Celebrating the Blessing of Children

Kingdom Kids Closing Awards Ceremony Sunday, May 5 ~ 8:45 - 9:30am

Sponsored by: Immanuel Kingdom Kids Teaching Staff For All Sunday School Children and their Parents

Cupcakes, Juice and Coffee to be served

Jesus said, “Let the children come to Me and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of Heaven be-longs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14 We are once again at that time of the year where we find ourselves having to say, “Good-bye” to your little ones for a while as the summer months grace our lives. Your children have grown so greatly in their knowledge and devotion to their Lord and Savior; we are so excited for them! It has been wonderful to be part of their faith-filled walk with Jesus. Each year, the teaching staff comes together to lift high the name of Jesus and bring a greater understanding of His redeeming love to your children. We feel this past academic year has been a reflection of individual student growth, as well as a solid group exploration into new and ex-citing ways to learn about God. Thank you for the privilege and blessing to be part of your children’s lives in the study of God’s Word. Your children mean so much to us and we thank you for allowing them to be part of this special ministry for children at Immanuel Lutheran Church. God’s blessings to your family as we part for a short while over the joy-filled and carefree summer months. Please remember to encourage your children to continue in their understanding and devotion to their Heavenly Father through worship opportunities on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings at Immanuel. We greatly look forward to seeing your children re-turn to us in the fall when Kingdom Kids return on Sunday, September 8th. May is Confirmation Month

Time to start thinking about your Son or Daughter’s upcoming Confirmation Class

Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom.

Colossians 3:16

May God direct and lead you in such as time as this when your young adult now has the privilege to attend confirmation classes. As a family in Christ redeemed, I want to encourage you to make every effort in allow-ing your child to begin and continue his or her spiritual growth in the study of God’s Word through confirmation instruction classes. With a complete and thorough study of the Lutheran doctrine, your son or daughter will now take steps into their personal growth as a young Christian adult. As a parent, you are allowing your chil-dren the great gift of confirmation instruction and with that, the joy found in being a “child of God”. Beginning on September 8, Public School Confirmation Classes will meet on Sunday mornings at 8:45am at Immanuel Lutheran School in the 7th grade classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to call me at the church office 893-4088. Once again, I encourage you as a parent to plant the seeds of a faith-filled walk through confirmation instruction. As the months draw closer to September, more information will be coming your way. For now, please start thinking about this rite of passage for your son or daughter’s as part of their Christian faith. God’s Blessings to your family as you find in celebrating a new season of Christian growth and development with your son or daughter. In His leading, Betsy Bourassa PA in Christian Education and Youth Ministries

Special Voter's Meetings are scheduled for Sunday, April 28 and Sunday, May 5 following worship to vote on proposed changes to our Constitution and By-Laws. For details about these changes, Informational Meetings will take place on Tuesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 25 (both at 7PM in the MP Room).

Stewardship News

Becoming Money Wise

“So if you’ve not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?”

(Luke 16:11) In your daily life, money plays a major role. Because so much of life revolves around money and much of God’s Word speaks about money and possessions, you, as God’s steward, need to spend time in learning how to become a better steward of it. Whether God gives you little or lots of money, God expects you to manage it faithfully for Him. If you are wise and faithful with the money that He entrusts to you, you will one day hear God’s words, “Well done, good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21). To “Become Money Wise,” you need to be wise in the following five areas: (This month areas 3, 4 and 5 are presented.) 3. Becoming a Disciplined Saver As a Christian, a beginning goal is to allocate your money in a 10-10-80 ratio: give 10 percent, save 10 percent, and live on the remaining 80 percent. After you give the Lord His firstfruits, you put the second 10 percent in savings. Through a methodical discipline of putting money aside for the future, you develop a re-serve of money for current emergencies and put yourself in a better position to accomplish your short- and long-term goals as well as increase your ability to give. To make future goals possible, current sacrifices may need to be made. Perhaps you find the 10-10-80 Plan an impossible goal at this time, but the principle still works. Start by giving 5%, saving 5%, and using the remainder for your living expenses. Discipline is key and will pay you rich rewards. In time, little by little, you can increase the percentage you give and save, even surpassing the 10-10-80 mark! Maybe your goal is 20-20-60! Becoming a Smart Spender If you desire to give generously and save a lot, you need to keep your spending under control. With limited resources, your lifestyle choices will be a major factor in whether or not you will meet your financial goals as well as your giving and saving objectives. A key to financial freedom and security is to spend less on your lifestyle than you can afford. Unfortu-nately, most people find that, as their incomes increase, so do their needs and wants. Don’t be tempted to spend more just because you have more to spend. If you can stay focused on your goals, you will be able to spend less while still meeting your needs and the needs of those who are depending on you. 4. Becoming a Debt-free Steward Scripture does not forbid you from borrowing money, but it does discourage it. “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is servant to the lender” (Proverbs 22:7), wrote Solomon, the wise teacher. Each time you take on debt, you give up some of your freedom to a creditor. In essence, when a creditor or lender says, “Jump,” you ask, “How high?” Despite God’s warnings, we tend to let our dependence on debt contin-ue to grow.

During the month of March, Immanuel’s Food Pantry provided food for 8 families made up of 12 adults and 17 children. Our volunteers packed enough food for them to make 285 meals. The volunteers of the Food Pantry are so grate-ful to members of our church who get the local grocery ads and share the items that are on sale with the pantry so they can

stock up on the bargains. If anyone sees a good buy, please feel free to call Karen Couture at 894-0279 and let her know. Items that are needed this month are bars of soap, dish detergent and brown paper grocery bags. We want to thank every-

Join us Saturday, May 4 and Saturday, May 11, 8 a.m.- noon to clean and weed the grounds around the church and school. If you can only join us for an hour that would be wonderful. We have a lot of grounds to weed and prune at the Church and School and the more help we have the more we can accomplish in a short time. This is an oppor-tunity for high school students to earn volunteer hours. Please bring your own garden-ing supplies. Tree trimming tools are also needed. We plan on planting the Wednes-day before Confirmation Day, May 15

th at 9 am. Rainout date will be Thursday May

16th. Mulch will be spread Saturday, May 18 starting at 8 am. Contact Sharon Metevia

at 893-9911 or Laurie Allison at 892-7265 if you have questions or suggestions to help with the project.

If you would like to donate to help cover expenses, please turn in your donations to the church office in an envelope labeled ‘Flowers’ by Sunday May 12

th. Thank you in ad-

vance for your support in this effort.

What is it? Here We Ride is a FREE single-day bike-riding event that will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019 to comple-ment and celebrate the efforts of “The Reformation 500” exercise portion of the Here We Stand Campaign. It is being co-hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church and School and Zion Lutheran Church in Bay City

How does it work? Starting and finishing at Zion in Bay City, you and your family are encouraged to ride the distance you

choose: the Bay City Rail Trail is 9.6-miles (do as many loops as you’d like—or just turn around when it feels right. Serious cyclists may choose to begin their day with snacks and a devotion at 8:00 a.m. while other riders can choose to participate in a pre-ride prayer service and kickoff event at 9 a.m. before the big start at 10 a.m. A come-and-go family picnic will be held at Zion from 11:30-1 p.m. for riders, their families, and the community as they return from their ride.

Here We Ride will take place on the Bay City Rail Trail —a multi-use paved trail that skirts the Saginaw River and wanders through Bay City linking the full range of their community landscapes. There will be plenty of opportunities to rest and enjoy the scenery, with happy volunteers stationed along the route. Eve-ryone can ride (or walk or run) at their own pace.

As mentioned above, Here We Ride is intended to be entirely FREE for ALL PARTICIPANTS. However, participants (and families) are encouraged to collect pledges for the miles they will ride on that day. We ask that you give 50 percent of the money raised to your church or school for its ministry purposes, and the remaining 50 percent to the Here We Stand campaign initiatives. • We ask that all participants register on-line (and include any non-riding friends and family as well).
