heard about Lin-Manuel Miranda's Broadway hit play Hamilton. But have you heard about his first musical In The Heights?  If not, don't miss your chance to see it!  It is coming soon to Diamond Bar High School!  The tickets are cheaper than Hamilton and it will also feature CAAP's very own Amelia Anijielo as Daniela!

Amelia has performed in several of Diamond Bar High School's productions and her performances have always been outstanding!

In the Heights  is a musical  with music and lyrics by  Lin-Manuel M i r a n d a a n d a b o o k b y Quiara Algeria Hudes. The story is set over the course of three days, involving characters in the largely D o m i n i c a n - A m e r i c a n neighborhood of Washington Heights in New York City.
