I wasn't surprised my mother-in-law Virginia wasn't eligible to be a hospice patientdespite her age (101), blindness, and frequent falls. She had no life-limitingdiagnosis and no weight loss. She still enjoyed pancakes and pasta. Even thoughshe wasn't accepted as a patient, the Hospicare nurse who did the evaluation had areassuring conversation with Virginia's main health aide and me about managingVirginia's symptoms. "BRIGHT HALF LIFE, a sixty-five minute chronicle of a deeply committedlesbian relationship, is contemporary as a play could be but the theme isclassic and timeless. Legal gay marriage has occupied merely a nanosecondof our existence, but the presentation of the highs and lows of coupledom,as exampled in this piece, defy the ages." -The Huffington Post

Registration for Women Swimmin' Laps Opens 3/15 Women Swimmin' Lapsfor Hospicare is the pool companion to our lake swim. Swimmers who chooseto participate in Women Swimmin' Laps can swim any distance, in any poolwith a certified lifeguard between March 15 and August 11 to fundraise forHospicare. Last year women swam in pools around town, across the countryand around the world to raise funds which directly supported Hospicarepatients and their families in Tompkins and Cortland Counties. One optionthat lap swimmers of all ability levels may want to try is to swim the 1.2 milesthat our lake swimmers complete on Lake Swim Day. Just four lengths of thepool per week between March 15 and August 11 (the day of our lake swimevent) will add up to a distance equal to the Cayuga Lake crossing!
