Please keep yard lights on from dusk to dawn .
NEIGHBORHOOD MATTERS
THEFT --- Just a reminder to keep your outside
lights on at night which may help to deter such culprits;
and, if you experience or witness a crime, please be sure
to report it to the authorities. ~ A few months ago, I could
tell something was not quite right when I noticed a tube of my lipstick sitting on my driveway as I walked towards
my car to go to work....and then I saw the car door ajar....
I had left the back seat window cracked open due to the
summer heat and someone managed to get their fingers over the window and force it down by 6" or so to unlock the back and front doors....emptied the contents of a
purse (with no wallet in it) and rifled through the storage
compartment....but basically there was nothing of value
for them to steal except maybe a folded up $20 bill stored
for emergencies in the compartment.
PRANKS – Kids have been known to run around the
neighborhood ringing door bells late at night. Some residents have also seen rolls of toilet paper and pallets
of eggs by the trail, too --- just waiting to be used. Please
continue to report such things to authorities. Also, let your children know that some of these instances have
been caught on film by some neighbors and shared with
the authorities, so it is just a matter of time before some
of these pranksters will be confronted themselves!
HALLOWEEN --- Decorations are starting to go up around the neighborhood. The press has provided a bit of encourgement to discourge treaters from dressing as scary clowns to the extent that even Ronald MacDonald has cut back appearances! So, with this in mind, plesae consider the children this holiday and keep scary décor for inside your homes, if possible. Also, remember to turn on your outside lights or treaters will bypass your home. And….remember to drive safely as children will be darting about that evening.
HOMEOWNER’S DUES --- A few residents still need to pay association dues. We need your support to sustain our beautiful neighborhood. Please make payment arrangement with our Treasurer, Eldon Anderson, by calling 338-1950. (Late fees and legal actions are taken, when needed, at resident’s expense.)
FALL LEAVES ~ STORM DRAINS - If you have a storm drain in front of your property, please make sure
to keep debris from clogging it. The leaves are
beginning to fall and will easily clog the drains which can lead to flooded/frozen streets.
Helping Hands Offered:
Please provide names of children or teens looking to help others….residents can use a hand with shoveling snow; cutting grass; pulling weeds; or babysitting children or pets and they are willing to pay a reasonable price, too!
FIRE - Most have heard about the recent fire at
our neighbor’s home on Curricle Run. The Brown family (Justin, Ashley, 3 yr old Chandler, and 3 mo old Norah) and their dog all
survived but their home was a total loss (including Justin’s
magic tricks, Chandler’s tricycle and one of their vehicles). The
cause of the fire was traced back to a pool heat pump which
ignited and spread to the side paneling (which burns like paper, one Fire Fighter said) up the wall of the home and into the attic
vents. The Brown family extends their gratitude to the fire
departments that assisted that night and to all of their
wonderful neighbors, friends and family that immediately
stepped forward to offer support. The Brown’s will be rebuilding and hope to be in their new home in approximately 6 months. The Cat in The Hat paid a visit to their temporary
home to deliver a bicycle and rocking horse (actually named
Lucky) to Chandler while he awaits his new home. Also, to
support the various requests from neighbors that wanted to do
something for the family, a “GOFUNDME” page was set up at https://www.gofundme.com/2rs9f8q4 ~ If you have any
questions in this regard, call Karen @ (260) 413-6471.
COMMUNITY GUIDELINES:
PLACE TRASH RECEPTACLES AND RECYCLING BINS IN YOUR GARAGE AFTER TRASH PICK-UP and out of sight of your neighbors and the street. There are a couple rebels that feel this does not apply to them or they may have another personal issue that they feel offsets the need to put their bins out of public view…and to them---I say, it is sad that you don’t feel the need to uphold the high standards everyone else supports to make your community a desirable place to live. Please reassess your reluctance to cooperate with LaCabreah’s community guidelines or, at least consider wrapping your bins with holiday paper this winter to make it less of an eyesore! But, honestly, if you feel our guidelines are too restrictive to support, please consider other viable options that would bring you a more peaceful state of mind. ~ just saying…..
GARAGE SALE --- LaCabreah sponsors one garage sale in the spring (on the Saturday following Mother’s day in May); The Board is considering having another garage sale in the fall if the community is interested (please em [email protected] to provide your feelings about a fall sale and which month you might prefer, Aug/Sep/Oct). If residents want to have a garage sale other than the sponsored event, please restrict sign posting to your yard or newspaper ad. Signs posted throughout the addition or at the entrance will be asked to be removed.

Neighbors! I hope you are all getting ready for fall. If you haven’t heard, two special board members moved outside of our community this year (Sonja Skender & Chris Kreilach). They both did a super job while on the board and will be missed. Board elections will be coming up in March 2017, so there’s plenty of time to think about running for a board position. The meeting location will be announced at a later date. ~ WELCOME to new neighbors (noted earlier in this newsletter)! Dupont Library’s ”Paws to Read” Program
The “Paws to Read” program allows kids to read to dogs every Wed from 4-5pm. Certified therapy dogs are panting to hear a good story and reading will help children build confidence in reading aloud. ~ Family Event ~ Plus different story time sessions for preschoolers (Wed/Thurs AM).
