Classroom NewsGrade JKThank you to the parents who helped during our ‘I Want To Be A Scientist’ workshop. It was a great suc-cess as the students did hands on activities related to astronomy, paleontology, physics, meteorology and chemistry. In Bible we heard a couple of stories about how Jesus taught the people to pray. Until the end of the school year, we will offer a special prayer for the Su-perKid of the day. He/She will also come home with a ‘Special Effort’ page that highlights the character traits that we appreciate about him/her. On Monday, June 19th, we will celebrate our great year together by going to Clarke Fields with our reading buddies and playing some games and sharing some treats with each other. Show & Tell (Mon. Mya), (Wed. Jerome), (Fri. Land-on)

Our first Forest of Reading book club at OCS was a great success!! Thank you to all those that helped make it hap-pen. Although we are finished for this school year, we are looking ahead to the next school year to assemble our book club team now. Did your children enjoy the book club this year? If yes, parents please consider joining the book club team now to keep this initiative going for our OCS students in the upcoming school year. A team of 3 to 4 parents would be ideal to share the organization of the club. This would also count towards your volunteer hours. If you have a love for reading and are interested in joining the book club team or have questions about book club and what would be involved, please contact our librarian Alta MacFie at [email protected] or Angela McLin-ton at [email protected]. Thank you for your consideration.

Forest of Reading Book Club

Grade SKWe had a great week being germ detectives and start-ing our Pete the Cat unit. Thanks to all the parents who came with us to Loblaws! We are very excited to make our own grocery store in the classroom. Next week we have our year end party at Hibiscus park on Friday. We will leave at 11:30 and come back for the end of the day. It is a splash pad, so please be sure to bring a swimsuit, sunscreen, towel and an easy lunch that can be eaten at the park. If you can drive to the park, please let Denise know. On Friday, we will also be having smoothies with Grade 1 to finish our Safe and Healthy unit. We bought our supplies at the gro-cery store and Grade 1 is bringing special fruits to add to the smoothies. If you would like to bring some washed, cut fruit to add, please do! (However, it is a busy day and we should have enough with our sup-plies and Grade 1’s fruit.) Show and Tell: Did you read a sign? Take a picture of it and send it to Mrs. Vedder’s e-mail address.

Grade 1Flat René has returned from his adventures! He had a great time in British Columbia and Hawaii and was able to ski, hike through the Hawaiian jungle, and see a volcano. We’re so excited that all of our flat selves have returned! Author’s Tea - next Friday will be our Author’s Tea. Please be sure to send in your RSVP as soon as pos-sible. Looking forward to seeing many of you there. Nutrition Celebration - we will be finishing off our Germs and Nutrition unit with SK next Friday as well. We’re asking each student to bring in a small container of cut up fruit to add to our healthy fruit smoothies that morning. Please label your containers so we can be sure to get them back to you. Thank you!

Grade 2We have have nearly completed our spelling for the year. The Blue group is on lesson 30 and Red on les-son 25. The whale projects are due on Monday, June 5, but if your children need to do a few finishing touches on Monday afternoon, they may also hand them in on June 6. A note will go home with the children indicat-ing the day they will be presenting their project.

Grade 3Our field trip to Upper Canada Village will be taking place this coming Tuesday (June 6th) rain or shine! We will be leaving the school around 9:30am and return around 2:30pm. Please ensure your child is dressed ap-propriately for the weather (i.e. rain boots if needed) and packs enough lunch, snacks and water for the day. A few reminders for next week:

» Spelling: There will be no spelling tests next week. » Bible: We are now studying the story of Moses

and the Book of Exodus. Memory work has been as-signed. The verse is Nehemiah 9:9-12 and it is due by Monday June 12th.

» Math: We are studying fractions. Continued practice of multiplication facts at home is strongly encouraged as we work on mastering facts each week.Look for the small quiz sheets being sent home to know what facts your child still needs to work on. They move on to the next set once they answer all 50 questions correctly.

Blessings on your week!

Hello OCS family and friends, Time to place your summer TRIP card orders. Here's how it works: First, think of all the events coming up in the months of June, July and August; Wed-dings, birthdays, showers, Fathers day, family road trips, family days to the movies etc... Then, think of all your basic needs: food, gas, clothes, back to school shopping etc.... Place all those orders on one form. Get it to us no later then June 9th. You'll have the total order by the last day of school. Please label the top of your order “SUMMER OR-DER” Payment options : You can pay in 1, 2 or 3 post-dated cheques. We realize that paying for 3 months of supplies at once is just not realistic for most. You can give a cheque for June, July and August if that suits your needs best. BEST OF ALL: The school and your child/ren benefit! Be blessed, The TRIP team P.S. For those of you that have standing orders, you do not need to re-do your order. We will send your July and August orders in June. If you wish to cancel or change July and August, please let us know as soon as possible.
