Website Training Guide How To: Create a Blog Entry & Embed Music/Video

Section A: How To Create A Blog Entry * As a volunteer, DJ, sports editor, fan, or artist, you are responsible for creating blog entries on the Radio Western website.
1. Go to: http://chrwradio.ca, then at the top right of the page, click on the login icon and login to your CHRW account. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN ACCOUNT, GO TO https://chrwradio.ca/user/register
2. Click the “ADD CONTENT” button on the top menu and “BLOG ENTRY”
3. TITLE should be to the point and highlight the focus of the story - not “clickbait,”

but readers are going to decide whether to read your story based off few seconds, and few words.
4. Select a “TOPIC,” if you are writing a post for you show, choose “SHOW BLOG,” and then add your showcode under “ATTACH TO SHOW.” There is a link to the showcodes under the drop menu.
5. Click “EDIT SUMMARY” and add a couple sentences about your article. This will
show up when people look at the blog feed 6. Click “HIDE SUMMARY” to add the BODY of your story. 7. TEXT FORMAT - select “CHRW EDITOR” if it is not already selected 8. MEDIA: 9. Image - An image is mandatory, so upload something relevant. This will appear
as the banner image, not within the blog entry. a. MAX file size = 5mb/pic (this is large) b. Size must be 1280 x 700. Use .jpg or .png file formats for the image.
When saving your image in photoshop, make sure you are saving a lower quality (72dpi)
c. Don’t have Photoshop? Crop/Edit your photo at www.picmonkey.com Audio - add audio file if you have one, most news & sports posts should have audio. The player will appear below the banner image. If audio uploading is unavailable, connect with [email protected] or [email protected] about uploading to the Radio Western soundcloud and embedding the audio in your post.

10.Click “Save” on the bottom of the page. a. Your blog entry will not be immediately published until a Radio Western
manager has approved of the blog entry. Let them know when you have done this.
11. If you are not ready to publish your blog entry, or want to finish it on another time, just click “Save”,
12.To preview your blog entry, click on “Preview” 13. IF YOU ARE A SHOW HOST/VOLUNTEER: send the Marketing Director an
email at [email protected] if you are ready to publish your blog entry 14. IF YOU ARE PART OF NEWS/SPOKEN WORD: send the News Coordinator or
Spoken Word Coordinator an email at [email protected] or if you are ready to publish your blog entry.
15.You’re ALMOST finished. Once a blog entry has been completed, make sure it is promoted on both Twitter and Facebook with the relevant hashtags and links, especially if your story is about a particular popular event. Popular ones are #ldnont, #westernu, etc. Using hashtags will allow your story to reach a wider readership.
Section B: How To Embed Video/Music In Your Blog Entry
1. Go to: http://chrwradio.ca, click on the login icon at the top right of the page and login to your CHRW account.
2. typing out your blog entry, go to your desired online video or audio that you want to share and copy the embed code
a. Learn how to obtain the embed code from SoundCloud, Vimeo and YouTube in Section F
3. Go back to your blog entry and click on the “Source” button located on the toolbar located on the top of the “Body” section.
4. Paste the embed code where you wish the media to appear in your post. 5. Click “Source” again and you will be brought back to the body of the blog entry; a
blank box with the red label “iFrame”, will appear on the bottom of your blog entry 6. To preview your blog entry with the video, click on the “Preview” button; refresh
the new page that you are brought to and you will be able to see your video or audio content that you embedded
7. If you desire to move the video elsewhere within your blog entry, simply highlight

and copy the blank “iFrame” box, and paste it at the desired location
Section C: How To Obtain The Embed Code From Video or Audio based websites Soundcloud
1. Go to your desired SoundCloud playlist/song in a new tab/window on your Internet browser
2. Click the “Share” button and a small pop-up will appear with options to share your audio/playlist
3. Double click the text within the text box under “Widget Code” to select all the text and copy it
4. Follow 3-7 in Section B to use this embed code within your blog entry 5. Make sure the embed is placed FIRST before your story - make sure we are
promoting audio as much as possible
Vimeo 1. Go to your desired Vimeo video in a new tab/window on your Internet browser 2. Hover your mouse over the video, and you will see 3 buttons on the top right
hand corner of the video: “Like”, “Later”, “Share” 3. Click on “Share” and a pop-up window will appear 4. Under the “Embed” section, select all the text within the text box and copy it

YouTube 1. Go to your desired YouTube video in a new tab/window on your Internet browser 2. Click the “Share” button located beside the “Like” and “Dislike” button under the
video and share options will appear under the button 3. Click on the “Embed” tab and copy the text in the text box after choosing your
video embed options a. The maximum video size is 640x360
Bandcamp
1. www.bandcamp.com 2. Go to your desired album. 3. Click Share/Embed

4. Click Embed this Album 5. Select a layout 6. Make sure the code is in html form. 7. Pick the colours of your player 8. Unselect “Show Album Artwork” if there is any nudity or is offensive. 9. Copy the code when you have fulfilled these preferences
Mixcloud
1. www.mixcloud.com 2. Select your desired playlist
a. You may have to select a song to see a screen like this:

3. Click embed 4. You can change the colour of the button and the colour highlighting the text by
clicking the rainbow circle and adjusting the cursors. 5. Click “Update Code” if you make any changes. 6. Copy and paste the code to your blog post (ensure that rich-text is disabled).
1. www.facebook.com 2. Find your desired post you would like to share on the chrwradio.ca wesbite. This
is a great option for photos and videos. 3. Click the small, grey, pale arrow beside the Name of the organization or person
that made the original post. Click “Embed Post,” or “See more options,” and then “embed post.”
4. Copy the url. 5. In your blog post, click the Div</> icon found on the menu bar above the body
summary. 6. Click “source.” Paste the facebook url in the middle of the code. 7. Unclick “source.” Save!
Section D: How To Create A Link To Another Website Or Email Address In Your Blog Entry
1. Follow steps 1-5 in Section A 2. After completing your blog entry, highlight the specific text, or web link, that you

want to link to 3. Click on the “Link” button located on the toolbar located on the top of the “Body”
section and a pop-up window will appear
4. Choose the type of link you want to create under “Type” 5. Enter the email address or URL to the desired website you want to link to, then
click “OK”
