In House and Outsourced Transcription Compared

Do you have a lot of Transcription to do in your office and normally use a member of staff? Is this person or persons a trained transcriber or do they do it as part of their normal work load? . There can be a number of advantages of using in-house Transcription Services, but perhaps this is a time when you should consider the alternative: using an outsourced service. Here are three good reasons why using outsourcing can save you time and money and be a viable way of getting your transcriptions done on time.

1. Imagine there is an emergency. It’s not your emergency – it’s one of your clients having an emergency and a rushed job needing to be done! It’s late in the day and your normal transcriber has already gone home. What should you do? In normal circumstances, it simply means you have to tell your client that they have to wait – until the next day, or perhaps after the weekend or when your transcriber gets back after a holiday or after a period of sickness. But you can turn to outsourcing instead. Most outsourced transcription or Transcreation Services are available 24/7. All you have to do is upload the document and select the language you want and you’re likely to get your finished product back before your own transcriber shows up through the office door again!

2. Your normal office transcriber has just left. They have got another job and you have to advertise for someone to replace the person who has gone. That might not be as easy as you think as the person who did the transcribing was responsible for several different tasks in the office and it’s hard to find someone to fit the bill. Then once you find a replacement, you have to train him or her so that they can do the job as well as you expect. Now if you use an outsourcer, you don’t have to worry about staffing as the transcription service is available just when you need them – and you don’t have to worry about the expense and time constraints of training or supervision either.

3. It’s time to work out the budget. You have to think about all those staffing costs and they are not getting any less as the years go by. Having your own staff in-office can have many advantages – you know the strengths and weaknesses of each of your staff members, and can communicate with them face to face just when you want to, but there are expenses involved that wouldn’t be there if you outsourced. There’s the office space and furniture, for a start. Of course there are monthly salaries to pay and this includes holidays and sick pay when it becomes necessary. If the employee has little to do, you still have to keep paying all these expenses. Using an outsourcer, you simply pay for the work you want done – and nothing more!
