Action figures, Legos, back-drops and props will be available for filming in class. Instructors will guide students through the entire film mak-ing process including using a digital movie camera, filming scenes, stop-motion animation, downloading foot-age to the computer and digital editing with Frames software to add special effects. Final projects will be available online for all to see, or students may bring a USB drive on the last day to take home their films. Student photog-raphy release must be signed for class. New Hope Skating SchoolNew Hope Skating School classes are based on the Ice Skating Institute’s (ISI) Recreational Ice Skating Program for ice skaters 3 years of age and older. Beginner, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta are all skill levels of the testing program. Classes are taught by Dawn Landon and her fine staff. Participants will need their own skates with guards. Tumbling TotsThis is a great program to start your pre-schooler on their way to develop-ing basic gymnastics and tumbling skills. The kids, with the help of a parent and our gymnastics staff, will develop gross motor skills through tumbling, get an introduction to the various pieces of gymnastics equip-ment, and have lots of fun and games. A parent must participate! It’s time to send your letters to Santa! Once again, Santa Claus will have a special mailbox at the New Hope Parks and Recreation office. Santa Claus requests that each letter include the full name and address of each child so he and his elves can answer each one. Children can drop off letters through December 10. This special mailbox is only for children who live in New Hope.

Rink Rat HockeySpend the best months of winter play-ing hockey outdoors! This is a co-rec program for boys and girls ages 5-12. The program consists of two pre-sea-son practices and eight instructional games. Volunteer coaches instruct and officiate all games. There will be no goalies, just goal covers. Home games will be played in New Hope. Games will also be played in nearby com-munities. Games will be rescheduled in the event of cancellations (weather permitting). Participants must provide their own transportation and equip-ment (hockey skates, stick, helmet with mask, mouth guard, shin pads, hockey gloves, elbow pads and pro-tective cup if applicable). Schedules will be mailed to all participants the week of December 26. League jersey and participation award will be given. Register by December 7. Babysitter’s TrainingThis American Red Cross course pro-vides youth ages 11 to 15, with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to be great babysitters, plus real-world experiences to help them develop their leadership and commu-nication abilities. The course is fun and fast-paced with hands-on activities, exciting video, role-plays and lively discussions. Adult Golf Leagues Joining a golf league at New Hope Village Golf Course is a great way to enjoy the game of golf on a regu-lar basis. Special Destinations Museum of Russian Art Enjoy two great exhibits on this outing. Through this presenta-tion you will learn: Strategies to rec-ognize, collect, and organize personal, financial and legal papers; useful tools and materials to help organize those papers in appropriate locations and for recommended lengths of time; How to identify and replace essential missing documents; the importance of and how to communicate your organizational system with other family members; how to prepare an emergency file; and how to complete a household inventory. Antiques: Trash or Treasure – February 20Ever wonder if the cameo in your jew-elry box is genuine? Or the difference between trench art and folk art and if either is valuable? How about why there are jewels in a watch or where U.S. coins are made if they have a CC, O or W mint mark? David C. Schlueter, a certified personal property appraiser will share how anyone can authenti-cate an Italian cameo and he will talk about coin collecting basics. David will share examples of jeweled watches, and decades old trench art. He will also show examples of lithophane por-celain and uranium glass, which is very coveted by collectors. At the end of the program, David will answer ques-tions you may have about antiques you have at home or with you. H.O.M.E.H.O.M.E. provides affordable in-home services to residents age 60+ who live independently but need assistance to maintain their home. The Program serves clients who are not financially able to pay the full cost of the mainte-nance services, as well as frail older adults who require services designed to meet their needs. Community TripstersCommunity Tripsters is a program for adults who enjoy getting away and meeting new friends. Our trips allow you to eat at wonderful restaurants and experience a host of remark-able recreational activities. Cedarhurst Mansion and Winter Carnival – January 29Our journey begins at St. Paul’s beau-tiful Rice Park where we will enjoy the Winter Carnival ice sculptures on display. Located on 10 acres of rolling countryside in Cottage Grove, the mansion stands meticulously restored to its original splendor. Celtic Folklore – March 1We will travel to the Lake Elmo Inn Event Center for lunch. Enjoy family style service: Corned beef and cab-bage, braised short ribs, roasted baby red potatoes, roasted rutabega and carrots, rolls, coffee, and bread pudding with Irish whiskey. A Celtic Folklore performance by Clairseach will feature Ann and Charlie Hey-mann. They gently weave ballads, instrumental tunes and stories into their program. Ann is the world’s foremost performer on the wire-strung traditional Irish/Scottish harp that disappeared 200 years ago. Her husband, Charlie, sings lilting songs in Gaelic and English. He plays tradi-tional instruments such as the cittern, bodhran, button accordion and bones. Register by February 11.

Minneapolis Mobster Riding Tour – April 11Venture to the past for an entertaining and historic riding tour! 2012 “New Hope Sparkles” Holiday Lighting Contest

Simplify, Control and Create: Photography ClassThis class, for the sophisticated photographer, will simplify the controls found on DSLR (Digital single-lens reflex) cameras making it easier to create unique images. Topics to be covered include use of white balance, exposure compen-sation, shutter speed, and aperture priority techniques. The last hour will be spent putting classroom learning into practice. Please bring your camera, manual and a freshly charged battery to class. (Note: A DSLR camera is a camera that a lens can be attached to).
