Martin Fothergill sent out invitations and liaisedwith each of the clubs, collecting names and money andtogether with Ken Mirams did a great job with keepingVGC and all parties aware of numbers. Tony McKennaprepared a report which appears later in the bulletin.

We received notification from Harry (Minimus) Robertsthat he has taken another long term contract in the Mid-

dle East; as such he will not be renewing his member-ship.

Confirmation has also been received from Harry(Maximus) Wolfe that the outcome from the move to thePeninsula has not allowed him to make meetings at thistime and was offered and has accepted Honorary Mem-bership and will attend meetings whenever he can.

We are now down to 44 members so it is important thatall members endeavour to find and invite potential mem-bers to achieve our target of 50 members.

The Council would like to provide a BargainHunters breakfast and have enquired whether theRotary Club of Beaumaris have a food van and beinterested in providing the breakfast but of course

we do not have a van but we are following up withCouncil to determine whether the Black Rock Parkfacilities would be suitable and could be used in asimilar fashion to the opening of the Park whereRCOB club worked with the Council.

Speaking of the Bayside Council, Martin Fothergillwill be presenting to the Bayside Council Tourismgroup on Thursday evening. They are still lookingfor a major project to replace Sculptures by the Bay.

It seems that the jewellery workshop was a great

success on Saturday with lots of great necklacesbeing produced by Susan, Kerrie, Penny Culshaw,Heather Chisholm, Pat Seager and others underthe expert tutelage of Heather DArcy. A follow upsession is planned for Saturday October 4 at SusanDe Bolfos abode.

On a sadder note Jill Phillips lost her motherthrough the week. Our thoughts and sympathiesare extended to Jill and her family.

Beaumaris Hosts the Second Founda-tion Seminar

    By Tony McKenna

    On Thursday, 19

    th

September President RobertMcArthur and the Rotary Club of Beaumaris had thepleasure of hosting the second District 9810 RotaryFoundation Information Seminar attended by some72 representatives of the clubs which make up thesouthern and central clusters of our district. Themeeting was chaired by John Barnes, District Foun-dation Committee Chairman and informed the audi-ence about raising funds and the recent changesregarding Rotary Grants.

In the first segment Graham Richardson gave us an

insightful overview of how Rotary Grants work andthe new requirements. Rotary Grants now fall underone of two categories District Grants or GlobalGrants and naturally each has a different set of crite-ria to qualify. We then heard from several speakerswho spoke passionately about some of the projectscurrently being undertaken. The projects included a medical centre in Fiji, com-puters for schools, water filters and health testing inIndonesia, Interplast projects in the Pacific Regionand water & sanitation projects on West Sumba Is-land in Indonesia. Speakers were Greg Wragg, Gra-

ham Woolacott, Glenda Sherwin-Lane and BillChapman.

In the second segment John Barnes and GrahamWoolacott spoke about fund raising for the Founda-tion and the various ways members can contribute.Funds received by the Rotary Foundation basicallycome from two sources Club Giving and PersonalGiving. There are several ways individuals can con-tribute, each involving different levels of giving. These are the Arch C Klumph Society, Major Do-nors, Bequest Society Members, Benefactors, Paul

    Harris Society andthe Centurion Club.

    John was pleased

    to advise that Dis-

    trict 9810 raised a

    district recordUS$286,000 last

    year for the Annual

    Programs Fund.

Our district was #1 in Australia for per capita giving

and #15 in the world. Congratulations and keep up

    the good work.
