There is a scientific need to develop and standardize the

components of undergraduate education so as to make it

‘Balanced Education’ (on the pattern of Balanced Food)

needed to prepare the learner’s to face all challenges of life

with an integrated personality development.

Balanced education is constituted by the prescribed

combination of standardized and evidence based percentages

of various domains (Say,Cognitive=30%+Affective=10%

+Physical=10%+Spiritual=10%+Genetic=10%

+Environmental=10%+Social=10%+Temporal=10%).

INTRODUCTION(Contd.)

On the corollary of balanced food, it is being proposed that the standardized amounts of various essential components of all essential domains of education should constitute the balanced education.

INTRODUCTION(Contd.)

The current paper mainly, deals with the proposed details of Physical Education as an integral part of balanced education and environment. Physical activity and sports make the roots of all education.

INTRODUCTION(Contd.)

Many authors in management education give examples from physical education where athletes are trained for facing the sports competition challenges in wholistic domain preparations for body, heart, mind & soul. Bringing this change may turn the current system of education into a system of effective balanced education.

INTRODUCTION(Contd.)

Recently the term transformative

education (Mezirow, 1981) has also being used for effective education needed to bring transformation in the life and personality of the learner.

Delors Commission(UNESCO) in 1996 has referred to four pillars of education for holistically balanced education. These four pillars of education are listed as:

INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION(Contd.)

The present paper is an attempt to motivate

like-minded physically educated people to become instrumental for bringing a paradigm change in undergraduate education involving the largest number of youth being prepared by the universities for shouldering the future responsibilities to expedite the objectives enlisted by UNO in its millennium development goals 2015. The content matter of this conceptual paper is presented in simple language arranged in following parts :

THE VISION

Each child gets a second birth after getting proper rearing and education just as a girl gets another birth at marriage by shifting from parents to in-laws home.

Hence a child’s rearing and education to adulthood through undergraduate education must be based on evidence based ideal undergraduate curriculum on the pattern of national curriculum framework prepared by NCERT for school children in the year 2000; as also recommended in 1996 by Delors Commission on Education (set by UNESCO) and explained recently by Mezirow (2004) in transformative education.

We must learn from the past mistakes and accept the

above truths and take urgent measures. For example, Galileo Galilei was kept under house arrest for many years and Giordeno Bruno was burnt alive in 1600AD, for discovering and advocating Copernicus’s view point of Heliocentric (sun in the centre) solar system. It took more than 200 years to realize the benefit of factual knowledge that earth is a planet in the solar system. Till 1740 when, the English churches kept on punishing and even burning alive the scientists on the charges of heresy for advocating that earth is revolving round the sun. The fact of sun-centered solar system was discovered by Copernicus around 1520, what he was wise not to publically publish it to avoid punishment on the charges of heresy by the then authorities.

HOW TO ACHIEVE GOALS

Hence, it is high time we the physical educationists

take charge of the educational scenario and belie the wrongs of the current undergraduate system permanently harming our otherwise educated youth with unbalanced education.

Like the past precedence’s of letting the recommendations of evidence based research thrown in the dustbins, we should constitute a group in this conference to pursue the government to stop giving unbalanced education. This can only be done by balancing undergraduate university education to our youth through the following four steps:-

HOW TO ACHIEVE GOALS

By introducing a compulsory core component of

physical activity in all undergraduate courses like the language courses.

Based on the concepts and evidences presented in the present paper, Vice Chancellor of our university should be convinced to take up this matter in the next meeting of Vice-Chancellors held annually by AIU(Associations of Indian Universities) so as to resolve that physical activity content should be included as qualifying (2 to 4 credits) ‘personal and social emiront’ content in the compulsory Environmental Studies paper.

HOW TO ACHIEVE GOALS

All universities must start M.P.Ed. course to

produce physical activity teachers for the teaching of above course content to all undergraduate students of all the universities.

Each B.Ed. course must have a four credits compulsory paper of physical education to create

physical activity culture in the schools.

HOW TO ACHIEVE GOALS

As an architect determines the shape and

quality of the buildings, a good teacher determines the shape and quality of education being imparted to youth in the colleges.

Hence, we must provide physical activity education to all teacher training courses and to all undergraduate students for producing competent youth not only with full potentials of one’s genes but also ready to face any challenges caused by the dynamic environment.

I am sure seniors’ team efforts will bring PAT into play.

PAT stands for Physical Activity Technology for the service of educationists and all members of society.
