There are many things going on, however I will mention some of these: GSE we have Kerrie in Malaysia leading the team, and Tony McKenna is an active member of the district GSE commit- tee Our Sculptures project well on the way to becoming a reality with the great work being done by Greg and Martin. I see this as becoming our “Signature Community Project” Another successful Masters golf parking fundraiser thanks to Roy and his team of volunteers. We also had a “leaflet hand -out team” handing out information on our Sabu project and promoting our Charity Golf day. With our webmaster David continuing to do a sterling job, our website is getting better and better. It is also now fitted with a “donate now” button, so we can receive donations online Judi is busy organising the Bunnings sausage sizzle for 24 th December volunteers needed! Adrian has many things happening in Community, with a stand at our local Concourse shopping centre on 24 Nov and the Concourse festival in December. Also we contributed half the cost for a special wheelchair which was presented to the Beaumaris Bowls Club on 23 Nov. This was organised by Mal Parks (photos?). Heather has an excellent rollup for our fellowship night this week, which is a local production of popular TV show, The Vicar of Dibley. She is also organising our BRAGG golf and BBQ evening at Patterson Lakes Country Club on 5 December. Trish will give a presentation at Mentone Girls Secondary College on Interact. International are busy discussing with other Rotary clubs ways to assist Pastor Franz on Sabu Island. Vratka has, through her own efforts, raised a significant amount of funds which she has sent off to Peter Gray’s CCASVA project in Cambodia. Well done Vratka. It was a wonderful to have Sallie Geary attend our meeting. We were able to return to her some of her “earnings” from the Masters car parking, which will go towards her expenses for her upcoming exchange trip to Europe. We hope that we can keep in touch with this delightful young lady. It was also a pleasure to have Roy Norris, Judy Porrit, Sherril Duffy, as well as Pat and Shirley as our guests. PRESIDENT’S COMMENT

I thoroughly enjoyed our last meeting, especially seeing theextent of what our great club is doing. There are many thingsgoing on, however I will mention some of these:

GSE – we have Kerrie in Malaysia leading the team, andTony McKenna is an active member of the district GSE commit-tee

Our Sculptures project – well on the way to becoming areality with the great work being done by Greg and Martin. Isee this as becoming our “Signature Community Project”

Promoting Rotary at Beaumaris Concourse.

Beaumaris Rotarians took to the street on Saturday,promoting our club and projects to shoppers at theConcourse. As well as raising awareness of Rotary inour community we raised $288. Many thanks to allmembers who helped out.

Notes on District Presidents Meeting

9 November 20131. PDG Juliet - Seeking nominations for the Nomi-

nating committee for DG 2014/15. Letter willbe sent out – anyone interested?

2. DG Brian is looking for nominations for theShine On award

3. DG Brian suggested clubs look at taking on a“Peace project”. Rotary club of M.A.S.H. is agood example with their Peace Forum project(promoting peace in our community, particular-ly amongst young refugees that have comefrom a violent environment)

4. John Barnes spoke about Future Vision andpromoted the District Foundation Dinner. DSGsand MGs are still available. D9810 is quali-fied to operate in Future Vision 2013/14 on-wards. There will be a grants seminar nextyear.

5. DGE Merv Ericson discussed upcoming PETS(March 2013?). He may include a multi-districttraining session – letter to be sent out to allclubs.

6. David Alexander spoke about his project, busi-ness partnering, and the brochure he has pro-duced (using a matching grant). (Note: KenMirams and Peter Flude will be using this bro-

chure to spread the word and to engage busi-nesses with RCOB, both from a marketing andfund raising perspective).

7. District are hopeful that within the next yearthere will be both a Charitable Services Fundand a Disaster Relief Fund set up to allow tax

deductible deductions

Beaumaris Bowls Club Press ReleaseRotary Presents Wheelchair toBeaumaris Bowls Club

The Rotary Club of Beaumaris haspresented the Beaumaris Bowls Clubwith a converted bowls wheelchair.Bowls member Graeme Watkins who suffered seri-ous spinal and other injuries some 2.5 years ago hasundergone extensive physiotherapy where he is ableto bowl again.Graeme said “he was absolutely delighted to bebowling with his mates, and thanked members ofboth clubs”.

Bowls Club Board Chairman Malcolm Parks who isalso a member of the Rotary Club of Beaumaris ar-ranged for the wheel chair to be donated by his

brother, and then approached Rotary and membersof the Bowls Club to share the cost of the conversionof the chair. This included the supply and installationof wider wheels, anti roll bars, and a special cushiondesigned for spinal patients.

Rotary President John Manks made the presentationto the Club last week and said “ Rotary was verypleased to help sporting clubs and individuals in thelocal community, and was a good example of clubsworking together for the benefit of others”.

This Week’s Speaker; Andrew Peach Topic; EVOLVE, Keeping Kids on Track

Andrew is a teacher who is involved with the Evolveprogramme. This programme commenced with a be-quest of a 8 hectare proper-ty near Mount Warrick,South East of Benalla.

EVOLVE’S Mission is; Providing a supportive envi-ronment for disadvantagedyoung people to evolve intoSTRONG, CARING & PUR-POSEFUL individuals.

Participants in the pro-

grammes include those withDepression & Anxiety Issues,Disengaged From School &Community, showing Anti-Social Behaviour, and a History of Abuse or Trauma.

The Programme fundamentals include;Participants are Voluntary,Provides Challenge,Builds Self Esteem,Develops Vital Life Skills.

The Programme includes;Referral & Application,A 12-day 100KM+ hike,A period of Station Life ,A Celebration Day with family and friends,On-going Home Support and

Follow Up Programs.

The follow up programmes proceed for 12 to 24months and are considered to be essential for suc-cessful outcomes.

The station has no modern conveniences. Participantshave to cut wood to heat water and to fire thestoves. They learn wood work and metalwork usingtraditional techniques as well as preparing and serv-ing meals.

A key focus is to teach that actions have consequenc-es and that “the person is not the problem the prob-lem is the problem”.

Positive outcomes include improvements in Education,Training, Employment, Home life and Communityengagement.

The program is very cost effective as indicated bythis comparison;

Victorian Juvenile Justice Facility$1,020 per day, per childVictorian Supported Accommodation$465 per day, per childEvolving Stories Programme - $12 per day, per childEvolving Learning & Evolving Lives Programme- $10 per day, per child.

The current programme situation is one of IncreasingDemand with a Huge Potential For Expansion howev-er the on-going Funding Situation is Tenuous.

The main funding sources are;Trusts & Foundations – 48%Other (Fee for service etc) - 31%Government Contributions – 11%Private Philanthropy - 7%Community Service Groups – 3%Corporate Philanthropy – ~1%

EVOLVE also runs a 60 hectare property in Queens-land.
