PIETAby Jay Crisostomo IV

Language:Fil ipinoRunning Time: 1 Hour (without intermission)Notes: Not For Children

“It is about family and rel igion. Rage, lust, jealousy and other deceiving forms that ‘ love’ takes. About ‘fanaticism’ screwing the way one should raise her chi ldren, or ki l l her chi ldren. About the very strong rel igious pul l tugging with the very strong desire to keep a family together.”

-Ea Torrado, Choreographer

The play, despite its minimalist setting (al l events take place within the family’s humble home) and small cast, is anything but contained. Every scene pulses with naked emotion, and the actors completely commit to their roles within the family. - Andie Reyes, Katipunan Magazine

SYNOPSIS:The peaceful existence of a family that l ives in the provinces is suddenly bedimmed by the darkness of the world --- father fornicates with child, sister with brother, merciless revenges, unexplainable deaths, and the inevitable fruit of al l these evil labors: the birth of a monster, the embodiment of al l their familial sins. Their only hope l ies in the hands of the mother, Josef ina, as she desperately tries to hold her l ife and her family together. For no other tragedy can sunder a l ife more than when a parent is made to bury her child. Witness her search for l ight against the hand of darkness.

HAMLETWritten by Will iam Shakespeare

Language: EnglishRunning Time: 2 hours (with a f ifteen minute intermission)Notes: A classic retold in a modern way

SYNOPSIS:One of the Bard’s best loved works, Hamlet is considered by many scholars as the greatest piece of l iterature to have ever come from the West. Even if the play is more than four hundred years old, its themes of existential ism, family, and revenge are sti l l al ive today. We sti l l

wrestle with the old question --- To be or not to be? This year, IKARUS wil l ask the same question but in a very IKARUS way. The Hamlet of IKARUS wil l be a marriage of the old and the new. It wil l be bare. We wil l keep its poetry but strip the play of al l the unnecessary and supplant it with dance and f i lm. We wil l use a ramp stage simillar to how they did it in the Elizabethan era but we wil l use deconstructed costuming and stage design. This Hamlet wil l be old and new, accessible in its modernity but at the same time retaining that vague beauty that age brings to all things. Come join us and ask that question thrown to the universe so long ago.

ANG PRINSIPITO: YUGYUGAN SA SALIW NG KAL AWAKANAdapted from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince

Language: Fil ipinoRunning Time: 1 Hour 20 Minutes (with two 10 minute intermissions)Notes: A musical for the whole family

SYNOPSIS:From the well-loved children’s book, The Little Prince wil l come alive in full f lare as a musical offering for both children and children at heart. Relive the adventures of the strange boy from outer space and the old pilot who wil l be reminded once more of the wonders of childhood. Hinding-hindi mamamatay ang Prinsipito!

10 QUESTIONSby Paolo Apagalang

SYNOPSIS:The year is 2010. The place, Manila, the

Phil ippines. Enter Ben: a quiet, reserved, conservative guy. And Claire: a quirky, fun loving free spirit. They would’ve been perfect for each other. But they can’t exactly be romantic because their best friends have just split up. Or can they?

The two start chatting one night. They start playing 10 questions. What happens now? In a tale of friendship, loyalty, romance, happiness, awkwardness and everything in between, how does one answer the question of: “what is love?”

ONE RAINY EVENING IN APRILWritten by Enrique EastagleDirection by Paolo Apagalang

SYNOPSIS:Peek into the l ives of Frances and Joseph, two twentysomethings stuck in the most unusual predicament of being former lovers, yet sti l l l iving in the same apartment. One struggles to move on with someone new while the other hangs on the continuously diminishing hope of them getting back together.

It’s a post-breakup story unlike any other. How wil l they set themselves free from this ultimately peculiar situation that is full of awkward si lences interspersed with weighted words and deceptively insignif icant gestures?

MY FRIEND HAS COMEWritten by Suzue ToshiroDirection by Dr. Ricardo Abad PhD

Ricardo Abad and Suzue Toshiro reunite after Tanghalang Ateneo’s successful staging of “Firefl ies” in 2012 with another bittersweet play about the solace of friendship ties. MY FRIEND HAS COME (Tomodachi ga kita) is one of Suzue’s early plays, f irst staged in Japan in 1994, awarded the OMS Drama Prize in Japan soon after, and f irst shown as a staged reading in the United States in 2009. A Phil ippine premiere is scheduled by IKARUS in November 2014. In this play, two l ives search for a human bond in a society broken

down by postindustrial growth, impersonal exchanges, and the eclipse of community ties. English translation by James Yaegeshi.

SYNOPSIS:A hot summer day somewhere

in nowhere Japan. A friend waits. A high school friend comes. They joke around, tell stories, and spar with imaginary Kendo swords. A friend leaves. “I don’t want you to forget me,” he says before going. This simple story of two friends humorously and poignantly reminds us of the sweetness and pain of connecting with another human being.
