About Healthwatch Hillingdon
Set up under the Health & Social Care Act 2012Established 1st April 2013 Replaced Hillingdon LINk Independent Company Limited by GuaranteeRegistered Charity8 Volunteer Board Members 4 Staff transferred from LINkContracted by Hillingdon CouncilHealthwatch England - leads and supports the national network of 152 local Healthwatch.
Our Mission
To become the influential and effective voice of the public and give adults, young people, children and communities a stronger voice to influence and challenge how health and social care services are provided within Hillingdon.
What has Healthwatch been set up to do?
Gather the views and experiences of local people
Make views known to commissioners and providers
To help people get the best out of their health and social care
To use statutory ‘enter and view’ visiting powers
Provide people with information, advice and support
Provide an advocacy service (provided by VoiceAbility)
Work with other local Healthwatch
Provide Healthwatch England with intelligence and insight
How we will do thisENGAGE
Working with organisations, community networks, groups and individuals we will gather the experiences and views of local people about local health & social care services.
INFLUENCEWe will let the decision-makers know about people experiences, how services can be improved and work with them to improve services.
•ENABLEThrough training and support, we will empower individuals and sections of the community, especially those that are seldom heard, to play their part in improving Hillingdon’s health and social care services
•INFORMProvide an advice and information service about access to local health & social care services.
Our achievements so far?
ENGAGING Built relationships with commissioners and providers of
services
Gathered evidence on patient experience of Accident & Emergency, Maternity and Domiciliary Care and are working with providers and commissioners to improve service quality
INFLUENCING Have seats at over 30 strategic meetings and working
groups ensures the public has a voice to influence services and enables us to inform the public
Built our credibility to enable commissioners and providers to value working with Healthwatch Hillingdon
Our achievements so far?
ENABLING Whilst developing Healthwatch we have continued and
built upon the work of LINk from the first day of operation
We continue to recruit, train and empower volunteers to enable them to help improve services in their community
INFORMING We are providing an information and signposting service
from our shop helping people to access local services
Keeping people informed on health and social care services.
e.g. Partnered Age UK to deliver a dementia workshop to 70 diverse elders
e.g. Keeping residents up to date on service changes
Setting Strategic Priorities
To improve the health and wellbeing of the adults, young people and children of Hillingdon
Improve the quality, safety and equity of access to health and social care services for all residents
Strategic involvement in the broad spectrum of commissioning changes within health and social care
Ensuring that Healthwatch Hillingdon becomes a recognised and effective Patient Champion for the people of Hillingdon
