O’Reilly Hospitality Management, LLC, has announced plans to build the area’s newest convention and conference center. The DoubleTree Convention Center will be located just west of the DoubleTree by Hilton at 2431 N. Glenstone Ave., and will be completed in 2018. They will also be adding a Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott to the property. The plan has been in the works for several years but started to take shape when O’Reilly Hospitality Management, LLC, the company that owns and operates the DoubleTree, purchased the lot north of the hotel. Brian Inman, General Manager of the DoubleTree by Hilton says, “We’re building this world-class convention center with state-of-the-art technology, equipment, and appeal that will compete in this region for group business. We feel that what we have is a winning combination. There’s been a big demand to have this facility and there is a need in this area.” The new convention center will be 10,000 square feet and will have seating capacity for 500, banquet-style. This triples the seating capacity and doubles the square footage of the current ballroom located at the facility, which will remain open even after the center is completed. There will also be a 200-spot parking garage constructed on site for the use of the hotel and convention center complex guests. The Fairfield Inn & Suites will have 103 rooms and some smaller meeting spaces. The project is targeted to be certified LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver, a green rating system for buildings. The DoubleTree is an award-winning sustainability property and the commitment to sustainability they’ve exhibited will be extended to the new facilities as well. The design of the new center will be modern and the DoubleTree Hotel will also undergo its own facelift so the facilities look and feel like a cohesive unit. Inman says, ”We’re excited for it and it will bring great revenue to the city. Group business is more than just us. It will bring people who will eat in restaurants, shop in stores, and fill up with gas. That impacts the entire economy. We feel that’s a win not just for us but for Springfield.”

There’s been a big demand to have this facility and there is a need in this area.”

The new convention center will be 10,000 square feet and will have seating capacity for 500, banquet-style. This triples the seating capacity

and doubles the square footage of the current ballroom located at the facility, which will remain open even after the center is completed.
