IMPACT REPORTOCTOBER 2018 - SEPTEMBER 2019
We are Scouts – we are the Girl ScoutsThe Impact Report, as this publication is titled, is designed to spotlight all the wonderful things that have occurred across the council in the last year. But as you read it, I encourage you to view it through the lens of the intentional title – impact.
As you will see, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois has impacted the lives of over 13,000 girls and their families because we aren’t just working to improve the lives of the girls we serve but their families and communities as well. Whether it’s through outdoor activities, STEM or financial literacy education for girls, those who are on the receiving end of the impact are not only the girls but their families, schools, communities and future employers. Data tells us that Girl Scouts are more likely to be altruistic, civic-minded, entrepreneurial, and interested in pursu-ing careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
In this time of political divisiveness, social media bravado and schoolhouse bullying, Girl Scouts are standing up for girls and women everywhere, and their position is insuring that being a sister to every Girl Scout and every human being can make an impact. Theirs is not just a tee shirt slogan when they say, “you can sit with us,” “I will not be shaken,” “be the change,” or “dare to dream big.” We see examples of our Girl Scouts in all thirty-eight counties we serve living these words every day for impact!
In this ever-increasing environment of social-emotional crisis for our young women today, Girl Scouts is reaching out to every girl everywhere to positively impact her psychological well-being by providing her with coping tools, trained and safety-insured role models and mentors, and friends she can lean on now and forever.
Whether Girl Scout staff, volunteer, girl or parent, to you we say THANK YOU for an impactful year of bringing Girl Scouting to thousands. If you’ve not yet had the pleasure to make this level of impact in the life of a girl, join us so that you too can be proud of the lifelong impact you can make in helping us build girls of courage, confidence and character who have a true impact on making the world a better place.
Pam KovacevichCEO, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois2
For over 100 years, Girl Scouts has given girls the tools to lead, break barriers, and create positive change. These are the girls and young women who dream big and do bigger. There’s never been a better time to be part of a Girl Scout troop, share the experience with friends and family, or volunteer with Girl Scouts. Regardless of her race, class, or religion, every girl has a home at Girl Scouts.
Everything a Girl Scout does - whether it’s climbing mountains, speaking her mind, or dreaming up new technology - has been developed especially for, and is tested by, girls. Girl Scouts is a world where girls can do, and be, whatever they dream.
For girls. By girls.
I will do my best to behonest and fair, friendly and helpful, considerate and caring, courageous and strong, andresponsible for what I say and do, and to respect myself and others, respect authority, use resources wisely, make the world a better place, and be a sister to every Girl Scout.
Girl Scout Law
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Our MissionOn my honor, I will try: To serve God and my country, To help people at all times, And to live by the Girl Scout Law.

Why Girl Scouts?
“This experience has given me the opportunity to put others first and take the perspective of others who may not have the same chances as I had in my childhood. Taking the knowledge I now have forward, I will work hard to motivate whoever I come across to challenge themselves, because that is the only way you can see if you are really willing to persist
in making the world a smarter and positive place.” – Rachel Gatewood, Gold Award Girl Scout
“I hear feedback from the parents about the girls talking about topics we have discussed or things we have done. I have also seen positive changes in some of the girls -- being more confident, playing together at school, etc. It makes me feel like I am making a
difference in their lives.” – Girl Scout Volunteer

Why Girl Scouts?
“I learned how to communicate better with young children, this included how you speak to little kids, body language, and positive reinforcement. I also learned the specific leadership skill of being able to instruct an entire room of students using a calm but effective voice to maintain their attention and full work ethic. I learned that I enjoy teaching dance, coming up with lesson plans myself, inspiring young kids with my dance experience, making my own choreography, and that I enjoy working with kids and
seeing them succeed.”
– Grace Lynch, Gold Award Girl Scout
“It gave me purpose to make these girls’ life better. To show them things and to do things with them that they may not have otherwise. To show them how to be respectable, honorable little girls of the community. To teach them the Girl Scout way I was brought up
with.” – Girl Scout Volunteer
