Weneeda"TESTTONE",basicallyasinesweepcontainingalthefrequencieswecanhear...justclickon"TestToneGen",usethedefaultsettings(24bit,44100Hz(orsuperior,bestis96000Hz),mono,12sec.,DON'TCHECK"applyfadeinoutforreverse")andclickon"generate".

Ok,nowweneedtoroutethatwavefileinsidetheCab/Micwewanttocapture...soyouhavetoroutethefileinsidethepowerampofyourhead(fxreturnorpowerampin)andrecordthecaboutputwiththemic...Justconnectyoursoundcardoutputtothepowerampandrecordthemicsignal(youcouldneed2pcorasoundcardthatallowsyoutoplayandrecordatthesametime...youcoulddothatwithaDAW).BewaretheclippingoftheTestTone!!!Itdoesn'thavetoclip!!!Lowerthevolume!!!

It'smoreorlessthesamething,justeasier!WeneedtoopenourDAWandcreateamonotrack,thenloadtheTestToneonit.NowwehavetoopentheVSTfromwhichwewanttotaketheimpulseresponseinthetrackinsert,forexampleGR.Nowwehavetocloseorbypassallthecomponentswedon'tneed(stomps,amps...)andactivateonlythecab+micsection.PlaytheToneTestnowtoseeifitclipsinsideourVST.Ifso,lowerthevolumeorusethe"learn"function!Whatwehearwhenweclick"play"isjusttheToneTestprocessedbytheVST,andthisiswhatweneed,soexportthefileintoa.wavfile!

Forboth,then...

Obviously,ifyouhavecreateda96KHztesttone,youhavetorecordatthesamesamplerate!!!

Exporttherecordedtoneona24bitWaveMonofile.IMPORTANT:whenyouexport,remembertoaddabitofsilenceattheendoftheclipyou'reabouttoexport!!!
