About us
Imperial Health Charity helps our hospitals do more through grants, arts, volunteering and fundraising.
We fund major redevelopments, clinical research and medical equipment at five London hospitals as well as helping patients and their families at times of extreme financial difficulty.
Supporting the arts in healthcare, we manage an Arts Council accredited hospital art collection and run an arts engagement programme for patients and NHS staff.
We also manage volunteering across all five hospitals, adding value to the work of staff and helping to improve the hospital experience for patients.
Fundraising through major appeals and community events enables us to continue our essential work.

The roleWe are driven by the desire to make a positive difference to patient care in our hospitals and to do this we need the right people to join the charity.
We are looking for a highly experienced Impact and Evaluation Manager to join our small but dynamic grants team.
This new post is an exciting opportunity to lead on the monitoring and evaluation of our grants portfolio. In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Grants and the Grants Manager to demonstrate the impact of the grants we award.
The post holder will be responsible for developing an overarching evaluation framework across the charity, including our volunteering, fundraising and arts programme activities. The post holder will lead on the implementation of this evaluation framework across the charity in order to effectively measure our impact.
It will be vital that you are able to apply your own working knowledge, skills and experience to capture the outputs and outcomes of our activities, and to help demonstrate the difference our funding is making.
The post holder will have the opportunity to shape and influence current processes and procedures and to contribute to the charity’s decision making and strategy.
Role purpose:To lead on the monitoring and evaluation of Imperial Health Charity’s activities for the grants team.
Location: Charity Office, Edgware Road
Position: Full-time, 35 hours per week
Salary: £35,000-£38,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Notice period: 2 months

The grants team at Imperial Health Charity oversees the awarding of grants to fund major capital projects, research and medical equipment, as well as helping patients at times of extreme financial difficulty.

Our grants programme
Since 2009, the charity has provided grants worth more than £34 million to over 500 projects and research studies.
We support staff, patients and the surrounding communities, striving to achieve great science, excellent patient care and healthier communities.
We provide funding via the following schemes:
• Dresden Hardship Fund • Small Grants Fund• Research Fellowships• Special Purpose Funds
Hospital projects we have funded include:
• Multi-million-pound refurbishment projects to renovate the A&E department at St Mary’s Hospital and the outpatients departments at Hammersmith Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and the Western Eye Hospital
• Supporting an innovative family-delivered neonatal care programme to help the parents of premature babies
• Funding weekly art sessions to improve the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of stroke patients

Main duties and responsibilities
1. Improve our understanding of our current grants portfolio
• Develop knowledge of the various projects funded by the charity across the hospital sites and recognise the links between the various grants schemes
• Deliver in-depth analysis and insight into the outputs, outcomes and impact of the charity’s grants portfolio
• Build effective relationships with current grant holders
2. Ensure we have the right information to assess impact effectively
• Develop and implement robust impact and evaluation for all grants schemes, in consultation with the Head of Grants and the Grants Manager
• Make recommendations and implement effective mechanisms for maintaining and collating accurate qualitative and quantitative data on the grants portfolio
• Produce information on the impact and evaluation of the charity’s grants for the grants team, to be used for development work
• Work with the charity’s communications team to provide impact information and case studies for external audiences
• Produce reports for the grants team, senior management team, charity committees and trustees on the impact of the charity’s grants
3. Lead on demonstrating our impact within the NHS charity sector
• Take ownership of the ongoing project with the ‘Maddox Group’: Developing a shared measurement toolkit for the NHS charity sector
• Liaise with, assist and build relationships with other funding bodies
• Create and deliver reports for the Head of Grants and charity trustees

4. Lead on developing and implementing impact and evaluation of other activities within the charity
• Develop knowledge of the various volunteering, fundraising and arts activities across the hospital sites, and recognise the links between various initiatives
• Deliver in-depth analysis and insight on the outputs, outcomes and impact of these activities and the grants portfolio
• Make recommendations to improve cross-working between the charity’s departments to optimise impact and evaluation
• Work with the communications team to raise the public profile of the charity through case studies and other marketing collateral
5. General duties
• Support the wider work of the grants team where required• Continually review procedures and systems, and recommend
improvements to contribute to the team’s efficiency and effectiveness
• Assist the Head of Grants and the Grants Manager in the grants team’s development work

The personQualifications and education
Essential
• Educated to degree level or higher• Experience of grants management, impact and evaluation
(minimum three years in a similar role)
Desirable
• Advanced research degree (MSc or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent work experience
• Professional qualification or equivalent training experience in evaluation approaches
Skills and knowledge
Essential
• Significant demonstrable knowledge in the field of monitoring, evaluation and impact
• Demonstrable academic understanding of quantitative and qualitative measures, and confidence in analysing and interpreting data
• Demonstrable understanding of evaluation approaches and theories
• Excellent numerical, statistical and analytical skills with proven ability and experience of using these to analyse data, and write clear and concise analysis
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail• Excellent MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build a strong
rapport with colleagues and grant holders

• Proven ability to influence stakeholders at all levels and present complex information
Experience

• Experience of grants management, from pre-award to post-award, including advising, assessing, monitoring and evaluating grants
• Experience of working with online grants management systems
• Demonstrable experience of evaluating impact in the charitable funding sector
We are looking for an experienced Impact and Evaluation Manager with strong statistical and analytical skills
