Imagine DayPrior-to-Event Ideas• Use the flyer invitation in this kit to get your community excited about your

Imagine Day event. Post copies in shop windows. Mail them to civic leaders and community groups. Send to area schools and preschools.

• Contact your local newspaper and television news stations 4–6 weeks prior to your event to see if they’d be interested in covering your Imagine Day party. Decide ahead of time who will be the spokesperson for your event and direct all media inquiries to her/him.

• Research peace organizations and contact local affiliates to see if they’d like to come to your Imagine Day event to meet attendees, pass out materials, and answer questions about their group. With several groups represented, your event can have a fun Peace Fair component!

• Encourage all members of your community to perform “Imagine” in any way they wish and to record and share their performances. Invite church choirs, community leaders, students at local schools, piano and guitar students, senior center residents, preschool classrooms—any group in your community you can imagine—to participate. Performances can be group or solo singing, instrumental renditions, original dances, spoken word poetry, or anything your community can dream up! Create a loop of these videos and show them at your event. Post them to social media using the #ImaginePeace hashtag.

Day-of-Event Ideas• Gather the children together in your party space and read Imagine aloud. Discussion questions to pose after reading: What does the story want us to imagine? What does “peace” mean? How can we model peace in our homes? At school? In our community? What does peace in the world look like to you?

• Many children might not realize that the text of Imagine is a song lyric. Invite a local musician to play “Imagine” on the guitar or keyboard and teach the words to the children. If you can’t locate a musician, play a recording of John Lennon’s performance of “Imagine” and encourage the children to sing along. Record your sing-along and post it to social media using the #ImaginePeace hashtag.

• Encourage the children gathered to work together to use their bodies to spell out P-E-A-C-E. Have them spell I-M-A-G-I-N-E P-E-A-C-E if your group is large. Take a picture of the kids in formation and post it to social media using the #ImaginePeace hashtag.

• Have children and adults form a large circle with everyone holding hands. One by one, go around the circle and have each person say one word, in order, from these statements: “World peace begins with me” and “I can imagine peace.”

• From a craft store or website, purchase wooden letters that spell out IMAGINE and/or PEACE or make your own from poster board. Have various colors of washable paint or ink pads on hand and invite attendees to add their thumbprint to one of the letters. At the end of your event you’ll have a colorful display piece and reminder that your community has made their mark for peace.

Additional materials in this kit can be used at your event to invite children to #ImaginePeace!

My Pledge for PeaceThink about the conflicts that arise in your daily life at home with family, on the playground at school, and playing with friends. How might you resolve those conflicts in a peaceful way? Write your own peace pledge below. Sometimes it’s hard to find a peaceful solution, but it’s always important to try! Being kind and helpful is a great way to promote peace. Post this pledge on your bedroom door or on the family refrigerator so you’ll see it often and remember to strive for peace.

Cupcake ToppersPrint this page on card stock using a color printer. Cut out the toppers below and poke them into cupcakes if you serve them at your event. If you want them to be two-sided, print a second set and tape the images back-to-back before you insert. You can also stick these out of the tops of books to decorate your party space, or tape the points around a pencil to turn them into pencil toppers!
