TRANSCRIPT
This month July 2015, the
country observed the National Disas-
ter Consciousness Month. This cele-
bration highlighted the conduct of
Earthquake Drill which was simultane-
ously performed by different estab-
lishment/institutions of the country.
Last Thursday, July 23 at 8:30 am,
Mountain View College family ob-
served the national simultaneous
earthquake drill led by Mr. Rene Bi-
clar.
Due to time constraint, the
orientation for the said activity was
inadequate because of a very impor-
tant seminar that the safety coordina-
tor has to attend to, yet exhausted all
possibilities of providing information
to students and faculty on earthquake
disaster preparedness. Only building
A, B and C (library, computer rooms
and Oliverio Hall) classrooms and
offices in the said buildings have the
permanently installed evacuation
map.
The purpose of the earth-
quake drill is to have everybody ex-
perience what to do before, during
and after an earthquake. These en-
hance everyone’s capability for earth-
quake preparedness and evaluate the
teachers and students’ capability of
understanding and following direc-
tions in the evacuation map. This is at
the same time compliance to the re-
quirement of CHED to all educational
institutions.
EARTHQUAKE DRILL OBSERVATION The drill lasted about 11
minutes only. The instruction on the
audio was echoing and distracted the
clearness of instruction. The conduct
manifested inadequate orientation
because some students passing the
stairway of building A & B took the
pathway facing the Cafeteria and the
Onyx Hall passed in between interna-
tional flagpoles in front of the admin
when they are expected to take the
wide road in front of flagpole on their
way to the evacuation area. The poles
are a prospective danger from falling
and hitting passers-by during the
evacuation.
Students were just talking
and laughing while the evacuation
was going on. Some started to move
our while the siren was going on. The
sound system instruction was audible
but the words were not clearly heard.
There were no evacuation maps in-
stalled in the dormitories, nursing
building, cafeteria, auditorium, col-
lege store and fast foods and medi-
cal clinic.
There is a need to schedule
for thorough instructions on earth-
quake drill to all faculties especially
teaching faculty. Each faculty should
take it as a responsibility to evaluate
their preparedness for earthquake
calamity.
Positive observation A good number of students
and faculty participated which indi-
cated cooperation of the community
and the checking of persons in the
evacuation area was implemented.

God knows best. He knows what is best for me. He really knows best. We know that true but when we are in the middle of stress,
fear, anxiety and blatant unknowns, it is difficult fact to hold on. So, we pray and pray and pray for God to do something.
Usually we even tell Him what to do, which kind of negates the whole ―God knows best‖ idea. But, the point is that we do turn to
Him and of course, we tell Him what we want, because that is what we people do. Have you noticed, though, that as we are instruct-
ing Him, our prayers subtly begin to change? Prayer does not necessarily change God or His plans, but as we spend more time with Him, it does
change us and what we desire. It aligns us more with what God had in mind all along. So, yes, prayer changes things.
“ Prayer changeth not God, but changeth those who pray. ” —Pamela Deed
Editor’s Note I call on You, for You will answer me; turn Your ear to me and hear my prayer.”
